the way i learned to get it down and got better at it, rev to 3k and slowly let the clutch out. it helps you get the feel of the car without the worry of stalling all the time or the car lurching. yeah it burns up the clutch a bit more but whatever. its a good way to learn.

downshifting....ehh forget it till you really get down shifting in general. it will come easier if you wait.

what sort of car is it that your learning on?

Its a Saab 93 (which is a very pretty car in itself!).

Thanks for your advice!

As long as you're easy on the clutch, like slower than you think. Let your foot out. That car will slowly pull itself and a light feather to the gas will be all it needs.

Yeah honestly I think Im just going to sit for a while and play around with the friction point until I think I can step on the gas comfortably. I REALLY dont want to fuck up his car. He might stop making out with me.

Although Im more afraid of throwing a rod... which is why Im scared of downshifting...

Dont think too much about it. Once you learn its easy. Yes will stall. Throwing a rod would mean a foot full of gas pedal. Just dont do it. Save the downshifting for later. Brake pads are cheaper than a clutch so just brake like an auto at the start.

We'll save engine/drive line destruction for when we teach Ang how to flat shift through the rev range so she doesn't burn out the clutch, keep the power on hard and clutch-kick into corners to get the back end sideways properly.
For now, you stay under 4000rpm and you'll be fine

I find it very strange that americans dont learn how to drive a stick first.

I think any other country in the world, u NEED to know how to drive a standard manual car, and then u can choose whether u want to drive a stick or an auto car.

USA = the land of excess. hence why they dont know how to drive manual.

That's about all there is to it - if the engine asks you to upshift, do it; if it asks you to downshift, do it. Making it perfect comes naturally with practice.

Don't ride the clutch like it was a $5 Mexican whore.

lexus is that company that makes douche technologies for Americans right?
something about "can't park for shit version 6" and "the jolt from loss of power between gear changes annoys me version 1"

ya?

Um, excuse me. CVT is actually an incredibly useful technology. It has nothing to do with shift shock being unpopular. In fact, the reason CVTs are being implemented is because theyre a lot more efficient. People are having a hard time adjusting to them because they LIKE the shift shock.

And, it was Nissan.
