Their vocalist has the coolest voice ever, I wish I had a voice like that. It's kind of girly but it soundslike a panty dropper.

Yes you still wanna date me, you told me I give you the best hawt seckz I don't think you want to lose that!

Never heard any of their other stuff besides "Runaway" and "Honestly".

Ian, I think you should check out:

A Perfect Circle
Cradle of Filth

for the last time, nirvana is the exact opposite of what he's looking for.

Posted by shaw on Jul-30-2007 03:16:

it's funny, 'cuz I doubt he'd even read that part of the thread, and genuinely thought that was a good suggestion.

For some odd reason, I'm reminded of the Pitchfork review for Lateralus

Partially unrelated side note: though I'm not a huge Red Hot Chili Peppers fan, check out Aeroplane for awesome bass guitar work.

I have no clue if this qualifies, but I have a friend who used to swear by Queens of the Stone Age. I tried to listen, but fuck me running I just could not listen to that stuff.

Someone tell me if QOTSA qualifies.

they're good, but totally power-chord or similar. they use subtle changes in the chord progression as opposed to an actual riff more often than not. it works but i'm just looking for more stuff

Posted by Zoso on Jul-30-2007 19:54:

Okay, I wasn't sure. I still can't listen to them. Maybe I'm just old and set in my ways. I'm pretty sure my friend got laid as a result, though, that sneaky bastard.

Did you listen to any of the bands suggested yet? what'd you think?

progression > riffs, imo. then again, I don't play guitar, so it's a different perspective.

Less Than Jake - they're ok and do a lot of good covers, but aren't amazing, and definitely not what i'm looking for here.
Nirvana - not a big fan, but it's not what I'm looking for at all here.

chord progression is essential everywhere but there has to be something else. While I have more than enough songs that are similar, there's a lot that I want from music that I'm unsure of who can put me in that direction. I'll find some good riffs tomorrow as I have a very early night tonight to do.

yes, there's progression, but there's a big difference between, to use previous examples, Nirvana & Opeth. I'm more interested in the composition than the performance, I guess.
