Lyss: Yeah the train sucks BALLS, not to mention to go up to toronto you have to go clear up to albany, THEN go west towards b-lo (it doesnt cut up sideways).

Just from MY house upstate it take 7 hours or so.

and THEN get the WHOLE train checked at customs, where they question eveyrone on the entire train, and they check random bags.

example: the bus HOME from bal took 6-7 hours, and the train UP took 12 hours. and montreal is way closer than t.o., so expect a train ride to be 15 plus hours.

wow that SOOOOO sucks. ill def take your word for it.

Posted by chimera66 on Jul-19-2007 15:50:

don't i repeat DON'T take the train unless you like being stuck at the border. going to montreal was a bitch and i'm so happy i flew on the way back. at first i thought it was because the train was full of people with a vast assortment of passports but overall i think it's because the train is a pain in the ass.

fly!!!

ehhe so i guess everyone's gonna be flying to both LOL and Bal en Blanc this time around. Def a LOT quicker. About 2 hrs i presume???

the border just sucks in general, for some reason every time I used to cross into Canada from Buffalo we would end up with the guards who would give us a really hard time (that was back at college and i was not even IN the scene yet!). assh*les. maybe once or twice there would be the really cool ones that were really friendly.

lol I could have ran faster to montreal

lyss: the flight to toronto is an hour and 15 minutes, and montreal is like an hour. Buses to montreal are not bad at all, only a little slower than driving.

Edit: I have crossed the border literally hundereds of times to go to toronto, and have maybe 5 times had an easy time. Montreal border has been great. total opposite experiences.

be careful with flight times too because after bal en blanc my flight out of montreal was at like 2:30 keep in mind the event ended at noon. i felt nuts because i raced from preach's set to the hotel to the airport to a 2.5hr class with 7 people...it was awful.

Posted by phoenixBEBE on Jul-19-2007 17:32:

^^ cool, thx for the tips. and sorry that happened to you. hopefully the plans for LOL go a bit more smoothly.

btw: DO NOT take trains when travelling across borders!!!!!PLEASE PLEASE take this advice!!!!!!!!! Worst/longest experience EVER, ask wai!!!!

This will be my first time flying to TO. The past two years, I flew to Rochester the night before and partied it up at my old school...then drive the following day. I DO NOT plan on taking the train to Canada...especially from DC!!! That would take too long. Shit..even a train ride from Rochester to NYC(6 hours) or even from DC to NYC (3 1/2 hrs)is long enough.

haha even *I* can say that this is completely untrue. As much as I enjoy myself, I think you need to get out more Go to Bal en Blanc and THEN tell me what party of the year is!!

Lyss: like I said in the beginning, I took a 6pm flight and it was PERFECT if you have friends around.....I got to after party for a while (not feel like I was leaving RIGHT after the party is a BIG plus), plsu I got to crash for a minute and not feel ridiulous and crackheadish at the airport.

For thos flying, keep in mind that the airport is far from downtown, and it costs me about a $45 cab ride (similiar to flying to jfk). I dont have any idea to be honest, if there is a bus because before I moved to nyc I just took the ferry from home and never bothered with flying.

Check out the Novotel. It's only a few blocks from Guv and you can walk there. Plus there are some awesome bars right across the street....one year we had the TA meet up there and Ferry actually came and hung out with us.

bored @ work so im surfing

hm just searching flight/hotels for fun since i dont have much to do at work today for

August 31 (FRI) - September 3 (MON)

I looked up the hotel we stayed at last year

$557 a person including airfare (MARRIOTT BLOOR YORKVILE)

others:

$492 including airfare Courtyard Downtown (usually the one I stay at)

$483 including airfare Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel (which is odd cuz this hotel is 4 stars while the above is 3 stars)

Most 2 star packages are $350 pp - $400 pp (which isnt BAD at all!!!)

of course there are plenty of other sites to choose from. I'm just looking at priceline right now (im assuming all these prices are estimates depending on flight schedules). for some reason I cant find the downtown Novotel with an avaiable air package. but priceline prices the hotel at $157 a night, while hotels.com prices it at $147/night. but im sure if you call the hotel directly u might even get yet a BETTER price, who knows, things do happen.

priceline has air starting at $291 roundtrip per person NYC <--> Toronto

im sure hotwire.com, expedia, travelocity and others may have competitive if not better pricing.

The Sheraton is great hotel and not too far from the GUV, same with the Courtyard. The Marriott is the furthest from the GUV. I dunno if distance is important to you.

I love the courtyard

Courtyard IS awesome. I've never had a bad experience there EVER, whether in the Bloor Yorkville one (last year) or the Downtown one on Yonge Street (my total FAV, which was introduced to me by my friends who took me on my very first GUV trip back in 2003 prices are damn reasonable and the service is impeccable. )

i have never minded sharing a taxi to go to/from the GUV, ever. It ends up the same price as parking in the lot across the street. I just dont recall how difficult it is to catch a cab once you decide to leave the GUV once the party ends. Sometimes I just ended up walking BACK to the hotel (despite looking somewhat disheveled cuz of staying up all night lol i actualy welcome the fresh air and a chance to wake myself up haha)

I usualy choose a hotel in the heart of downtown cuz i LOVE LOVE LOVE being near Eaton Centre and seeing city life. i so adore the streets of Toronto. <3

Posted by gimmebeatz on Jul-20-2007 15:18:

couple hotels in the downtown TO area by the Guv are the westin (right across the street) but somewhat pricey, delta chelsea, and the days inn (about a 5-7 min cab ride and very reasonable room rates)

Posted by gimmebeatz on Jul-20-2007 15:19:

this is really the only plus of the year to live in buffalo....only an hour and 15 min drive up to the Guv...cant wait for more of the lineup to be released

Posted by pyro264jb on Jul-20-2007 15:58:

I might take a flight to detroit then just car it up from there

Posted by pyro264jb on Jul-20-2007 17:19:

What is the date of the party?
