I think architecture is more a symptom than a cause of the problem.

The cause of the problem is simple: money. When lots and lots of money is concentrated in a scene, you get a lot of hangers-on who don't give a damn about anything else. They promote what will draw more people and more dollars, which doesn't necessarily mean things of any artistic merit.

nothing beats san francisco's 1015 folsom's main room dj booth! right when i turned 21 i went there and fell in love with it. it also happens Armin van Buuren was playing that night which was his best set ever too! 6 hours and none of that 3 hour boring tunes then banging it out the last hour like his most recent visit or 2 hours of garbage in LA the time before that it was awesome to shake his hand then get my college id signed by him that night haha none of that high stage shit that only has a table or can't fully interact with the DJ.

for those extremely packed nights w/ crazy fans, theres a window that can be raised

just don't try to pretend to touch Mystre's (of Mars & Mystre) vinyl even if its for a photo

nothing beats this booth, except maybe the Daft Punk pyramid. although straight up ground level can be great as well like how when M.A.N.D.Y. played at another club in SF.
