You must have a WORK visa to come into the US if you are coming here to work...as in, you are coming to the US and getting paid to DJ. Must get a new one every six or twelves months. This is for tons of countries.

Menno de Jong came here a few times w/o one...then one time got stopped in Detroit while on his way to LA (to play at an afterparty for US. Armin and ATB played at the main party). Turns out he didn't have a work Visa (I don't think he realized he needed one) and was forced to turn around and go right back home. Don't think he's been back in the US since and this was last July I believe. Dunno what's the status on getting him a work visa.

You need them for a lot of countries, the US is diligent about it though, whereas Canada... Ya... Not quite the same, haha.

I'm glad the Zabster kept his cool, shows what kind of guy he really is. And I think (as previously mentioned) we are ALL thankful he didn't decide to pull a Tenaglia and start pooping on promoters chests, or whatever it was he was threatening to do, good one Danny T, been in the industry a thousand years and hasn't gained an ounce of professionalism, smooooooth.

Yeah, US has been diligent since 9/11.

Remember Laurent Garnier was booked to do a US tour in 2005 and basically gave the US a big F-U after it turned out to be so much trouble and what he thought was necessary unreasonable after more changes made to the restrictions in 2004. Think they wanted all kinds of private details like proof of things he owned, bank account info, phone records, info on his family members, and more.

He's doing some US dates in November (Spundae/Avaland in LA, Chicago, Miami, New York)...not sure if its his first time in the US since he cancelled back in 2005 or not.

oh ya, he def gave a big F-U to the united states huh.... riiiight, they probably dont give a shit

anyhow when applying for any visa you need bank account information, proof of ownership of a home and criminal records and job information.

Yes. They were trying to cut his set short. I forget the exact details of why, but it stands:

If promoters try to cut your set short, make like Menno and tell 'em to "Fuck off!"

And I couldnt go 5 minutes without some fucking dumb girl asking me to play rap or soulja boy

seriously though, why are you idiot promoters thinking you are above DJs like JZ? isn't he basically a legend?

Same thing happend to me, I djed at a house party and people would literally come up every 2 mins asking me to play something different. I start playing hip-hop, a group of people come up asking to switch to house, i start house and another group comes asking for raggea... also people kept touching the platter so i couldnt mix... after about 20 min i said i had enough and threw my headphones down... will NEVER dj at house parties again, unless im locked up ina cage with the cdjs.

I believe he made a blog about that but I am sure you can find a thread on that.

Menno name dropped just about every other sentence. "omgwtfbbq i hung out with so-and-so and then ate with so-and-so".. etc..

edit = here is the thread in NYTA
Clicky

ow well i think he knew he needed a visa.

What a lot of european djs do when they play in the usa they enter the country on a simple tourist visa. Then they don't go through all the hassle and also the working permit cost a lot of money.

On his blog dutch DJ joost van bellen said when he goes to the usa he cleares all his usa dates on his website and myspace in case customs googles him.

Well Menno just took the risk but he got caught.

I hope you're talking about Danny T 'cuz all Zabiela did was write a little paragraph on it. I think the one getting a little dramatic here is you..

This is almost like celebrity meltdown news... I don't even really know why this is hugely relevant.

Funny how this applies to the USA as well. No intention to offend, I just find it ironic.

Only difference is that since it's such a big fucking country, you eventually find nice, friendly people.

Posted by cmay119 on Oct-24-2007 03:01:

Haha that Menno pic is funny. Now reading the story I get why he was giving this girl the finger. At first I thought it was just a picture of some random girl dumfounded Menno wouldn't accept her request for some DJ Sammy...

This is not a case of a celebrity melting down. JZ was kicked out of the club, before he could finish his set. He was simply informing his fans as to why he stopped his set 43min into it.

Just info, not real drama. I for one, would appreciate a DJ taking the time to tell us what happened.
