What better and different about this version?

Posted by Fledz on Sep-18-2007 10:36:

Better graphics, more bug fixes, better gameplay, additional optional campaigns, total conversion mods with full campaigns, freespace 1 total conversion (FS Port) plus the expansion etc.

Do you install that on top of your existing original game?

Posted by Fledz on Sep-18-2007 11:32:

You can, but you don't need the original. You can download the game and then just patch it with FS2_Open.

Posted by Massive84 on Sep-18-2007 12:43:

so is this a free game?

Posted by Fledz on Sep-18-2007 13:02:

The Open Source is yea (the remake). The company released the source code a few years back while still retaining the rights to it. Basically it means you can share it with as many people as you want and do what you want with the code, just that you can't make money off it.

I'm all for spreading some of the best games ever on any platform for free. Oh and upgrading them in the process too

It downloads additional files during install.

Freespace 2 is my favourite game of all time. Playing it with a joystick and throttle was a huge part of the experience though o.O

Ok now I'm gonna see if I can get through all of FS2 in just one sitting. I've got my cans of redbul ready, peanut M&Ms and other essential needs and god I need a job
