First person here for a long time who knows what is real electro (of course it has italo elements as well, but the beat and synths are pure electro).
Just bought Tresor's 20 Years of Metroplex collection and some Aux88.. electro at its best.

This is false.

1- Electro is not new. It is much older than trance Alongside Hip Hop, they were the first EDM genres to get a breakthrough. Electro was invented with the first drum machines in the 1970's by the likes of Kraftwerk and Afrikaa Bambata. It is a mix of electronic "artificial" sounds and breakbeat.

The 2000's has seen the explosion of the electro house, and more importantly, the very short lived electroclash movement with the likes of DJ Hell, Anthony Rother and Tiga. This "electro" sub-genre dropped the breakbeat and replaced it with a 4/4 percussion, thus keeping up with the fad in the EDM industry. It was good, very good, and it still is. However, the problem is that this new electro, which is not like the original electro, started stealing the term electro. So much, that real electro (breakbeat) got new names such as grime or electro-hip-hop.

2- Trance is dead. Everybody says it. And it is not because Tiesto still fills up arenas and stadiums that trance is alive. It is dead. But some intelligent producers (such as Ferry) saw it coming. They wanted to flee the sinking ship of trance. So they hoped on a bandwagon of cheap generic electro (remember, it is in fact not electro) to stay on the top. In the process, they contributed to the emergence of said cheap generic electro. Sad. very sad.

trance isnt dead, maybe u think it is.....


but millsions of trance fans dont think so. we got djs's old and new producing music, we got events like trance energy, singles being released all the time and albums and radio shows and what not...

trance isnt dead and it never will be, its just changing and ever progressing.....maybe u dont like that. but ur wrong to say its dead.

But the point is that it isn't changing or progressing. It sounds exactly the same as it did five years ago, with all the good parts left out.

Events and producers don't matter if the style isn't doing anything remotely interesting or inspired.

You're all looking in the wrong places. Both sides in the "trance is dead" debate are using the same things as evidence that trance is dead or not dead.

Just listen to Sound Field - Technological Terror (or the whole Sound Field album "Audio Surfin"), outstanding trance year 2007.

People who produce "Electro Trance" are complete morons.

They first of all do not know a thing about the equipment that made electro, and they have no interest in it, because it is impractical. Go over to the fucking producer forums, and its a bunch of yuppies trying to cut the costs to the maximum about production. Everything is why ______ when you can ______ its cheaper and faster! They don't love it, they don't see the point in using gear without midi, they don't see the point in using old broken synthesizers. They use loops, they use formulas, they use hard numbers when they eq its fucking nuts.

They second of all do not know what sound electro is...its not just about the machines of course...you can make electro without THE machines, but you must have knowledge and understanding of THE MACHINES and how they made electro what it is.

Electro trance is not very good trance at all. And not very good electro as well.

Exactly. I keep saying there is quality trance out there, its just a lot harder to find it. It's just a phase, I hope.
