The funk is out there, it's just that, as you said, the "trend" is getting progressively more minimal. Off the top of my head, there's Danny Howells, Axwell, DJ Spen, and as mentioned earlier, Kerri Chandler, all still putting out funky house.

I wish there was more of it too, but I'll take what I can get. After being forced to listen to nothing but crummy top 40 and alternative rock for a couple of weeks, I can safely say that even the minimal and/or techy stuff is at least a little bit funky by comparison.

I have no problem with the minimal/techy stuff. It's awesome. But, just like with "electro house", the bigger it gets, the more crap gets put out.

and to add to that, stop going to the same clubs all the time. there are probably close to 40 different EDM events happening in Toronto on any given weekend.

I don't get it.. how is that funny?

I think it's safe to say that if you're going to the same clubs all the time, you're going to be hearing pretty similar music.

whether it's Guv every Saturday, The Docks every Sunday, Century Room every Tuesday or College St bar ever Friday.

Like I said.. there are up to 40 different nights happening in this city every weekend. If you're going to the same ones everytime you go out and you're bored of it.. it's obviously time to try out something new.

The "every" makes it amusing.

Goood stuff.

And Sly Guy I know what you mean. I gave up on the "trendy" house and what only the big names play. There's lots of amazing house out there that gets no attention.

Yep yep yep

Here he is with Isobel and Adam

I agree with this.

What got me into house was the funked sounds of Sander K and his "Everybody" compilation.
That's EXACTLY the sounds you mentioned were missing nowadays...

Another thing, i've always noticed, EVERYONE loves funk, in any genre, electronic or not.
Whether you're a fan or not, everyone loves a funky groove/bassline that just makes it impossible not to move
