I don't even count %, I usually go like this; even out the change to the higher dollar, then add 1$ per item served (if the service was adequate), 1$ total if the service was sub-par. That usually ends up being around 10%. I'm not rich and I'm not generous so If they don't like it they can get another job. Those few waiters/bartenders that I tip more are the ones who exceed my expectations.
There's this bar I go to on a weekly basis. One time I wanted a drink and the waiter who was in our section (most terrible waiter I've ever seen actually) didn't come see us for about 30 minutes, so I just got up and went to the bar to order my drink. Then when he passed by he gave me shit (twice!) for bypassing him. Needless to say I never tipped the guy again.
oh, yeah, i also love the mother******s that you DO tip, one day, cuz you were feeling generous, and they won't even offer a motherfucking smile in return.
What I hate is when you're at somewhere like Denny's or Shari's and they hand you a receipt where you're supposed to fill in the amount of the tip you're giving them. Like, I usually tip anyways unless the service is right shit, but I reeeeeeeeeeally don't like to feel as though it's an obligation. That's why it's called a "tip."

When I worked a job that paid tips, the Jews were actually the best tippers. I can name the worst ones if categorized by ethnicity, but would rather not since I'd rather not be blown up.

I live in metro-Atlanta and I can say that in my experience blacks, and old white people are the best tippers.

That way theres actually an incentive for the person to do a good job, otherwise they're wasting my fucking time and money. |
This thread reminds me of the beginning of Reservoir Dogs.
remember this people: When you give a valet your car they're in charge of a 5k, 10k, 20k+ $$. For a restaurant they are in charge of your entire meal. For a bartender they are in charge of your drink. So what I am trying to say is if you don't tip good or nothing the first time just wait until they remember your face and see you again
Just be courteous and if they did a bad job in front of you then that is the only reason not to tip well or at all.
P.S. I know asking for tips it retarded but some people don't realize what I said above so I am trying to save them themsevles not just being cheap in general.
My way is
Valet, 1-5
meal, 15%
bartender, atleast 1$ a drink or if its open bar 20$ to make sure he sees me each time I want another freebe
Bad job = less tip
I normally leave over 20%, unless the service is pure crap. I was sitting at Applebee's once with my friends and decided to order a smoothie. It took the bitch about 30min to bring it out and it also tasted like crap. No tips for her.
