I suggest you open a merchant account online. Like Paypal, but I highly recommend not using paypal, www.paypalsucks.com

Here's a few of these sites that provide these banking services...

Have your customer pay you through your merchant account instead of giving them your bank account number...

citibank has set up Obopay as a rival to Paypal with a $10 gift card incentive.
I don't really know too much about it, but most people are just taking the money and running (I think they run their banking through "the ease of cell phone texting", which costs .10c per text)

we do that kind of thing on trademe.co.nz all the time, it's the preferred payment option in most cases

i used to work at a telemarketing place ( read boiler room haha) that would take money directly out of your account through a process known as a phone check..... basicly they would record them reading you a full out agreement on what you would be recieveing and the terms of payment and then i think they sent the recording to the bank and the money was debited out.

Think about it for two seconds, everytime you write a check to someone they not only have your banking info but your signature and address as well which is worse. if this is a credible buyer you have nothing to fear if not then yes use paypal...

Depends, is the person a prince from Nigeria?

If so, then of course it's safe.
