I'd go, overall, with Tiesto, even if they say "oh yeah he's that techno dj" or something like that.

Posted by jupiterone on Sep-11-2007 23:12:

Tiesto. Because really, not many people outside of America give a crap about American Football .

Btw:

Flawless Victory

I would say about 2/3 of america knows who the chicago bears are which is about 200,000,000 people. As much as tiesto thinks he is God, 200,000,000 people in the world doesn't know who he is. This reminds me of that Drew Carey game show, the power of 10.

You knew what I meant. I fixed it just for you because I know this internet forum is your life and you might lose some sleep over a typo.

Okay then.

Tiesto of course, honestly probably less than 1% of the population outside of the US has heard of the Bears.

THE BEARS

Bears for sure

Posted by Neon Sky on Sep-13-2007 15:08:

There are people that know who Tiesto is but dont know what trance is.

Posted by djbruuen on Sep-13-2007 15:54:

tiesto

because i know a lot of people who are not in into trance who know who he is. He even played the olympics. i'm not into american football and couldn't name at least half the teams. (the only reason i could name the other half is because of friends who always talk about it)

Posted by Allied Nations on Sep-13-2007 16:52:

lol @ tiesto....

when tiesto has a whole skit which turns into comic tv history on SNL... then MAYBE just MAYBE will he be as popular as da bears

for those who think tiesto, i think you are well off, and for those who think only americans care about nfl, are also off.

pro sports > niche dance music

in terms of fanbase

Posted by RJT on Sep-13-2007 16:54:

Agree.

Posted by Mr.Mystery on Sep-13-2007 16:55:

What you think and what you know are two different things, though (you being anyone in this thread).

Posted by RJT on Sep-13-2007 17:01:

By shear virtue of the number of people in the world who know about the NFL vs. Tiesto, it's a landslide in favor of the Bears.

This has to be one of the dumbest threads in the history of this forum, especially given the context and demographic of this forum.

Well done. Quite the accomplishment.

What do you base this claim on?

This, however, I can agree with. There is absolutely no way to even measure something like this.

Nothing but my own personal experience, the fact that 100 million people watched the Super Bowl last year, and a pretty solid hunch that no one is going to come up with numbers to refute the claim that in general the NFL is far more popular than the realm of "Electronic Dance Music," or more specifically "trance" will ever be.

On the other hand, the claim that "no one outside of America cares about the NFL" is a load of rubbish that all too often comes up on this forum anytime the word "soccer" is uttered, but the claim is baseless, and until I see evidence to the contrary, I guess I'm just not going to be convinced that there's even a comparison to be made.

Feel free to come to europe sometime and try to find someone who follows the NFL (and no, the people who only know the superbowl don't count).

This thread made me think of Tiesto N Tank in Concert...

Back to back dj set with Tank Johnson and Tiesticle...

I have already spent a fall semester in the Netherlands and the UK (well, just London) and had absolutely no problem watching every single Green Bay Packers game - many of which various pubs stayed open to broadcast into the wee hours of the morning. They were always packed.

That was the "personal experience" part.

Edit: And the Super Bowl counts solely by virtue of the fact that the Bears played in it last year

Tisto concerts are always packed too regardless of where he performs. That's not really an indicator of anything.
