I was not arguing for inaction but stating that the world's best had not acted, which makes it easy to see why many of us had not as well.

How is that for a rebuttal?

Well I still think that statement is a crock of shit. I don't agree with that for one second. It's a cop-out, imo. I would personally never accept that as an "excuse". It's just sooo...cowardly.

Nah, he said all of my posts are wrong. That's cool, maybe my values clash with his.

How is it not? I'm sorry, but any person who claims intelligent conscious thought better have a good reason for "doing nothing". Otherwise they're just shirking responsibility and accountability. Call it laziness or whatever other name if you prefer to sugar coat it, but I call it cowardice. Or else they're just not the "world's best".

I think you have taken what Shanny is trying to say and turned it into negativity. What he is saying is that people are doing something about it NOW and you are dwelling on their lack of action before, be it for whatever reason.

The reality of the situation is that we cannot be faulted for our inaction. If Barbara Walters, David Letterman and even the great late Peter Jennings could not see the error in their ways, how could we be expected to do anything different?

Why would they take action if they saw no reason to at the time?

Maybe you are right...

Now that we have determined that we need to ask ourselves "how do we make sure this never happens again?"

One possible answer could be asking "how can we know for sure who the "world's best" is/are?"
