Amen. It's easy not too lose respect for someone you never had any for in the first place.

i have nothing to add other than it's ridiculous how many people are taking into account his place on the DJ Mag list and how it affects him personally.

I used to be a big fan of him, esp his music on "Seven Ways" and "Out There and Back". He's gone too far from the "Out There and Back" sound. He had some minor mainstream success with "Tell Me Why (The Riddle)" on that CD, but it was nothing like what he's doing now as far as completely pop sounding garbage that he's been releasing. That still had a relatively "indie" or "unique" sound...esp with St. Etienne. But now his pop sensibilities are more overt. He can still play a banging set, but nothing like he used to in the early 00s.

I don't mind when a musician goes a bit commercial/mainstream and try being successful. I just hate it when they lose all the energy/motivation they had before doing so and forgetting exactly what got them there. Therefore leading to making utter shit music. This goes to a number of producers/bands.

those are all respected pop artist.

im talking about making a shit remix to a shit pop artist. there is a difference. gimmie more

Posted by iammesol on Nov-03-2007 19:23:

Oh, and I noticed someone mentioned Junkie XL remixed this as well. I listened to his entire myspace player a couple of hours ago, and it ALL sucked. What happened to Junkie?

Posted by Venire on Nov-03-2007 19:46:

Wow, I must be really odd, because I like "In Between" more than "Out There And Back". Then again, I've only listened the latter once a few years back, once only because it was really fucking boring. I dragged the CD to my comp to take another listen, but I never did, and now I can't find the CD anywhere. But really, if the first listen turns me off so bad that I don't want to take another listen after years, something's wrong with the people who appreciate the album, not me <_<

What's so different now may I ask? This sort of thing has always been apart of PvD. Some people are just fucking blind. Or deluded. Or both; like LoveHate.

The difference, in my mind, is that all those artists had a shred of dignity.

Can you think of a more disgraceful artist for him to have remixed? Britney Spears is the poster child of musical blindness and delusion. Is this remix supposed to be a play of irony?

Agree, I still have some great PvD sets on my pc dating from before and around that period, ... great and interesting trackselections in those.

I heard him play a set on Tomorrowland in Belgium past summer and he played a descent set. Unfortunately he also ended it with Anthem (really hate that song ). But even apart form that last track, he didn't play a set as he did in the past.

Yeah, I am just dying for the kind of money he has made and the kind of popularity that he has.

he wasnt kicked out of mfs. he left due to legal problems. do ur fuckin research.

why do all u trance faggs look suprised? hes a man of business, he likes money. so he will remix the artist that are 'hot' in mainstream music now. easy money. junkie xl does it all the fucking time. leave the guy alone.

As much as I loathe Britney Spears, I have to say I've personally been itching to remix "Gimme More" since the first time I heard it. With those atrocious vocals and vocal samples removed, there's an absolutely banging electro-trance track underneath! Bit cheesey, no doubt, but that could be helped with a bit of tweaking

I'm eager to hear PVD's take on it!

Uh oh, I guess LoveHate has now lost all respect for me

He is my favorite DJ, but he is definitely not the best out there. Aside from his poor production he is quite a great DJ (mostly). I went to see him at Roseland on the 26th and he was weak, but every DJ is allowed to have a bad day once in awhile. Just dont make me pay $50 for it. =) Aside from his bad performance, the crowd was great. I guess thats why I like the guy, because I could always count on a good crowd and hes got great track section. I went to his signing at Virgin Records When he was in NYC and he shook my hand. Tiesto didnt even look at me when I went to his signing. =)

That's a new one

Posted by Darrell Austin on Nov-04-2007 08:11:

he really just sucks now, Im tempted to say he is even worse than armin and tiesto now.

seen him 4 times this year, every single time he was absolutely atrocious. Extreamily cheesy and boring.

I miss the PvD circa 2002 =[

Posted by echosystm on Nov-04-2007 09:54:

I heard a set, it was all house.

I mean... I love house, and I thought it was horrible. Epic failure to the max.

The live @ energy set on TA is still one of my favourite sets ever. It was probably one of the first sets I ever got haha.

Posted by Rick D on Nov-04-2007 10:12:

how you can say he is shit I have no idea. I was quite shocked when i heard white lies to find out that it was his new tune, it is quite poor, but there are also some very good tracks on his new album (Big Bang, New York City).

As for his mixing, all of you that say he is a shit DJ have no idea how to mix yourselves IMO, there is no other DJ that i have seen that is capable of putting tracks together the way he does. Yes he does have poor sets and i have been to a few of them (SW4 this year would be an example, when he broke his set up too many times to have live performances in aid of album launch, or his set at Slinky in April this year, where there was no set progression whatsoever), but I have seen him about 40-50 times now in the last 3-4 years, and have to say there have been many more good sets than bad sets (a good example being his 6 hours at gatecrasher in may this year, absoloutely blinding!!!)

Also, as for him playing the anthem in every set, why do you think he does it... the majority of the crowd fucking love the tune and it gets them going, also the sign of a good DJ, playing tracks that please the crowd. I hate the track and refuse to go anywhere near it, but then i'm nowhere near as good as PvD

His mixmag cd's, legendary, especially that one that someone linked to on discogs, its still in my cd wallet for my car now, pure class
