Just a quick question regarding active studio monitors. Is there a volume adjustment anywhere on the speakers, seeing how there's no seperate amp where you can control the volume from the source of speakers. Would that mean active monitors need to only rely on the volume setting brought by the mixer or whatever audio source it's connected to (i.e winamp on the PC)?

does anyone own the Behringer Truth 2031A monitors??
I've read reviews of people complaining about RF interferences problems with these (apparently, this problem doesn't stop even after using balanced connections).
my choice has boiled down to between these and the KRK RP-5s which fall within my budget..
I'm not into production (yet)..and I just want some decent monitors to train my ears better and improve my mixing (my pc speakers have burn out now)
I'll just be using them in a 13'x11' room.
any thoughts/suggestions??

Excellent for both mixing and production.
Hi,
I want to pick-up these as well - can you tell me where did you get it and for how much?
thanks

Did you get a chance to compare the lower-priced RP8 with the V8? I need to get something better than my subless home stereo speakers for DJ practice and house parties. Looking for something that is good for messin around plus small parties, so the music has that "fun" sound without having to be really loud. imo real PA speakers need to be run excessively loud (in a house or small club) to sound best so that's why I'm thinking monitors - quality sound at safer, comfy volumes. |
I'm also looking for a sort of multi-purpose set of speakers. All I use now are some Logitech Z2300s, but I'm looking for something that will be better for small house parties but non-PA speakers. Something with enough bass for a crwoded room. Active of course.
Any suggestions? I'm pretty clueless in this area.

Hmm...right now I'm leaning toward the Truths. In the reviews, people say they're good for house parties...

just picked up some behringer truths today
i've been playing/producing on them like 8 hours today
very happy
I own the Behringer Truth's 2031A as well and I'm still glad I bought these. Just one of the best monitor speakers you can buy for that little money. The bass is a little bit over the top compared with the usual suspects in monitoring. They are loud as hell and are suitable for small house parties with not too big rooms (20-25 square feet max.). If you want to use these primarily for small parties I suggest to go looking for something more PA-like in the same price range.
I guess that they aren't quite the best for production, but as far as dj'ing concerns I'd say go for it
on new years at my buddys house party we had KRK 6's and Truths going (not sure on exact model) but it was loud as FUCK and sounded so good.
the KRK's are mine and I enjoy mixing off them.. sound very nice.
I'm a newb, buying my first setup. been mixing on my computer for 4 months now. just wondering if it would matter if I hooked up the turntables/mixer to say a bookshelf system rather than buying studio monitors.

Roland DS8, iv just ordered these & a sonic BBE Maximizer, cant wait to get them hooked up
what do you guys think of the m-audio bx5a? my budget for monitors is no more than $300 and considering the space i have i don't want to go bigger than a 6.5 and no smaller than a 5. I can get these off ebay for $200. my second choice is the Nady sm-250a 6.5 which are also $200.

im in the markit for a set up for house parties. read about the B-52 Matrix 1000. are there any similar systems to this. What do you recommend?
Well I have the KRK Rokit 8's with sub for computer production. Also have a set of Electro Voice 'Force-i' 15's and an EV 18" sub...and it's a bit too much just for my studio at home. It doesn't stop me from using it, they just rarely pushed hard until they go to gigs.
I finally picked up a pair of B2031A Truths and man these things are amazing! It really humbles you during the mix as you can hear all the imperfections.
I got them price matched off the web at Sam Ash in store for 279.99 new. Amazing bang for the buck I must say.
I have a pair of the KRK RP-8's.. and I love em! Inexpensive, reliable, and plenty loud. Paid right about $430 out the door, with tax. I tested them all out; up to the $499 BlueSky's and $599 Dynaudio's. My budget limited me to $600. Seeing and hearing them proved that they were certainly not half the quality of the others, yet had half the price. I was sold.
They play reasonably low and are quite clear. They sound fantastic when used with the KRK 10" sub (next thing on my list). The setup would run you around $800 retail, with sub.
They have sounded smoother since Ive racked up some miles on them. I have over 200 hours on them, and they have never let me down yet. One gripe: Their power cord connector is a total POS. Almost seems as if you touch/brush up against the cord (for whatever reason) it will unplug itself. I used a cable holder and attached it to an existing hole. There is no issues with power now.
I would drop by your local GC/pro audio store and take a listen. If you like what you hear, you will definately like what you see (sheer quality and price). Beat on them... you might be quite impressed.
got a good deal on the krk8s ($350 for the pair) and well now i need a deal on the sub cause i need some bass!
...or maybe trade them for some non-flat monitors
