I have the vinyl, so I've got to say that it does something for me. I agree that the synth lines are a little too hard, but this one should be a good track to slot in between epic trance songs in a set. I would like to hear it in live, but it's not one I would repeat again and again at home.

Can't remember I used the word goof...

at first i didn't like the tune either, but it grew on me a lot and now i think its decent and i could listen to it, but it'll never be the best tune in my box.
and imo ferry has done better work, but not in a long while

Southern Sun has great vocals, and is used really well in Solar Stone Mix, and Tiesto made a pretty good mix as well.

that's it. don't use hype to judge a song.

You are talking out your ass. You are trying to make a critizism out of something that doesn't exist. The record label told him to change the name to Ferry Corsten for the release, and even if it was his idea, why would it matter? Every other artist has released tracks under their name, it's no big deal.

As of a disgrace to Ferry, jesus, what do you want? After years of making some of the best trance around, people nail him for using the same formula over and over, then he makes a different track that's great, is played in clubs all over, gets alot of success, and people bitch about it, wanting the old Ferry back.

U PEOPLE MAKE ME SAD!!!

sorry about that...

Dude, I completely agree with you (on the Southern Sun statement, and the Punk one aswell). Corsten made a quality club tune. Period. He did something different. He created a song that is completely different from uplifting trance, one that shares a more similar formula to a break beat song than an uplifter (i think), and he did an amazing job. He didn't sellout, he just showed us that he can create music, not just a specific genre. I loved Punk from the beginning, he didn't ruin his name at all with this song. The use of the basslines, synths and beats is amazing in it...it really gets you movin.

I hope he makes more tunes like this...but I hope he doesn't make only tunes like this...he's proven that he can make killer uplifters and killer....whatever you wanna call Punk...and should keep up the work in both genre's...variety is always good

I like punk, it is simple yet effective. Cosmic Gate remix is fat as well. Dance Valley theme had a good hymn but was put together wrong if you ask me. Why bash on people in the United States, waht the fuck are we doing wrong. I love Texas. Most countries will fit in Texas, probably yours.

PUNK SUX !! Bad production done by Ferry .. Another example of bad production by famous DJ would be DJ Tiesto - Flight643

i disagree..i find both trax nice.. and cosmic remix of punk is one of the best..

Posted by ojste on Apr-20-2002 01:57:

i never used to like punk, but its totally grown on my after ive heard it in a couple of live sets...

Posted by DJ_ALFA on Apr-20-2002 02:14:

As a song to listen at home or in your car punk wouldn't be my first choice, but in a set it sounds very nice, and is very danceable to. I find the older work of Ferry released under the System F name a bit cheesy, Punk is totally new idea that Ferry came up with and u people should have respect for that

Posted by Mark on Apr-20-2002 06:06:

punk and flight 643 have a much bigger impact when heard inside a club with a MASSIVE sound system or a car with a very good stereo would do as well. listening to trance through headphones/earphones just don't compare.

Posted by davinox on Apr-20-2002 06:14:

wierd...never heard Punk in a club, but i've loved the song ever sense the first live rip. (dunno why...)

Yawn...debate over. sorry for the mild flame...hehehehehhehe...once again flaming Michael Russo, seriously Mike, I don't know it's you when i do that. (i guess we just have opposite views on things...hahahahahahahahahah)

alright

Why do you people always have to bring up how great your country are and how fantastic Texas is? What's wrong?

To be honest with you, I dont give a fuck about the US. All I have to to is to look at all these stupid US talkshows that we have on Swedish TV, those programs says all about you people.

Hahaha, I'm sure there's something we'll agree on someday

Punk isn't so bad, I guess its just because I don't like hard(er) trance that much.

Exactly! Even hearing Dance Valley Theme on a Phazon, I thought it was fantastic!

you are definetly not the only one

i cant stand the song

i think it sucks

southern sun is great though
cant see why some people dont like it

Posted by kr00t0n on Apr-20-2002 16:49:

After seeing this track all over TA, I quickly downloaded as many ixes as I could, but when I listened to them, I was VERY dissapointed.

I thinks its boring. Not the kind of thing I could dance to.

Just my two pence.

DJ_ALFA no offense intended but that avatar looks familiar. I think our resident DJ Dawn has something exactly like it.

Posted by trintiy on Apr-20-2002 19:13:

Punk is a great song, however most Dj's will know what I'm talking about here, it has to be dropped at the right moment in a set, just like flight 643, you have to build to songs like these and not just drop them anywhere.

I hope that makes sense to people.

Posted by Stanza on Apr-20-2002 20:09:

Yeah well you'e not the only one. I reckon it sux ass

i love the track, it's funky and fun.

Ferry Corsten - Punk (all mixes)

I think its a great tune. Its not a particularly Uplifting tune, but can you imagine being at a party where the DJ spins nothing but upliftin anthems for hours. You need some songs to introduce different moods and tempos during the night, and Punk does that fantastically.

Paul Oakenfold - Souther Sun

Another great track. I was fortunate to hear the track a number of times before I read any of the flames being posted on the forums, so I was not biased. I think a lot of people may not like the song for two reasons:
1)Its by Oakie, and for some reason, a lot of people dont like him because he has reached a level of fame that takes him close to 'pop' status
2)They are biased toward the song after reading a lot of negative reviews written in these forums, and other forums.
I dont really feel that Southern Sun is overhyped, because it gets a lot of negative attention as well.

Either way, I think both songs have a love them or hate them type of feel.

The melody (hard synth line) is really ugly sounding. Not pleasing to the ears at all. The only thing it has going for it, is that cool break beat halfway in. No chills in this tune, rather a chill killer. Maybe for use when you need to calm the crowd down because they're getting too wild.

man.... you have to hear it in a club. people went WILD when ferry corsten played it at guv... i HATED punk at the time. but when you're on the dancefloor, the song just kicks your ass and makes you DANCE.
