He actually deleted any evidence of it, I've only heard of it by word of mouth.


I've tried to get it on many occasions, lol.

I don't think any high school students can tell the difference/appreciate a good mix between tracks, so perhaps that's why the DJs don't particuarly care? ...Or they just suck really bad.

i'm talking more about the high school kids that think they are dj's. not saying you can't dj if you're in high school, but many of the main stream ones have no idea wtf they're doing but it doesn't matter because they are playing all the mtv songs.

wow i wish people thought that DJing was cool...I went to one of the science classes today cause they were learning about sound waves, and the teacher knew i was a DJ so he told me i could get out of class for the day to come in, DJ a little, and let him explain how like the sound waves and vinyl and something i dunno i really wasn't paying attention...and yeah no one at my school thinks its cool really...

people who dj because they think it makes them cool should be forced to go deaf.

id even accept the least bit passion about the music but if the dj does it to get laid / public recognition he should be shot in the ear

Often those who are truly dedicated to the music are the ones who DJ -and- produce

I got heck of a lot more respect for producers rather than DJs , the music does the work, the DJ just helps

um i never said i DJ because it "looks cool" i DJ because, yeah i love and live the music. I'm just saying it would be the coolest bonus if people at my school thought it was cool.

i was referring to earlier to the fact that someone stated about highschool djs thinkin they're cool by djing.. was just stating my opinion on the matter , no direct attacks against anyone, i dont think anyone here would admit that they dj for coolness factor and not bend over haha

the politics /sucking cock factor always kills me though how people get gigs who shoudlnt be there, but those who dont have the gigs are also to blame for not trying hard enough, vicious circle

yeah I know. I'm super lucky. My school has a radio station, so i get to advertise myself for free and what not, and my best friend's cousin owns one of the biggest mobile DJ companies in norcal and so cal, so i got really lucky with him. but yeah, i get what you mean.

There was this club in town where the main DJ was bar manager too and he'd regularly go on the mic between tracks and shout loudly "ARE YOU READY TO PAAARTY?" and similar crap. Annoying!

He hired an assistant DJ and the new guy figures he's got to emulate the boss, so it's the same type of thing starting early, all night. No warmup tracks, just loud sh*tty obnoxious tunes starting 9 pm and those idiots on the mic. No beatmatching - just end-to-end tracks.

Oh yeah - the music - they used whatever was lying around the DJ booth on "promo-only" and other subscription series, mostly garbage. And the DJs are bragging that the music collection is worth $3,000.

They ran that place into the ground with bad DJing and trying to bring people in with cheap drinks. I pity the fool that owned that dump! Closed now, nobody would buy it.

I don't really enjoy posers, but sometimes they'll introduce EDM to someone that will really care so I guess I don't mind so much.

Anyone who doesn't either mix or perform turntablism (scratching, etc.) isn't really a DJ. The worst offenders are the "professional DJs" who set iTunes to play Top 40 pop songs in shuffle mode on their iBook hooked up to some poorly EQed, distorted loudspeakers. It's always the same tunes, too... every single one of them plays that same Ludacris track with the synth line and Sir Mixalot - Jump On It. Then they vary things up with some "techno"... aka Sandstorm. Don't people ever get sick of those songs? I usually get fed up after the third track and try to request something different, but of course, they don't ever have it in their massive 20 song back catalog. People like them make me want to pick up turntables myself and learn to mix.

LOL. This sounds kinda like the shit club I played my first residency at. The owners were total jerks, regularly forgot to pay the staff, and basically did what they could to please their little circle of [crack-whore] friends, while giving the shaft to everyone else. I am glad that I left when I did. About 6 months after leaving the place, it shuts down for 3 months, moves to downtown and re-opens under a different name. The original location turned into 24/7: The Church, which was actually a cool idea for a church/rock venue. That place got closed down because the church forgot to find a way to make money to pay the rent. That building is now occupied by some Latin club called Medusa. I doubt that they're going to stay open for more than a year judging by the rate at which businesses enter and leave that spot...

I think you guys are missing the point behind Top40 DJs. They are not hired to mix tunes together. They are hired to select the best tunes for the occasion that most will know and enjoy. This does not include us. The fact is that most people outside of the EDM circles hate to hear a song that doesn't follow the verse-chorus-verse formula, and they especially hate to hear songs mixed together (Why? Because to most people, they need to have a definate end to the music so that they can get a drink/leave the floor, etc). Playing dance tunes and mixing them together throughout a night is a great way for a Top40 DJ to get fired!

Top40 DJing does, however, pay better than normal club DJing does. Unless you're Tiesto, pulling $400+ per gig to select tunes and maintain a sound system is a pretty good deal! I would do more Top40 gigs if they came around, but I would have to borrow Promo Only/Ultimix discs from someone since I don't keep up with those anymore.

Chuckster: I know your pain. I cringe when we go to 'spring fling' type events and such and we have to endure Top40 DJs. Just remember that what we hate to hear is exactly what tons of other people love to hear

A former mate of mine done a party at a 90th birthday, so obviously by gauging the audience he would play some older stuff from the 60's and 70's, but no, he insisted on playing trance & hard house. I know it sounds risky, and it was, but some of the grannies enjoyed dancing to Oceanlab's Satellite!!!

Yeah, DJing isnt really cool. Think about it, to be a good DJ you have to be a proper fucking geek. You get any real DJ started and theyll bang on about music, their record collection, equipment etc etc etc for hours, nay cool.

People love the idea of the DJ, thats cool, but when they find out the reality theyre somewhat disappointed.
