Whiskers: PVD often says that he is not a trance DJ; he's always played very diverse sets from what I have seen, and that's what I like about him.

I for one love the electrohouse/electrotrance/mantrance stuff; He also played Alter Ego, Rocker which is about the only ID I remember lol.

I had a great time and good peeps to hang out with, but the crowd made me feel a little on edge; maybe just because it was SO many people but I felt like I was surrounded by people who were really, really wasted.

i may be the only negative person in here, but here goes:

Paul played too much techno and house, too many buildups some of which were delayed by two bars and confused the hell out of the crowd and then when the buildups came, everyone started jumping and the dust went up in the air, there were too many drunken meatheads who only cared to yell "yeaaah pee vee dee" from time to time (of course you can't do anything about that), the sound system was too loud with the highs (hurt my ears at times) and not loud enough with the mids, so combined with what he played, the music sounded like it was all the same, Paul was on the knobs too much - should lay off a bit from the low-pass filter

excellent lighting, nice of Paul to play "another way" (although a strange mashup), great attitude on Paul's part, nice video screens, i liked that he used a midi keyboard to play along with the tunes, glad i missed "time of our lives" if he even played it the second night, cool that he uses the same sony headphones that i do

maybe i'm picky, too old skool and did not realize what PVD was all about, but i was not satisfied, neither was my friend. we left early, just as it seemed Paul was getting into the "trance" part (played The Anthem, what a shit tune). overall, an amazing performance, but not worth the $60 and the 3hr drive. i did not expect him to play techno and it seemed like the set was pre-arranged in Ableton (is this the standard nowadays?)

one of the house tunes I recognized was Lange vs. Gareth Emery - Another You, Another Me (Terranova & Austin Leeds Remix), quality track, but i consider it to be more a filler than a set carrier.

I totally respect your review and everybody is entitled to their own opinion but since when was PVD ever considered a "trance DJ?" Being that you're old school you should know by now that Paul pretty much plays it all. Yeah a lot of his famous productions are considered trance to most but his live performances have never been what you would call a "trance set." If he would have played all trance people would have bitched that his set was too "fluffy." Just my 2 cents.

He played techno yesterday?? he didn't play any tecno on friday, then again it depends what you guys consider techno to be.

The event sounded awesome from right outside the playfield. We were there along with a hundred other folks chillin' out there and having a blast. I think it's going to start a tradition - the PVD Tailgating Party! LOL!

My review is going to be short and sweet

Friday was good, depending on the style of pvd you like you might have liked it better than I did. I like more energy and techyness from my paul sets. The rain was a killer. The security guy that came and made me delete all of my video from my digi camera was a mood killer for sure cause I got a lot of good rain video. The rain also really didnt do me well but it seemed to get the crowd going till the sound cut off for a min. Then the rain just seemed to not like the rain anymore. Live vocalist were ok but too many paul tracks in a row.

Fridays afterparty with Steve (thrillseekers) was actually better for me. Nice crisp sound with driving bass in a dark venue. Props to core for this event, havent been so shocked from a set in my life. More props for Melly mel guiding me there on the phone. Met a few TAs at love.

Saturdays paul set was much more amaizing to me. The crowd gave paul more energy to work with and he gave it right back in my opinion. The weather was perfect, just the right temp for a good time. Met two TAs, relik from florida and vlad from ohio I think. Anyhow, had an awesome time for his saturday set.

In regaurds to the laser, it was weak but the setup itself was nice. Obviously some technical problems or a laser thats got too much hours on it.

LOL! I figured that reference might be lost to non-Americans. Wisconsin is the state where most of the country's cheese is produced.

ok i had time to play around with the footage and I will try to upload the compilation tonight. It will be divided into 5 Parts so stay tuned!

Wow seems a lot of people had the same opinion I did as far as Friday vs. Saturday - I thought Saturday was a bit better. Paul definitely rocked it both nights though, thoroughly enjoyed myself.

The situation with the bathrooms was absolutely absurd though. There is just no excuse at all for that. Having to wait 45 minutes on a bathroom line really took away from it, especially if you were drinking beer and had to go around 3 times during the show like I did.

Hello!

Great show )Great job on the lighting!!!!!!!! Although I got a bit tired of the live acts back to back to back. Almost felt like a pop concert. I loved the old tracks in the beginning of the night... but felt the ending was rathr sudden. Again with outdoor shows, they end too early!

Posted by Dj_MadirozE on Aug-20-2007 01:28:

pretty impressed best part of my night was leaving and dancing with the dudes playin drums outside to the left they were kickin ass btw pvd was teasing sooo many tunes i normally dont like alot of vocals but the ones that i did like he messed with my head...example:mindcircus,born slippy

I have seen PvD so many times since the early Twilo days. He is the one who got me into and loving electronic music so I knew there was a time when he was an electronic music genius. Long ago, though, were those days; days when he was playing tracks from 45RPM, Seven Ways, Out There and brilliant remixes. Unfortunately over the span of 7-8 yrs I have seen his creativity and innovative ability go southward. Nothing but drab vocal, shitty, cheesy productions especially the last couple of years. Furthermore, I find it laughable for PvD to comment on the commercialness of other dj's (e.g Tiesto who, agreed, is also a cheesemeister) when he has turned his gigs to a freakin pop concert. I can't even imagine Sasha, Digweed, Danny Howells and other class dj's doing that or producing such crap.
I can't believe this is the same man who used to bring the house down for 6+ hours into the early morning every other month at TWILO.

I thought Saturday's show wasa pretty good. I believe he started off with Super 8 & Tab - Suru (Martin Roth Electrance Remix), which was sick. I think he also threw in Lange vs Gareth Emery - Another You Another Me (Terranova and Austin Leeds Mix) too. But the sound was mint, the weather was perfect, the crowd was pretty chill. Got to meet VTech Early on when he was taking pictures up front, saw lee and jen randomly too. The Disco Ball was SICCCCK! I loved how the whole park was illuminated from that thing. The lasers were cool too, but I think Stella designs needs to do something new with them since it's pretty much the same setup since 03.

Made needs to work on a few things though: 1. the bathrooms - 30 min bathroom wait is not cool. 2. Brooklyn Brewery - some of it is good, but I think we need a change

Other then that, sick night

I was pleasantly surprised, I used to be a hardcore PVD fan, but I haven't seen him in almost a year, I was sick of the same songs all the time (I'm not a fan of vocal tracks in general), same encore every time, playing songs twice in the same set, all of the things that helped him become #1 to new listeners.

My favorite part about PVD is when he plays hard, which usually doesn't happen until hour 4 or 5 of a six hour set, if at all. I hated his outdoor sets cause they were always so slow. To my surprise, he was playing techno in the daylight, this was my favorite CP show of his(however I missed the year it rained).

I may have blacked out, I don't remember alot of stuff, but I know I was having fun the whole time. Some of my faith has been restored.

I'm guilty of being one of the really, really wasted. Thanks for looking out for me mama

I must say i thought saturday sucked (i didnt go friday). I havent been out to see a trance DJ since Armin was at spirit ( about 2 years ago). I hated the long-cheesy ass build ups and people praising/sucking PVDs dick when the beat dropped. Some of it was off key like somone said and cofused the shit out of people. Im always on the dance floor at parties but i was on the bleachers 3/4 of the night and could not get into the music. I guess im the only one that thought the track selection was weak despite a few fat house beats. And to make things worse i fucking hate 'time of your life'. I met kingchinc for a quick minute and def. a cool ass dude. The night just prooved to myself that im not longer into trance like i once was. Im glad everyone else had a good time tho.

Posted by whiskers on Aug-20-2007 13:23:

granted, this tracklist is from 6 years ago, but this is what i expected him to be: less dry, more groovy, fewer buildups, more melodic. there's flow in this one:

Paul Van Dyk - Live @ HR XXL Clubnight Part I 19.08.01

01. Planet Funk - Inside All The People (Deep Dish Tatastrumental)
02. Planet Funk - Inside All The People (Deep Dish Tata's 80s Mix)
03. Jimpy - Feeling Good
04. Circulation - Turquoise (Weekend World Remix)
05. M'Black - Day Dream
06. Born In The 70's feat. DJ Jack E - Feeling Sorry (Remix)
07. Stereo MCs - Different Gear
08. Natural Born Grooves - Kick Back
09. Sagitaire - Shout (Coast 2 Coast Remix)
10. New Order - Crystal (Lee Coomb's Remix)
11. Rammstein - Ich Will (Paul Van Dyk Dub)
12. Paul Van Dyk - Vega (Starecase Remix)
13. Orinoko - Island (Mogwai Remix)
14. Connector - Interference (Original Mix)
15. ID
16. RMB - Horizons (Resistance D Remix)
17. Lexicon 4 - Reach Me (Paul Van Dyk Remix)

but like i said, i'm probably out of touch with today's prearranged DJ "performances"

I've been complaining about the bathroom situation for years. Bottom line, Made doesn't give a shit. They know it will sell out regardless, and they don't care.

Funny thing is, they're shooting themselves in the foot. The ppl they are hurting the most are the older people who are actually drinking. We're the ppl spending all the $ on alcohol, and we're the drunk ones eating all the food, we use bathrooms more than the kiddies on drugs. I'm 28 and I usually go with 6 other ppl but none of them would go this time cause they spend more time waiting for the bathroom than enjoying themselves.

Maybe I should complain to the Brooklyn Brewery, if they're the ones directly making $ off alcohol/food sales they should fight for more port-o-potties.

There was def no Electrance remix as his opener - I've never seen pvd play that tune. But yeah, AYAM was nice. :P

LOL, no way mamas; I'm not talking about you! I'm talking to all the saucer-eyed etards wandering around rubbing their chest, and the meat-heads chewing on their own tongues. Us drunkards were no bother to me lol! You were pure entertainment!

It's amazing how some of you disect these shows like a freaking chemistry experiment. Why cant you just have a good time and enjoy the music. Insted you sit there on the bleachers and try to find anything that goes wrong with the show to write about on here. "Oh I thought the sound level was off, I think the colors were too bright, I hate the vocals, time of our lives sucks, he should of playes more groovy beats" Shut up already! Don't go anymore if you dont like it. It seems like these DJ's have to pass a test with all of you when they put on a show.

I'm not pro-hating at all; but reviews have both good and bad; as most people have written. Can't always please everyone.

And, personally, I won't. Absolutely not worth the $80+ I spent on it

Now, Infected Mushroom for $15 - that's a freaking steal!
