So I dug through all my old CD's and found my favorite Picotto set, and possibly my all time favorite set by any dj. Mauro Picotto - Live @ Inner City Amsterdam. (Woody, if you're reading this, you're the one who burned that set for me).

Holy fuck... flash backs of how HARD Mauro used to be. Hard, banging, relentless, undulating/driving basslines... unpredictable banging drops, strong/sudden mixes... teasing a small sample of the next song he is going to drop, about 1 minute before he actually drops it... and that signature sound effect he used to make...

I'm picky as hell with music, but listening to old Mauro sets still puts me in awe.

If I got the chance to pick between a trip to Hawaii (hotel/flight paid for and everything), or to witness a 6 hour Picotto set like what he used to play in 2001-2003... I would rather experience a Mauro set.

Although he obviosuly doesn't play like that anymore, his recent essential mix was fucking MONEY... dirty minimal tech-house. Looking forward to what he is going to give us on Saturday.

6 hours!???

does LA get lots of techno dj's these days? in the 6 months I've been here I don't think I've seen too many. Maybe Carola but none else.

Nah, LA hardly gets any real techno. And when a techno dj actually does come to LA, they tone it wayyyy down, compared to how they usually play.

And as for a 6 hour set, Mauro used to be known for playing 6+ hour sets! The closest I got to witnessing that was when I went to Toronto in Nov. 2003... I saw him & Sven Vath play. Sven played about 2 hours, and Mauro played about 4 hours.

What about a trip to Canada? See you there. Anyone going to see Digweed right after this at avalon?

Posted by SVGmethod on Aug-29-2007 18:16:

i will be there this Saturday night. It was a tough decision for me...Digweed or Picotto...I am gonna have to go with Picotto this Saturday night. I wanna hear some harder, techy, bleepy, savage stuff. I dont think Digweed would people to give me that kinda stuff. I am way excited for this Saturday night. This will be my 2nd time seeing Mauro Picotto. The first time was at Spundae and I was a bit disappointed. Hopefully Mauro brings it hard this weekend.

And JC... perhaps that guys friend is opening for your brother (like 9pm-11pm?)? Do u know the time sets???

Posted by Miss Julia on Aug-31-2007 10:06:

bloody hell, he rocked it @ club vegas. i burned off at least 1,000 calories. dark filthy minimal tech house with a picotto flavor. people kept giving him napkins saying "play komodo" or "play lizard"... so he played all his old skool tracks for the last 30 mins.... komodo, lizard, iguana, back to cali, new time new place.... haha memoriesssssssssss!

can't wait to hear the filth on saturday!

i liked the club vegas venue, but something needs to be done with the air conditioners.

Jeremy Reese opens, than David Moses and Mauro. Nobody at Giant has a bloody clue as to who the hell went out of their way to design a flyer saying they were opening for Mauro. I did see this guy trying to get into club vegas claiming he was opening for him. I went like WTF? never in my clubbin career since some douchebag dj calling himself JC getting gigs all over the hollywood scene. Promoters figured it out and contacted me. LOL It really is beyond me as to why people put themselves in such bs positions.

This is news to us! LOL nobody at Giant has a clue of who your friend is and why he's claiming he's opening.

David Moses is on 11pm to either 12:30 or 1am and opening is Jeremy Reese all Giant employees. The tone will be a dark one for the night.

His signature quote says it all, "We Beat FOr The Love Of 'E' Music"

My buddy and I (back in high school) used to call it freeway music before we knew what it was.
