well, its always a trade off. but if we're talking shooters, and you already have ram, then a vid card is the best thing to get

you can never have enough ram

...unless you already have 4 gigs. i only have 2, though.

and $50 more will still buy you a console that'll be up-to-date for a good number of years (360).

i hope youre running vista if you want that 4 gig?

sure, you could buy a 360. or you could just improve the best gaming platform that ever was

no...but I could.

and I mentioned the 360, 'cuz you never have to upgrade it, 'til the next generation comes out, which won't be for 5 years or so. There's no way that any video card is still going to be sufficient in 5 years.

yeah, but 4 gig is useless in XP. it can only utilise 2 apparently.

well, maybe not the video card but anything else does. my last PC did 5 years of hard labour. the only thing i changed was the vid card, and only once.

well, there's no hard cap on ram in xp. the only problem is that the OS usually can't handle running all the apps that 4Gb of RAM can support. It can go over 2...not too much info on it, though, 'cuz most people don't even bother trying, so it's hard to get a real consensus. as to just how far it can go past that.

you'll be lucky to get vista to use 3.8G.
2 gigs seems to be the hotspot right now.

a good videocard is the key component in a game rig.

and a physX card

haw haw haw

I don't use it for games, though

do you mean the ultras? i wouldnt waste my money if i were you.

Posted by Magnus on Aug-03-2007 16:28:

Well see how it actually runs. I've got a 3.4Ghz Dual Core with a 7600GT so I'm hoping I can enjoy the game to some degree. I hate having to turn things down.

Why on earth would you shell out 900 for that when with some balanced spending you can go ahead and get a 8800GTS 640MB, water cool your PC and your VGA cpu with a waterblock connected to the main cooling unit and OC the card to GTX quality and save some money.

Even if you don't want to OC, the BFG OC cards aren't even that much overclocked to be worth the extra dollars. Nothing someone can't do on their own with a bit of time and a 2mb program.

Or even on the ultras, I suggest you listen to pkcRAISTLIN. Would really rather get the 650 GTS and OC it and watercool the CPU on the card.

Fuck - I was going to say this makes me wish I was a PC gamer and had a system that would run it, but by God, I've got a system that will apparently run it well!

And I got it for free.
