Anyway,i like Ninja Scroll a lot,and Princess Mononoke(though it has a silly ending, these two should have hanged out together!)
and Akira tops!Perfect blue is nice, and the Street Fighter-II and Alpha are great too..and there's Ghost in the Shell, though i didn't get it at full, hard to understand!
I recently saw Titan A.E. and it was great!

thanks i appreciate that

speaking of ghost in the shell, i cant wait for ghost in the shell 2 to come out..

have any of you checked out mamorii's live action film, Avalon? its almost exactly like existenz.. same kind of theory, but not gory like existenz is.. its very beautiful if anything. filmed in poland, tho done by mamorii (who did ghost in the shell)... i have a divx rip of it that i share in the hubs (woo hoo! one more incentive to come in there and visit me )

Posted by Nastarte on Apr-26-2002 22:49:

ah! i love Avalon! got the subbed vcd a while ago. smashing movie. such a strong feel to the film. i think there is a multiregion dvd of it , want to pick that up..very well done. didn't know there was a ghost in the shell 2 coming out.. nifty.

Posted by Fandom on Apr-26-2002 22:58:

Well,Mamorii is sure one of the greatest but...strange thinking this guy!Though exciting!
Ever seen Mulan?it's not really an anime but it looks like one and it's one of my favs too!
Great story soundtrack senario characters animation everything!

Posted by Fandom on Apr-26-2002 23:03:

Posted by blazed it on Apr-26-2002 23:31:

I also like the Ranma series!

OMFG best series EVER!!!!!

no mindfuck, but comedy, action and romance
the OVAS for this one were nice too

Posted by sothis on Apr-26-2002 23:36:

you guys who like ranma should check out fruits basket.. similar in a small way

Posted by Fraggle on Apr-27-2002 07:15:

yeah!

have akira & gits on dvd

would like patlabor when it's released too

my bro has lain, gasuraki & nge on dvd...he works at the video store, so gets them pretty cheap

ninja scroll was good too, damn i haven't seen any new releases...local tv channel used to show them regularly but recently they've been doing a lot of world movies and kinda stopped with the anime ...pity 'cos they used to show a lot of kungfu movies too which i love

i suggest the ovas then. popular opinion is that they are better than the tv series

i don't know if its the ovas that i have seen (i know its not the tv series, cuz i know those blow bigtime). whatever it was that i saw, it was damn good...maybe it was the ovas...i know 100% that it wasn't the tv series shit. In the movies that I watched, he uses the sharp edge of his blade, whereas in the tv series he doesn't, since he vows to not kill anyone after the 2 videos that i have seen (which leads into the tv series). very very good stuff...and the ending...wow, unexpected. The 2 tape series really shows, that even the most cold-blooded killer does have emotions. Awesome stuff.

Posted by wushuboy on Apr-27-2002 09:47:

My favorite anime are
Rurouni kenshin : the tv series
Rurouni kenshin : OVA 1 and 2
Love Hina <--- sooooo funny
ranma 1/2

Posted by kr00t0n on Apr-27-2002 17:06:

*had backflash to when he was about 8*

Robotech rules! Even though the animtion is dated, its still great with an epic storyline

I also quite like Cardcaptors for cutsie type stuff...

Posted by sothis on Jul-26-2002 20:16:

i thought id resurrect this just because

new series that i recommend:

Witch Hunter Robin: a lot like hellsing, but with newer animation style... and witches instead of vampires 3 eps subbed as of today

Juuni Kokki: my favorite series in a long time... so hard to explain the plot, just get it. not cookie cutter plot or animation, only series im watching right now which makes me want to watch the next episode with each episode i watch. 8 eps subbed so far

Chobits: at first it just seems like a dumb ecchi series but as of the last two episodes the tone has changed a lot and its really interesting. about a guy who finds a female robot and is trying to teach her about life.. its a comedy.

Spirited Away: INSANELY good movie, put out by the same guy that did totoro.. imagine neverending story type fantasy in an anime. its just really damn good. the japanese dvd just got released so there will be a good dvd rip floating around to download now instead of just the screener.

oh, and the ghost in the shell tv series should be interesting.

Posted by Fandom on Jul-26-2002 20:31:

Yeah, Spirited Away is a GREAT movei,it got some awards and is a definite must-see!
I watched Blood - The Last Vampire some hours before, and though small i found it to my liking,a fairly nice movie!
Also got my hands on X and Fatal Fury - The Movie, haven't watched these yet but I've been told that FatalF is really good.
Anyway,i'll try and see what i can find about Juuni Kokki, sounds good.
Hey Sothis,do u want to have a conversation on these?
just pm me

A friend handed me a Metropolis DvD yesterday and, needless to say, it was brilliant!
Not so much of a great story but splendid animation.
Those people(Osamu Tezuka crew) did it again..Recommended to all the fans(who haven't watched it yet!)
Any other of you favs people?

Posted by P4z! on Jul-28-2002 13:42:

I like anime, but I haven't had the time to watch so many different movies/series

Ghost in The Shell
Akira
Rei Rei (lol somekind of hentai/comedy movie, really funny!)

I love the Ranma and the Neon Genesis Evangelion series!

Posted by trite on Jul-28-2002 15:47:

I also love Evangelion.
Cowboy Bebop is another of my favorites and I was just watching Akira this morning!

As a matter of fact I just ordered all of these DVD's yesterday!
Love Hina
Inu-Yasha
Trigun
Excel Saga

Posted by MaGiK54 on Jul-28-2002 16:39:

Neon Genesis Evangelion was nice, only the end sucked big time.
Bubble Gum crisis 2040 was also big fun.
Akira classic
Devil Man rocks big time
I've seen many more, cause a friend of mine is an addict. I always borrow his dvd's. He's got a big collection, 60+ manga-dvd's.

Posted by Fandom on Jul-28-2002 19:11:

yeah,i have a friend who is addicted to divx and has made an addict of me too!
Many manga divx movies here, great quality too!

Posted by Fir3start3r on Jul-29-2002 02:23:

Thumbs up

Watching Metropolis tonight...

Posted by sothis on Jul-29-2002 16:39:

it seems like most people in the thread have only seen the old or popular stuff, and not anything new thus, you really should download some of the stuff ive mentioned! lots of it wont be on dvd for prolly another year and is really worth seeing in addition to the usual bebop/eva/etc

Posted by xpander007 on Jul-29-2002 18:28:

I don't really watch or keep up anymore, but a few years back I was big into anime. Series like:

Kenshin TV
Fushigi Yuugi
Eva
Trigun
MKR
Nadesico
Escaflowne
Slayers

stuff like that I should start watching again but I don't know what happened to the fansub area of the hobby

Chris

its still alive and kicking!

i think i already mentioned direct connect awhile ago in this thread, but ill say it again!

download direct connect at www.neo-modus.com ... if you can get 25 gigs to share, come to animeplanet.server41.com ... 450 users usually, 25 tb of data. there are also hubs with a smaller min share too. you can get basically any old or newer series, easily.

or, go to irc... thats where the new eps come out so i spend lots of time in there too... you can just go to individual channels for each fansub group and get the episodes when they are released. theres a really good website that shows all the fansub groups, their irc channels, and it shows what (unlicensed) episodes get released daily.. its located at http://www.envirosphere.com . another good site for info is http://www.animenfo.com

hell, ill be in the tranceaddict direct connect hub soon.. so if any of you want some new episodes/series and dont want to find them yourself, hit me up in the hub and i can share them for you to download
