What's the big deal with other genres? Personally, I'd try to do a different genre each night, maybe on a weekly rotation or something... and I wouldn't limit it to mixed music either. What's wrong with letting some student guitarists plug into the PA if they're down? Or whatever other musical talent is on campus? Heck, they're students too, and should be given the chance to play if a campus-owned venue is created.

I love EDM and all, but variety is good.

That doesn't soundproof anything. Outside you'll be able to hear all of it. Egg carton just spreads the early reflections causing the sound in room to be more consistent.

Honestly I would go with a standard Rane Mixer like the MP22 or 24 instead of a 600.
If a bunch of knucleheads are gonna play with it the Rane's are work horse club mixers and can take a pounding. Sure they don't have a million bells and whistles, but its reliable, sturdy, and sounds good.

i think personally that the scene (besides music) is all about seediness, darkness, shadiness, edginess, crazies, hedonism, etc. this environment is the reason the music is what it is. if you try to legitimize it you get sterile music and sterile people.

schools just usually don't see that as an ideal.

Alright, so I've pretty much finalized the whole equipment issue.
They are going to get a 'standard DJ mixer' ( I recommended the djm 600, if they do or do not get it, thats their problem).
For the nights that I will be playing there, I'll just lug over my gear, and set up. No biggie considering I live like 500 yards away.
This is not supposed to be Godskitchen, this thing is just a place for students to throw parties with decent sounding equipment, and lights to make it 'fun'. This project is by no means an EDM specific club. I could imagine people wanting top 40 and hip hop, and considering we are in eastern Nebraska, I could imagine seeing some country here and there as well. It is all up to the group who is organizing that specific party to establish what or what not they want played. As much as I'd love to go to town each week and play house or elektro (since I know people will get up and move their asses, granted they have an open mind to music), it would not be rational for me to expect such.
All in all this should be a good way for students to have an excuse to throw a decent party, and have the means to do so. When I do play EDM, I'm hoping it will go down well. Time will tell though.
