This makes me wonder why I came to this city.
I want to live in a progressive city, not degressive.
Politicians must not travel much, because entertainment truly is an essential part of showing you are, as stated, a "World Class City".

the proceeds will be used save toronto's night life
why would the city council want to get rid of the nightlife and the entertainment district when it brings in alot of revenue? toronto is going backwards with david miller and ontario too with that asshole dalton mcguinty.

Well, is just not the clubs:

This seems to be a concentrated effort on the part of the police and city to turn this city into some boring mormon city.
Protest anyone?
The grannies must be pleased that the rowdy young people are getting spanked
Sometimes I wonder if Toronto deserves to have any fun at all
expect more of this type of stuff in almost every facet of our society (not just nightclubs) as the two largest population groups at the moment, Baby Boomers and Gen Y come closer to butting horns..

| Originally posted by StereoPrincess the most recent Toronto Life magazine has a special report on the problems in the entertainment district. the underlying theme was that the entertainment district is mistreated by the "visitors" from the 905 area since they don't have to live here for the week like the rest of us. they come here, in buses, from all around, get drunk and rowdy, fight, get thrown into the drunk tank, and then do it all over again the next weekend. |
didnt want to start a new thread so i'll just post it here.
for anyone interested, a couple of building along richmond are now sold and are going to be the site of a 19 storey condo which is just in front of scotiabank theatre and republik. while to the east i think its metro that will be its neighbour. some of the demolition has already begun.

Bye Bye Sugar Mountain, Hot House and Joker. 3 Elements that make that neighbourhood a little bit unique. Being replaced for yet another prefab looking condo with no character. I am really looking forward to the inevitable noise complaints from the whiners that move in.
Im glad i live in such a "progressive" city
Kind of explains the recent BS the police and government authorities having been placing on the entertainment venues a little more clearly now though... I wonder how much the city is making from this little project?
PS:
gone are the days when Toronto would have made a sound planning decision. For example, instead of a condo back in the 90s they built a huge movie theatre/restaurant complex across the street. You can bet that today if that lot had been vacant it would be a condo.
