Flame muchly? Anyway....

quote:
then you shouldnt have to ask why i referred to halo as slow.

I did, because it isnt the same type of game. As I explained.

quote:
youre an idiot. i never said that it had to conform to anything. you asked a question, and i told you why i didnt like it- its too slow. did i say "omg its not quake" ?

It was the idea of a comparison between Halo and Quake that I was objecting too, clearly stating that if you meant to say you only like games like Quake than that was fine. Instead you reacted defensively like this to a post that didnt wasnt calling for a release of rage.

quote:
oh yeah sorry. my mistake. that's why the extreme "tactical" nature of this shooter had deathmatch and team deathmatch as 50% of its multiplayer modes (at least, memory is a bit foggy). tactical shooter don't give the games airs it doesn't deserve.

Sigh. I said it bends more towards tactical shooters. As opposed to trying to be a DM-type game. I didnt try to say it was realistic, nor extremely tactical.

quote:
but, since you raised it- halo requires far less skill than almost any shooter i've ever played. it was slow and painful to play. the only reason halo is big is because of xbox, pure and simple. it doesn't hold a torch to any decent PC shooter made in the same era. possibly the worst MP FPS ive ever played (of any title of note). boring, slow. its a fanboy's game, to be loved by those with relatively minor experience in topnotch shooters (ie the casual console market).

You say it asif it's fact. Its subjective. I am not dealing in subjectivity, I am simply saying that looking at Halo like it's supposed to conform to DM-style gameplay is problematic.

quote:
are you fucking kidding me? fuck man, its like you think it was the second coming or something games like deus ex or bioshock are difficult to classify. halo, no.

Wow, a real bastion of power for the PC FPS gaming you are. Flammatory and a generalisation imposing prick. Nice.

I dont think Halo is the second coming. (see my first post in the thread that slates Halo2.) I have actually speant most of my forum time over the past couple of years or so on a site called H2S, which specifically slates Halo for all it's dissapointments despite the massive hype and lies Bungie poured into the game. Don't put words in my mouth, especially trying to claim that Im putting words in yours.

By the way, Im not a kid and clearly show a higher mind and maturity than yourself, reacting in such a way to a singular un-provocative post.

i played halo a couple times, nothing special

Halo is the best example that exists of the absolutely horrid state of affairs the modern gaming industry is in. It works solely because it panders to the lowest common denominator and has absolutely no soul.

The epitome of a generic FPS that any asshole can pick up and play - utter shit.

Fuck Halo.

Posted by stren on Sep-25-2007 14:56:

i wouldn't say its soulless, its got a pretty interesting plot. Its not too innovative, but it has its appeal.

I think you just say that because you don't like it and you are frustrated by the hype. Am I wrong ? ?

What story again? Doesn't every single review of every Halo game that has come out even acknowledge that there really is no story what-so-ever?

Beyond that, the environments are the epitome of bland, the pace of the game is mindnumbingly slow, the weapons are as generic as any I've ever seen, the multiplayer is the exact same multiplayer we've seen in FPS games since Quake, and the single player experience is without a doubt a waste of time.

If you'd like me to go on, I'll gladly do so - but if you really think it's just the hype, and not the fact that I've actually sat down and tried to enjoy these utterly shit games, you haven't the foggiest.

halo1 > halo2 > halo3

multiplayer > campaign

anyone who doesnt like it is simply mad cuz they keep getting their asses kicked. how about you try playing the game and getting better instead of just crying about it?

i get my ass kicked on a regular basis but can also kick some ass too. but when you get a good players and a good game going, halo is one of the best games ever.

i will be playing the 3rd halo whenever i get the money to buy an xbox360. ill be a month or two late and everyone will be owning my ass, but i dont care. i play to have fun, and when i can to kick some ass.

there are way too many people out there that take gaming too seriously. and to be honest, the only ones that should take it seriously are the pro players that play in tournaments for $50,000. everyone else needs to shut the fuck up. ITS A FUCKING GAME! THATS IT!

That's essentially the equivalent to the "I'd like to see you do better!" argument that gets thrown about in Music Discussion threads every day - congratulations on joining the ranks of the other gimps who can't form a coherent argument or thought and thus choose to talk shit and make baseless assumptions instead of even attempting to sound intelligent.

Brilliant strategy, Pat.

if you like it not, i have an opinion. you can choose to disagree, but you cant invalidate it. sucks for you.

This is not how you posit an opinion:

And furthermore, if you really wanted anyone to take your opinion seriously, acting like a 5 year old whose parents have told him he's special one too many times is hardly the way to do it.

I see you base your knowlege on reviews. No story what-so-ever? laughable.
Weapons generic ? yeah, needler and plasma grenades are so overused

Posted by bas on Sep-25-2007 17:05:

I liked the Halo series because of the replay it offered. The lack of story line made it really easy to pick up again and again and just blast little alien guys with an SMG

Halo 2 was a bit more difficult (from what I can remember...never owned it, just played a few levels extremely stoned) and I still liked it based on gameplay alone. It's not THAT difficult, but I'd say you get your money's worth because one has the ability to play it over and over. Then factor the multiplayer on there and you have a whole new level of play. I never much cared for the deathmatch 1v1v1v1v1v1 etc style of play, I enjoy more team based/co-op style of play. Not sure if Halo 2 had that (never really played on line).

I'm getting an xbox 360 and Halo 3 because damnit I have a huge HD TV that wants to play with sweet graphics Also I got so sad getting shot down trying to find a Wii over the past few months that I've just decided to say "I haet you Nintendo " by buying a 360

Baseless assumptions are so chic these days.

i hate Halo simply because my ex used to play it when he came home drunk and there was no way i could ever escape the noise of gunfire and shouting on those nights.

I still never understood the popularity and hype surrounding this game. It's pretty fucking average IMO. It's sickening seeing HALO soda cans, HALO slurpy cups, and all the other products/commercials plastered with HALO crap.

It's microsoft's crown jewel, so it's expected. I liked the first one on original X-box, but it wasn't AMAZING. I had much more fun playing Splinter Cell or Ghost Recon.

Posted by bas on Sep-25-2007 19:07:

Splinter Cell rocked!! That's actually the reason I bought my first xbox

Posted by mezzir on Sep-25-2007 20:55:

I honestly can't say what it is, but halo 2 is extremely fun. The plot's ok at best, its not terribly original, and its not terribly different. But still, they just seemed to get everything right. Its one of those games where i really can't describe why i like it so much, but i definitely do. That said, i have a 360 right now, but its not mine, and i'm supposed to ship it out to a friend. actually, i was supposed to already. but god damn do i wanna just say fuck him and get halo

Posted by biznology on Sep-25-2007 22:02:

halo is frustrating for me as when i was adept, all my friends said it was shit, and when they gave a crap, i gave up.

as for the whole 'its total shit crew' that is absolutely not true. yeah PC games are more intricate, more advanced. but halo is pick up and play. many PC players only play online or LAN play, which means you dont sit down and fuck around for the hell of it.

its a bit slower, but its not a frag fest. its about f-ing around.

that being said, halo3 doesnt look as impressive as i would have thot, but the 4 player coop seems sweet|

amen to the bolded part
good fucking lord tremors is fun

(on the big desert map with 2 bases on opposite sides, i forget what its called: its 2 people vs. everyone else, the two people get in the warthogs, and everyone else has to get from one base to the other, no one's allowed to fire shots at all
so yeah, tremors
so much fucking fun
