Typical response. I hear the same crock from my sister.

The USA wasn't included because they already have solid statistics for the USA, since the obesity "problem" has been studied to death. The USA has a much higher population density than Canada, therefore there is a higher absolute number of obese people. It's been known for some time that per capita, Canada has been just as bad, and now, it's worse.

But Americans are still fatter. Definitely. Has to be. Stupid fat imperialist redneck Americans!

Recently I made "French" potatoes - you boil them a little bit, then put into a baking pan, mix with grated cheese, strips of cut ham (I use chicken or turkey ham), chopped onion, slices of boiled egg (though I don't eat that very often), chopped peppers or other vegetables, maybe a pickle, and then you put salt & pepper on top and set to bake for a while (until the cheese melts). Yummy! (maybe you know that recipe).

Or... I make pasta. I used to make it a lot when I was a student in University, cause it's quick and easy to make. My cooking easy recipe knowledge really isn't that broad, so I'm limited. I prefer it when my friend or my grandma cooks for me

My tip for you: make pasta and salad. Or toast... if you have a toasting machine. Or be like me and make potatoes.

hahaha oh man u sure do eat a lot of potatoes...but hey at least u're creative with it..and potatoes are sooo damn yummy....i make all kinds of recipes actually...bc ever since i moved out of my parent's house where i'm used to home made meals every day i had no choice but to learn how to cook...it was kinda hard at first but so worth it now knowing how to prepare healthy home made meals

Yeah... home made meals are the best I wish I knew how to make more of those off the top of my head, I can if I have a recipe, but I rarely cook different meals than the ones I described, cause you have to have all these ingredients and sometimes many pots too and it's just cumbersome. Or in many cases it's not even that, but the fact that I'm lazy. I don't like cooking. I just like eating... so it's best if someone who loves cooking, like my grandma, does it for me... unfortunately for me, she lives in Europe...

I wish I still had a grandma

I was too young to appreciate her while she was around. Always cooking. Always asking me if I'm hungry.

"Your growing boy, eat eat"

and then if I didn't clean my plate...

"jesus, forgive these children that don't appreciate your bounty" (sounds better in native tongue) LOL...

She was so proud just watching her family eat her wonderfully prepared meals.

*call your grandmother(s) and ask them how they are doing, then tell them how much you miss them, and that you're never as satisfied as after their home cooking*

/nostalgia

There's something about preparing a feast and seeing everyone stuff themselves and tell you that it was an awesome meal

An even easier solution: Don't eat more calories than your body can make use of in a day. Wow. Incredible . What a magnificent breakthrough!!! Where's my nobel prize?

I love hearing people go on and on about how they just can't lose weight, blah blah blah. Come on people. its simple. content control. /sigh

The Americans are fatter but Canada is getting worse!

It absolutely sickens me walking ANYWHERE and almost every other person is fat and some are obese!
One thing that bothers me even more is ppl that are very fat but still can't find the right size of clothing and then you can see exactly where that quarter pounder went! lol

It's not hard cooking your own meals. I do it with my bf almost every night (except when there is a special occasion or we're just too busy), and you save $!!! But besides the population being fat, they're also lazy!!

Posted by Spin Laden on Oct-25-2007 14:48:

Canadians and Americans are so fat because we drive everywhere (don't use bikes or walk everywhere like Europe and Asia), too much salt, msg, saturated fats, transfats, too much tv watching, and worse of all, we're always on the internet (most wired countries on the planet).

Get off Facebook, Myspace, MSN, porn and TA you fatties (posted with obvious hypocritical intent)

This surprises me, I never saw canada as an obese nation. But, then again, I have never been to all the smaller villages and towns where people "tend" to be larger anyways (thats just an observation, not necessarily a fact....I notice in the states the fattest areas are the redneck areas and slums....probably because of the lower income, it is easier to buy mcDonalds/White Castle $0.49 burgers than buy fresh vegetables, fish, etc.....)

Anyways, just thought I should mention that like a month ago I saw another study that says that England is now the most obese nation. I will have to find it because I dont remember if it meant % wise or what the data was based on. Not sure if any of these studies ar absolute truths.

not everyone. I walk 40 blks round trip to and from work everyday (10 blks to subway, ten blks off the train to work and those same 20 going back home........) NYC is def awesome for a little extra minor exercise.

(but.....even when I had a car I was always one to take the stairs instead of the elevator, etc on TOP of going to the gym a few days a week.......when you are already predestined to be big via genes, EVERY thing counts......)

Hahahaha
damn straight man
nothing like a plate of steaming potatoes and schabowe with ogorki kiszone (i hope you can read in Polish) all home made baby! it's the only way to go

PS. I have absolutely NO sympathy for people who are obese. I hear all this talk about "genetic problems" and "hereditary problems" and then I see people who are in wheelchairs because of their weight, stuffing their faces at the Mandarin. Or better still, FAT people eating in their cars in the parking lot of McDonald's. DISGUSTING and wasting tax dollars to help then with their "health problem" which is really just an incapability of controlling their revolting gluttony. GROSS.

Okay while it is true that some people are extremely fat because of gluttony, you have to understand that some of the people who are obese and over-eat are that way because eating for them is a coping mechanism. I read a study not long ago that proved that eating can be addictive. The gist of it (that i can remember) is that when we eat, we produce dopamine - the neurotransmitter that, among other things, allows us to experience pleasure. The study had found that people who suffer from obesity had defects in the dopaminergic responses to food; which is to say that they needed more food in order to feel "better", much like a drug addict.

That study also found that a lot of those people knew of the health problems they were facing but were unable to stop themselves from eating because, as i said, eating is their way of coping with stress in their lives.

Now i'm not saying everyone is like that, and i'm not saying it's okay because they're addicts. All i'm saying is don't be so quick to judge, not everyone eats just because they're complete gluttons.

in other words, they eat because they lack self discipline?

they get no sympathy from me

yep thats true, too> not an excuse for everyone of course. Some people are just fat and lazy and gluttons. But, take me for example....I am no where near obese (see avatar pic) but I was born into a very large family and have zero metabolism. I am still on the bigger side. I work out 3 days a week minimum and eat perfectly (I HATE greasy/fatty food, it makes me feel sick....and I control portions).

Am I skinny though? Not even close, nor will I ever be. But it pisses me off when people might think that I or other people like myself are lazy and eat too much..... because I take care of myself better than most skinny people do.

^^just an fyi before the comments and judgements about "all" big people come rolling in........
