i agree, some people don't like the "wahhh wahhhh wahhhhhhhh" synth in it though. it took a while to grow on me.

Posted by noikeee on Oct-28-2007 02:05:

it's not that i dislike it particularly, it's just that i think it's fairly forgettable. yet everyone in here is like WOAH DUMP TRUCK!

and the wahhhh-wahhhh-wahhh is a slightly modified version of the 1st preset sound on a VST called Absynth, which makes it annoying to me (mainly because once upon a time, i tried to make a track with it, that ended up being absolutely horrible and it still haunts my memory)

i can see that it could be a good dancefloor track though.

the only reason i think "whoa dump truck!!" nowadays is because i used to hear rob hammer it out waaaaayyyy back in january. seems like it's the cool track to play now though :shrugs:

Dump Truck is a great summertime funky day party track. I always get a good reaction when I play it out. I agree that its a bit dated now, funny to see Holden still whoring it.

C.O.M.A. - Coma 1

Yeah I said it

Sorry but that track is pretty damn boring. Three's Star Spangled Edit is a bit better, but the original does nothing for me. Park It In The Shade, however, is BOOOOOOOMMMBBBB!!!

Sounds great even on a crappy system. I could get my neighbors to yell at me with that bass.

Eh, I like Hunted as a quick mix into The Subliminal Kid - Expected As You (Ananda remix).

And the Chaim remix works alright as a tool, but to me on its own it just bores me. I haven't heard it out I don't think so maybe I'm missing something.

Its one of those tracks that requires a very certain context to work well.

You do have a point there, we could all move to a "most under-rated track" or "best track of the year" thread, that'd be more productive.

Might be a tad obvious, but "Heater" anyone? Can't believe the amount of hype around it, it is such a dogshit-bad track, it really does make me sick...

How can it be overhyped when nobody seems to like it?

And I dunno what shite weed you're smokin Ted, that Chaim remix is the bomb! Funky, chuggin and fast paced, works great to pick up the dancefloor when used right...it's one of my fav tracks to play out right now.

Saw Digweed and Lee play it out, when Lee dropped it everyone went nuts!

Also, I like hunted alot , sounds great on a big system!

I can't think of three tracks that fit the description of "overrated" more than these.

I was shocked "Hunted" was release by Cocoon, that Chaim mix does absolutely nothing interesting, no matter who's playing (It was part of the most boring Sasha set I have ever heard), and how in fucks name you of all people can defend "Ribcage", even as a DJ tool, shocks me to my core.

And my overall vote definitely goes to "Ribcage", but could just as well be given to 90% of what Dubfire has ever produced.

Posted by RJT on Oct-28-2007 13:28:

Also, I'm getting really fucking tired of this whole "It works great as a DJ tool" nonsense. It seems like everything these days that's made by a producer we somehow feel compelled to pay lipservice to "Works as a Tool" even though it's utterly fucking worthless.

If I had a nickel for every time that phrase has been uttered on TA (or in general this past year) I'd be a billionaire.

Sometimes I really miss the days of just hammering GOOD music and not having to worry about how in fucks name I'm going to mash three tracks together to make them sound like one halfway decent one.

/rant

Edit: And add Ambivalent - R U Ok? to my list of overhyped records that are absolute shit yet somehow everyone and their brother seems to believe is "brilliant."

Actually a ridiculous amount of people do like it, not just where I'm from, but on the forum as well. It makes no sense to me, it is just ball-achingly bad...

Nathan Fake - Outhouse (Valentino Kanzyani Rmx)

+ Deadmau5 tracks, new Dubfire tracks, new Pryda material, Trentemoller "Moan" remixes...

I dunno, I just enoy ribcage, its simple and works for me.

HUGE +1 on Kanzyani mix of Outhouse. I cant stand that track, I dunno why anyone plays it, and the original is just so much better that it boggles my mind.

+1 on the moan remixes...

lol, just saw this post. First off, if you think I play ribcage just because dubfire made it, you're wrong, and secondly I use alot of unknown tracks as DJ tools along with it, and I've been doing that for a while, both on ableton and CDJs. I didn't know it was frowned upon to play with 3 decks every now and then. If I thought a track was "utterly fucking worthless" I wouldnt use it as a tool either, obviously I see it as something interesting to use or alter within a mix. I understand your PoV but the insinuations are a little harsh

"Gel Abril - Very Wrong (Chaim remix)"

i didnt know that was the name of that song. i always called it the homo flute song because of that stupid flute part.

"Martin Buttrich - hunted"

why is that track hyped? ive never heard anyone play it. i think there may have been a typo in the charts because its the other side of that record "HUNTER" that is great. "hunted" is such a terrible cliche track. theres a million tracks that have a girl talking in a monotone voice. it gives the track this feel of a snooty pretentious fashion show type thing.

"not exactly" and "faxing berlin" are super duper awesome. how can anyone not like them?

the only thing i agree so far on is pryda. pryda anything is generic and plain sounding. not very creative.

Posted by wotyzoid on Oct-29-2007 02:56:

+1 for deadmau5...

..and Martin Buttrich rocks regardless of the air time, we should make a thread for underrated songs instead a got a shit load....

Lol, I think that was a little more generally directed than you took it, regardless, while DJ tools are all fine and well, there sure as hell seem to be a large number of tunes released (and played as) tracks that somehow escape being called out on the fact that they're utter trash because one bleep in them is pleasing for you (or anyone else) to loop for four minutes.

And the only thing I'm insinuating here is that it's getting to the point where people need to stop worrying about the process and start concerning themselves more with the end result.

Take hat however you want it.

Ribcage is a great track.
Kanzyani remix of Outhouse was really talked up, nowhere near as good as the original.
The deadmua5 stuff is ok, but not worthy of all the hype.
The Greg Donwey remix of Heaven Scent was hyped too but I thought it was fairly average.
Also, Tiesto - Ten Seconds Before Sunrise was garbage but heaps of people seemed to go crazy over it.
