Originally posted by jerZ07002 apparently pettitte isn't precluding a return to the yankees. i think he had a deadline to accept, and he didn't want to commit just yet (contemplating retirement)....sounds like BS to me, he could always accept then retire anytime.

Originally posted by ludawg23 I don't blame the guy. Why commit to a team with so many question marks right now? I think he waits until the situations with Posada and Rivera are dealt with. He has already stated that he'll either pitch for the Yankees or retire. He's just trying to guage if the Yankees can put together a formidable team for next year. It's pretty clear that Andy's not about the money.

well technically ur both right i am hating on arod an yes i consider him a bust beacause out of the 4 yrs he only produced 2 out of those yrs an even the first yr(mvp yr) it was stats that weren t needed, when the yanks needed him he choked but when runs weren t needed hed be an all star, this yr its all stats an yes he did help them but it suited him better cause contract time also he was suppose to be the final piece to bringing rings back i mean lets not forget the back of the daily news when he first was picked up by the yanks titled Princes of NY it was him jeter an torre so in a sense he was a bust an yes i will continue to hate on him (hes worse in my eyes as bonds or clemens for that matter)

honestly arod is a good player no doubt about it
but i think he wants to be the star of the team but at the same time he wants to win a championship
he saw that he was the star in texas and loved it he stood out
but i feel he came to ny to try and win a champoionship
in ny he was not the star he was 1 of maybe 5 or 6 top players
he needs the spotlight on him but when hes in the clutch he dont do shit
honestly i could careless if he comes back or not i know it will be tuff for the yankees to get that type of power but for the price they are gonna pay him they could save and buy 4 third basemen lol

Originally posted by ludawg23 Kidding about what? As I said, he's either going to sign with the Yankees or retire. I completely agree that he won't see that type of money elsewhere. I never said he was weighing his free agency options. 2008 is going to be a tough year for the Yankees IMO. It's going to be interesting to see what the Yankees do in the offseason. Do you trade some of your young stars to get Santana or Cabrera? Should be fun...

Originally posted by jerZ07002 that pettitte isn't about the money....if he wasn't about the money he would have stayed in houston. and we don't trade for santana or cabrera. i don't agree that the season is going to be bad. we have two proven rookies (yes, as odd as that sounds, the rookies are proven), and we only lost AROD on offense. I think we should move for bonds (i hate him, but its a good baseball move)

Lowell's numbers are directly correlated with the dimensions of Fenway. He's built to hit in that park, which is why you see such a drop off when he bats on the road. Defensively, he's a perfect fit for any baseball team. Offensively, he's a perfect fit for the Sox. For that and his ability to lead in the clubhouse the Sox will resign him.
If not then there's an outside chance we make a run at A-Rod but, other than that, I don't see us making any huge offseason moves. Theo's unwilling to trade young arms for Santana and Bedard and I don't think we'll add another bat. Management will give Drew another year and people are confident Dice K will have a Beckett(esque) turnaround in '08.
I do think we'll trade Crisp for relief pitching or prospects before the season starts.
don't forget that eric duncan was at a time the top prospect in the yankees system, and one of the top prospects in baseball. He's still only 22. There was a noticeable drop off when he was moved from 3rd to 1st. Now, perhaps he can move back to third and move up into the bigs.
Santana for Melke, Hughes, and a prospect not named Joba.
I hope to god the twins don't accept that, or the yankees aren't serious.
santana is 28, hughes is 21. while hughes wasn't spectacular for most of the season, he was solid and remember he was pitching a no-hitter in his second game before his injury, and he pitched well under pressure in the playoffs. he has too much upside potential. we don't need to follow st louis and make a mulder/haren trade.
Santana isn't even available until after the 08 season...Melke's going nowhere..Cashman wanted Gagne badly but wouln't part with Melke to get him.....Nice little rumour though...
I always find it funny how fans overrate the prospects on their team. (I'm guilty of it too) I just don't understand all the fanfare surrounding Melky Cabrera. .273/.327/.391 is not good.

Originally posted by jerZ07002 i agree....take melke. the only thing i like about him is his arm. i don't like giving away players who were ranked as the number 1 prospect in all of baseball (regardless of their first season). Santana didn't have a great first year himself. 86 innings, .302 BAA, 6.49 era.
WOW.........willis and cabrera to the tigers.
Detroit looks like the team to beat in the AL. That lineup looks SICK with Miguel Cabrera in it. Granderson, polanco, cabrera, ordonez, sheffield, Rodriguez, renteria, and inge. That's the best lineup in baseball now.
the rotation is pretty sick also, willis, bonderman, rogers, robertson, and verlander.
after his memorable stint with the boston red sox, eric gagne signs a 1 year $10 million dollar deal with the Brewers
