Neither do I: I suspended you on the 6th of July for racist remarks. Usually, I leave users suspended for 2 weeks, so you shouldn't be here until the 20th of July. But, because you were smart enough to use an alt account, you're getting one extra suspended week

Not that I am particularly bothered by this, but I'm not sure star-traveler used racist remarks did he?

Put it this way, slandering on people simply because of their Spanish heritage is the kind of priceless, patent stupidity when the local mod is from Spanish heritage, that you just can't really buy anywhere...

Yep I remember now (thought he had said something in this thread - then I noticed he only has one "L" in his name now and only 9 posts!)

Yeah I suppose, probably more chance of it being Portuguese.
fairly diverse ethnic history in the place, could come from anywhere.

Yeah, I'm mainly Italo-Portuguese but, because miscegenation is common pretty much everywhere and linking States to ethnic groups is also a quite recent thing, it wouldn't surprise me to find out I've got some lost ancestor from a region that now belongs to Spain.

In any case, I would've suspended him for being racist against any particular ethnic group

I think author of this thread has a distinct point. It's easily can be seen that Britian has applied double standards on this case.

Hey Smiley, smile at this - UK is slowly becoming a refugee/asylum point for some of the world's biggest criminals, murderers and money launderers (I FINALLY found my article I was looking for, JUST came out). EAT THIS:

Berezovsky wanted in Brazil for alleged money laundering

Tom Phillips in Rio de Janeiro and Saeed Shah
Saturday July 14, 2007

The tussle between Britain and Russia over the London-based billionaire tycoon Boris Berezovsky took a new twist yesterday when the Brazilian authorities issued a warrant for his arrest.
Brazilian officials vowed to seek the extradition of Mr Berezovsky from the UK to face charges of money laundering. He is already wanted in Russia, accused of embezzlement.

The Brazilian move comes after the authorities there released the findings of a two-year investigation into a suspected money laundering racket involving the Brazilian football club Corinthians, which was effectively bought by a company linked to Mr Berezovsky in 2004. Brazilian prosecutors argue that Media Sports Investments (MSI), the subsidiary of an offshore company that formed a "partnership" with Corinthians in November 2004, is funded with the profits from organised crime in Russia.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In Brazil on Thursday, Judge Fausto Martin de Sanctis ordered the arrest of Mr Berezovsky and two other men, including the Iranian businessman Kia Joorabchian, who controls MSI in Brazil, which is accused of laundering Mr Berezovsky's money through the Corinthians team. Since none of the men was in Brazil, arrest warrants were forwarded to Interpol. The lawyer behind the federal investigation, Rodrigo de Grandis, told the Guardian that if the men tried to enter Brazil they would be arrested immediately. Officials from Brazil's public prosecutor admitted yesterday, however, they were not hopeful that Mr Berezovsky could be extradited.
Mr Berezovsky said the Brazilian court order was "an extension of the Kremlin's politicised campaign against me". The tycoon fell out with Russian leader Vladimir Putin and left the country in 2000. He has since been charged with embezzling millions of dollars from Russia's flagship airline, Aeroflot. This week, a trial in Russia started in the Aeroflot case, in Mr Berezovsky's absence.

The tycoon also faces potential prosecution in Russia over alleged calls for the government's overthrow, stemming from an interview he gave earlier this year to the Guardian. Britain, which granted him asylum in 2003, has repeatedly refused Russian requests for extradition.

Last year, Mr Berezovsky was detained and interrogated at Sao Paulo's international airport as he tried to embark for London. He was released without charge.

The thing is, your definition of "criminal" is anyone who opposes what Russia is doing to the Chechnyans, which it could be argued, is a whole lot worse than what the Palestinians have to put up with...

When a person seeking asylum has a history of money laundering, embezzlement (from several countries), and connections to organized crime ... well, thats a definition of a "criminal", isn't it? A criminal is a criminal, make no mistake about it.

But his worst crime as far as you're concerned is that he opposes Russian actions in Chechnya. That's why Berezovsky had to claim assylum in the UK and that's why you specifically mentioned him and not every single other Russian billionaire who now live in the capital of the world who made their money through criminal activities...

Are you on crack, seriously??? When did I connect Berezovsky to Chechnya? No! He is a criminal in terms of what he did in Russia, just like what happened to Yukos and like what should happen to all corrupt and dirty criminals in Russia, millions of them. Berezovsky, when he figured out that he is now watched by the Russian police, he fled the country and started the whol politicizing campaign to clear his name and make Russia look bad. He is a traitor for that, a criminal ... and for calling for the overthrowal of Russia, that just tops it all. I havent said anything about Chechnya, and Berezovky has all kinds of theories blaming Russia for all the world's problems.

Yeah, UK doesnt want to be part of EU. UK wants to keep their precious pride and British pound. They dont want to be second. They want to be in charge. They want to have a big voice and some control in EU, and will never ever let anyone tell them what to do.

Whats so stupid about wanting that? The EU to me is a trade agreement and a trade agreement it shall remain. Why should the UK sit and be told what we can and cannot do by some bureaucrat in Brussels?

It's quite funny a Russian is lecturing the British how to run their country. Take a look at your own first and the issues you have with racism and the standard of living the population lives under.

I work for a Cosmetic corperation and in my area operation I have to work with Russia (I know I got the shit deal) Let me tell you something about how fucked up your country of origin is. I have to supply alcohol content percentages to the department of trade and industry, the chamber of commerece, get test results from R & D departments all of which are passed to customs before they decide to even market the product in Russia, why because Russians are so cheap they drink perfume and aftershave to get drunk. It's not one or two wino's I think you'll find it's a lot of people.

Another thing I notice you live Canada and your mate lives in Netherlands why don't you both live in Russia?

Actually the EEC is the trade agreement and the EU is a political agreement that incorporated the EEC. So it ceased being just a trade agreement over 15 years ago!

The reason we have the Union is because in a globalised world, what happens in another country can have a major effect on your country. Without the EU we would have no control over such problems (like the environment or cross-border crime). However, in the EU we can identify such problems and force other countries to comply, instead of asking them nicely only for them to tell us to go fuck ourselves (as Russia has done in the Litvinenko case). The Commission for example, is currently surveying the EU governments to pool ideas on how to tackle Islamic extremism which will then form an EU-wide strategy to deal with the problem. This means the UK, as a member of the EU and arguably the no.1 target for Islamic extremists to have a say in how other countries deal with Islamist militants and as there are cells in other European countries that may target the UK this is of vital importance.

You also fall into the trap set by the Eurosceptics and their allies in the media when you refer to "Brussels bureaucrats". Are you referring to the elected Parliament, or the elected governments of the Council that vote on new EU laws? Or the Commissioners who are appointed by the elected governments of each EU member?

I also find it slightly bemusing that anyone from Ireland (or seemingly Irish connections?) could have anything but positive views on the EU considering the economic miracle that has happened to the country over the last few years!

I can talk shit about your country too, if you want to make it even. I just said the truth. And you can't handle it. And no, me and my friends dont drink your British shit, so dont worry, you're not making any friends either. Some Russians would drink anything, but that doesnt speak for the whole country, so you should shut your mouth or at least have the facts before saying stupid crap like this. Any Russian will tell you that that most of them drink Russian or American alcohol. British alcohol products - fuck, I never knew there was such a thing, they must be that bad.

And I live here in Canada, oh well, I came at a very young age where I couldn't have a say in it. Plus I love Canada AND Russia. So I know you dont speak for all British people out there who are brainwashed by their sensationalist media, so I'll just pretend that you're just an idiot and give you a break.

Ever heard of >Whisky<? Russia in 2004 bought 30 million ($60 US) worth of it.

The small distillery from my home town (8000 people) which is one of the very least well known gets 60,000 search hits on Goggle.

Russia is an impressive place, but it also has alot of problems. I really don't think the average person would prefer to live there rather than in the UK though....

Yeah, yeah ... I heard of it, and its good judging by what my Canadian friends say (though Canadians are very proud about their liquor). I am not a drinker though, because too many Russians drink themselves to death every year, too much alcohol. Take no offense in my reply to Callaghan, it was only meant for him, thats why I added that last paragraph ... Russia's is in tough shape, but they're working hard lately making it a better place to live, believe me. Its a lot of work, a lot more to do ...
