mmm have you tried the very vanilla?

I drink the reg vanilla one.
Dying to try chocolate soy.

I find that drinking milk with cultures is really bad for me...I drank it once and I got the worst stomach ache of life (I wanted to die)

I know I was never lactose intolerant but for me milk is just a lot less good than soy.

And even if you don't make it, to be honest, if you're a smart shopper and pay attention to your local markets, you can buy all organic and not spend much more money at all (unless you're buying a lot of meat).

Seriously, people really have this misconception that it's always more expensive to buy organic. It isn't. You just have to change the way you shop.

aye. I buy my meat for roasting, sausages, bacon etc from a local butcher on the market. It's cheaper, WAY tastier. Supermarkets produce mass produced tasteless stuff, which isn't good.

Posted by Slylee on Jul-16-2007 20:10:

ok but then i'll probably end up spending the money on gas that i would save by driving to other stores. lol

+1

i feel like ive been saving money ever since i made the change (i also did pick up lacto-ovo-vegetarianism though)

The chocoloate soy is actually very good. Would definetly recommend it

I used to buy a lot of cheap soy milk from supermarket's here a few years when I had money and sense. Soy milk in tea is fucking fantastic.

ah yeah and soy milk in tea is a good additive.

chocolate soy is my favorite of all the flavors
-add in some honey i pick up from the middle eastern market and we have a win

i dont know if u guys ever tried a tolberone(sp?) but thats what it reminds me of!

Posted by FallingMoon on Jul-16-2007 20:12:

never buy meat from just ANY supermarket

you really should be choosey about that.
There is a place down here called Penn Dutch that is great for that. Publix I've found to be pretty good as well.

Never buy meat from Wal-Mart Supercenters

I think i may go down memory lane and grab a couple of litres of soy now to add to my mundane semi-skimmed milk

That's a good point actually. Toblerone's DO have that taste, and here's me thinking the Swiss were only good for Cuckoo Clocks.

Oh yeah Medina, you should get the massive fucking Tobelrone's you get at airports The ones you can barely fit in your carry on's.

organic food isn't any different than "normal" food. it's just grown/raised differently. an apple is still an apple and a chicken is still a chicken... the only difference is that the apple was grown without pesticides or artificial fertilizers, and the chicken wasn't pumped full of hormones and antibiotics.

i don't pay a ton of attention to whether stuff is "organic" or "all natural" or whatever other trendy names the food companies are slapping on foods in order to be Earth-concious. i eat fairly healthy and i usually try to buy stuff that i know is going to be good for me. fruits and veggies and good meats are always going to be more expensive than junk/boxed/processed food, regardless of whether they're organic or not... so it's worth it to me to shell out the money so i can eat better and feel healthier.

also, this might be kind of strange, but it makes me feel really warm and happy inside to know that the animals i'm eating came from a happy place, so i almost always try to buy meat that says "organic" or "cage-free" or "steroid-free" etc... sometimes i try to imagine what their lives were like before they got turned into food, and i really hope that they had time to graze and hang out in the sunshine with their buddies before they got turned into a tasty sammich which i will devour with great pleasure.

Fuck yeah, my old Chinese flatmate used to drink it like it was going out of fashion and he wanted me to try a bit. I mean, this dude had a fucking wardrobe full of this shit, stocked up.

Ahh, i miss my student days.

Nope, just more conscientious of our impact on the planet and the way the animals we eat are treated.

Fact.
i really dont care much about organic chikens and free range eggs and what not

i DO care about drinking some state grown delish fresh organic juice. im all about good juice!

Posted by Slylee on Jul-16-2007 20:28:

myra that's what the CEO of Whole Foods said on an episode of 60 Minutes.

he was talking about how there are people who will argue that the quality of life in the food we eat is irrelevant because we end up killing them and eating them in the end anyway. his response was something to the effect of, "well we're all going to die some day too, does the quality of our life not matter"

made lots of sense actually and i feel the same way you do. i just haven't made the time to shop around for places for cheap organic food.

kind of a side note... one time i drove 2 and a half hours to get to some watermelon fruit stand that one of my sound engineering teachers told me about to try "the best juice on the planet" it was basically watermelon water... not worth it.

Defintely a good point although I think the best part of the "free range" chicken is that there aren't a shitload of them packed together next to each where disease can spread easily and therefore they don't need to be injected with tons of antibiotics to keep them from getting sick. I'd rather take antibiotics when I get sick and need them, not when I'm eating a chicken sandwich.
