look guy, in all honesty part of being a dj is finding the tracks on your own that makes you different. you could go along and get all the top 100 of beatport, but that's going to make you exactly the same as any other dj out there. from what you've been telling us, we all can only assume that you only know of the music that pops out in your p2p software when you type only in the search field "trance" or "rave"
so just go and do some research, find artists you like and look deeper into that, explore their labels, and eventually you'll branch out and start finding the styles YOU actually like.
if you're too lazy to do that, just go to www.beatport.com, go to the trance genre, and buy every track from the top 100 and you found your answer.
Well, since all of the above post are "sarcasim" i guess i dont know how to tell sarcasim yet on these forums. But on the forums that im a member of, they have smilies or something that represents things. Like :dodgy:...which is a purple looking face.
Thanks to all of you who gave serious answers. And no i dont go on P2P search engines and download all of the songs that come up.

Well im pretty sure you don't play records.
If you used Itunes/Beatport/Bangbus/Trackitdown you would have leanred a bit more than you display. Do you put in pre mixed Tiesto CD's. Look I admit I'm having a bit of fun at the expense of a n00b and I feel bad a bit, but don't try and tell me your intention wasnt to get some track names and run to p2p. Don't argue that because we both know it would be as truthfull as me just saying I felt bad for razzing you.
PS.. I know you saw a Tiesto Video that made you want to be a DJ, but for fucks sake at least start learning how to play and know a few producers before you post this:
As your myspace pic. You don't get to call yoursaelf a DJ overnight. You get shit on for a long time, no respect and pretty much really suck at it. Then one day you suck less someone might want to hear you....just like in this thread.
In a way we aren't being dicks to you son, we are being how poeple will be to you if you in life. It sucks, but then again so does wanting things without earning them.
and we have mordor

wel he was told to go to beatport and find his own songs, that is good enough advice.

The saddest thing about this thread is that he's actually going to download and play every one of these tracks |
Thanks for insulting the music, in which you havent heard.

Those are three of my remixes
I just think DJ Tiesto is one of the best DJs out there, and i admire his work. That is all.
Also,
I wasnt going to go to a P2P and download every track that everyone listed. I wanted to hear some to get some ideas. Sorry i didnt post my original intentions before. I know getting ideas, isnt coming up with "something original" but its how i get started on a song.
Edit:
I didnt take that picture. Someone in my computer art class did, and then photo shopped the back ground.
Im glad you were clever enough to find my myspace.
If a Mod could close this thread, that would be good.
Im not getting much help from here.
Kthx.
Don't take this thread personally dude. A lot of people start out in your position.
Most of the posters in this thread are just bitter, mostly because you're obviously playing live, while it's extremely apparent you haven't been djing long (at the very least with dance music). Many of the people on these forums have been at this much longer than you have and have a lot of trouble getting gigs due to the sheer volume of talented dj's, therefore the bitterness.
Right now you enjoy very commercial music, which does help you get gigs - enjoy it while it lasts, because very soon you will be very tired of that crap.
So, the moral of the story is, it's just the internets, don't worry about it.
You're also asking what to play, without any direction on what you want to play. This implies that you have no idea what you're doing, which again gets on people's nerves because you got a live gig. It would be different if you asked "i'm looking for more tracks like x track", or "I'm looking for tracks with a bassline like y track". Just asking "what's some good trance"....is gonna get you flamed.
There, now hopefully you understand the reasons the responses were as they were.

| Originally posted by all-nite-freak That could be right for some people, but i think you are off base a bit. (ps can your sig get any bigger?;p) What gets me pissed off is not the gig aspect, but the " Omg i want to be a dj because its so cool and everyone else wants to be one." It has nothing to do with the music, the love for it, only the idea that if they get a cracked copy of ableton and the latest tracks from the 3 names that they know they can be the next superstar DJ. 1. The superstar Dj Era is dead. 2. If you want to make music, make it, don't copy other people that is even lamer than wanting to be a superstar. If you don't have your own ideas, don't make anything. 3.Gigging isn't everything. I just turned down 2 gigs because I don't want to play like they want. For some of us staying true to our sound is more important. Money isn't everything. |
No sympathy at all. If he didn't want abuse for asking a stupid question he should have used google. Why people rely on strangers for info on things that can easily obtained searching with any search engine is beyond me. He is lucky enough to have started liking this stuff in the computer age, so forgive me if his plight does not urge me to put on break up music and cry furiously while spooning my blow up Armin doll. ( And I know when he says hes making music, hes only taking elements from other tracks and mashing them together..that isn't making anything but me wanting to laugh more.I'm guessing Acid Pro or Cool Edit)
ps. it was big enough for you to make it normal sized wasn't it.
