well that sucks. good to know though! i would have given the mugger a phony pin anyway just so he'd risk the chance of appearing on someone's cameras.

lived on hollywood & la brea from 2002-2005 and nothing like this ever happened. even walked all the way from avalon alone @ 4am in the morning.

good thing im broke and can run faaaaaaaaaaaaaaast. LOL. j/k.

Posted by SVGmethod on Jul-24-2007 06:19:

im actually quite paranoid about getting jacked when I come to LA. I always park in the lot by the club. Its way safer, and I am usually with other people. Normally I only bring my credit card and ID with me and leave my wallet in the car. My phone and camera however I am pretty paranoid about getting stolen. Ugh this makes me sick to my stomach. Everybody be careful when you go out.

Posted by Xtracktor on Jul-24-2007 06:26:

Wow great that you are alright!

damn...

Just one more reason why I avoid Hollywood clubs!

Posted by JCIZZLE! on Jul-24-2007 06:31:

Hope you are ok dude! You feel totally helpless in a situation like that . I had that happen to me in public at a gas station and the people who witnessed it just got in their cars and bailed. I worry for our promoters everyday of the week, its dangerous out there and you just never know when this will happen to you.

All the cops are at west sunset trying to catch drunk drivers while checking up babes.

Thieves cost money to state, traffic violations bring money.

here's how i would deal with the situation in the future... muggers are opportunists. if you give them the opportunity to approach you safely and predictably, they will strike because they are comfortably in control of the situation. if you think about it from their perspective, even though they have the gun and are premeditating an attack on you, they are still nervous about carrying it out and getting away clean. in the back of their mind they don't know if you're armed, a cop or willing to fight back and that uncertainty right before they contact you is the only advantage you have. so if you're heading back to your car after the club and you see some shady character in your path, do something uncommon, unpredictable, even irrational. like run to your car with a cell phone to your ear talking to someone or pretending to as if you're busy, distracted, in a rush and didn't even notice him. say something audibly that suggests others are meeting up with you like 'yeah i'm almost there, who all is with you?'. you can even yell into your phone like you're pissed off and unwilling to take shit from anyone. people like this don't make very good targets. the mugger will analyze this type of person and many will probably not be comfortable enough to engage him or her. the whole mugging is based upon having the opportunity to get close enough to ask you for your money in a discreet manner where you the victim are short on options. they sound like they are professionals and not strung out methheads desperate enough to try and stop a running person on the phone by flashing a gun out in the open and yelling threats. if you see someone down the street approaching you, try crossing the street while you're at a distance still. if he follows, turn around and run back the other way before he can even begin to threaten you. flag a cab down and pay him a dollar to take you back to your car. don't let the potential mugger get the upperhand by allowing him to issue the threat. if you're being targetted and you slip out of the mugger's range before he's even revealed his intentions, i highly doubt he's gonna just start firing off a gun. these are just some techniques i use when walking down sketchy streets and allies in sf as i run into all kinds of seedy characters not in their right mind. most of them are harmless and just want money, cigarettes, food or weed from me, so i've been able to play with ways of approaching and passing them in ways where they don't even bother asking.

I don't know why some of you choose to live in Hollywood, it's a flat out DISGUSTING city! I understand that some of you have work in that hellish town but why have the desire to live in Hollywood? Live in a town that's 10-20 minutes away that isn't so dirty, crime-strickened and fake.

Good advice lex400sc.

I have been in a sticky situation by Avalon in the past too. Lucky there were other people around and we got out ok.

This type of thing can happen anywhere though. I was grabbed from behind at a bar here in San Diego in a alley a long time ago. The guy had a knife at my throat. I was pretty buzzed kissing my girlfriend at the time with my jacket over our heads. I though somebody was joking with me but it was no joke. He took whatever cash I had and thats it. The same fuck eventually raped a girl at knifepoint that night. Sick but true.

Stay in populated areas when possible and be aware.

Oh PLEASE! People get mugged in every part of the world. Don't kid yourself by saying it doesn't happen in Canada or anywhere outside of LA

I had more shit happen to me in Huntington Beach than I've ever had happen to me in LA. If it's gonna happen it's gonna happen, he could have replaced Vanguard with Tentation and you all probably would have said the same thing

Amen to that. The measly $10 you might save not parking with the facility... obviously isn't worth it in the long run.

As some of you might remember, my car got jacked into about a year and half ago because we didn't want to pay for valet. talk about 20/20 hindsight.

sweet irony, the same shit happened to me LAST NIGHT.

walking back from blockbuster in the neighborhood north of sunset and fairfax and was on my phone. a car rolled by going the opposite way, and they were all looking at me, and i kinda looked at them like, "do i know you?"

15 steps later i hear a rustle behind me and this dude is running up behind me. i'm so naive, i'm thinking "is this one of my friends fucking with me"? He gets about 5 feet away when i realize this muther****** is holding a gun out at me. he starts to say something right as i realize its a gun and i WIG THE FUCK OUT. i start yelling and just book it the other way. don't know if he chased me or not because i was cruising like speedy fucking gonzalez. i never thought i could run that fast in flip flops.

good ol' PD didn't get to me for 20 minutes. when they got there, they told me there was a shooting a couple blocks away. then, their radio said another attempted mugging (same description as mine) a couple blocks away. unbelieveable.

Posted by bas on Jul-25-2007 02:21:

Holy shit that's scary! Did you run around in a bee line? That's what I would do

Posted by Electrophile on Jul-25-2007 02:28:

A friend of mine was staying at Pala Casino down in San Diego with four of his friends and two girls in a very nice suite when they heard a knock at the door at about 3 am. It was a pretty girl asking for help. My friend opened the door and was immediately blind sided by a skin head. They were a couple of meth-heads looking for an easy score so they assumed the suite would be occupied by a 40 something couple that wouldn't put up a fight. The skin-head picked the wrong guys to fuck with. He was met by five guys and then wished he was never born. They broke both of his arms, kicked out all of his teeth, broke his ribs, broke his jaw, and broke his nose while the girl was worked over by the girls also staying in the suite. Luckily when the police arrived they recognized the racist scum and didn't say a word about the beating. It turns out that this couple was wanted by the authorities for robbing and beating many hotel patrons using the same method.

You don't have to be in Hollywood to get mugged. You don't have to be on the street to get mugged or even a shady hotel for that matter. Crime happens EVERYWHERE. Anyone that believes they are ever completely safe is living in a fantasy world. I keep a Mossberg 590 loaded with Red Hull "00" next to my bed and I keep my Smith and Wesson M&P in the nightstand when I stay at any hotel (it is a temporary residence so it is legal). When I am home alone I keep my M&P loaded and holstered. I refuse to be a victim.

Keep your eyes open and avoid situations you know are bad. No amount of money is worth your life or the life of a loved one but that does not mean that you should be a helpless victim either. Anyone man that enters my residence with the intent to harm me or a loved one has found death.

I'm sure it happens all over the world, but not as much in Canada. I have a lot of friends out there, and I've never heard of even one incident of anyone getting mugged.

holy shit! I was at that blockbuster that same nite (tuesday?) Is it the one by the KFC? I live walking distance too but my lazy ass chooses to drive. ANYHOW, thats a nice neiborhood, near the laugh factory and HYDE, so shit can happen ANYWHERE!

Great suggestions in the thread...sorry this happened to you bro. It will make us all more alert in the future. My buddy took your experience and suggestions of others and posted it as a bulletin on myspace.

ill second that about canada...being from buffalo i party at the guvernment all the time and have never heard of this happening there or at any other club...even comfort zone for christ sake...im always on guard leaving clubs late at nite but its definitely more comfortable leavin the guv than anywhere else from what ive experienced...plus theres always a ton of people leavin the guv at any time of the nite as well so ur never walking out alone either...

I agree with those of you that say crime can happen anywhere, but LA/Hollywood at least *seems* to get more crime than a lot of other places. Just look at the examples given.

Imo, places that look nicer and look cleaner are *usually* safer.

In an age where there are survailence cameras everywhere and our privacy is being constantly invaded by government and they can never catch these mother ******s...pisses me off...I would not suspect if these asshole muggers are PD themselves

It's all statistics. LA has a HUGE population, in some cases bigger than most other states as a whole...there's bound to be more crime because the population here is so high.
