So close i got knocked to the floor almost by the guys fighting and swinging knives. 4 people were stabbed and slashed in the face. I dont know about you but that seems pretty seriouse to me. I was freaked the fuck out as many others were as well. Pretty much ruined the night all together and we left not to much after it all happened. Ive also been in the club when it was EXIT in 99 or 2000 when someone was stabbed and killed as well. Yeah noone died but they were pretty close to it. All this shit is seriouse no matter how you spin it. Its pretty sad that what this world has come to. These places are supposed to be places to have fun and be with your friends and make new friends. Not watching your back at all times and fearing for your life. Sucks that this is what we have to deal with.

I was right there when it happened too.....def was serious but not life threatening. It's a damn shame people like this have to ruin it for everybody. I believe those stabbings back in the day triggered the whole deal with clubs turning away Asian people at the door in fear of gang related crime. Instead of beefing up security they just started racially discriminating club-goes which is bull shit. Not sure if we will ever find out the story behind this shooting but I will tell you one thing.......I will think twice before opening my mouth to some twat that thinks he is the shit at a club.....you never know.....it's not even worth taking the chance.

Ive been working in a club in the Uk when someone was shot... along with seeing people stabbled and bottled no more than a couple of feet from me on a couple of ocassions. Had to give evidence and everything before.

Could have happened anywhere- not exclusive to S america by any means. From friends who play there often it is a lovely place to play.

There is a big gang problem in one city where I work related to the drum & bass/ garage scene, and those nights ALWAYS have trouble...but then it only takes one nut job in the crowd to do stuff like this.. hardly exclusive to a particular genre.

Where was that?

EDIT: Venezuela, sort of makes sense.

Do you go out by yourself pretty often? If so, hauling ass would the only reaction. I wouldn't be surprised, though, if a lot of those people "standing around" were trying to find their friends that they came with, either by looking or talking to people who know your friends. The last thing you'd want to hear is that your friend died because he or she crawled off behind a speaker while gutshot and no one found them until it was too late (and you never tried).

Like Jason said, this kind of thing can and does happen anywhere. Stop pointing fingers at everyone else and wake up! I don't see why anyone would possibly feel the need to start such a stupid argument right now anyway.

Posted by MeLLyMeL on Nov-05-2007 15:09:

I hope that person gets caught.

So sad to see something like this go down in a EDM event!

Oh and LOL @ someone asking if they got a refund. wtf man?? That's the only thing you can say after watching this video.

I couldn't watch the whole thing. eesh.

Not "pointing fingers", simply noting that I've seen more than just "a few" cancellations by DJs playing in South America, and gave reasons as to possibly why... I don't know what it means to "wake up", I mean, we can't mourn for days on a message board for people who we don't know; talking and discussing about it is more healthy... Wondering if they got a refund, imo, was a more stupid thing to say than discussing the South America techno scene and its sociopolitical role in the countries mentioned, between two people who know two different sides of the scene well.... Just my 2 cents...

But it's the same way in NYC or anywhere else in the world for that matter. The shooting at Crobar, the continuous stabbings at the PVD New Years Eve event at Ikon a few years ago; these are just a couple examples.

And these crimes aren't exclusive to music events. Presidents have been assassinated, people have been shot in movie theaters / malls / etc...

Good points I personally remember being @ SPIRIT for Armin Van Buuren back in June two years ago, and was like two feet away from the guy who stabbed a bunch of people... Anyway, I'll stop debating, cos it seems to be offending people... lol

It really sucks to find out about this. Its on many message boards and sub-forums, etc. Some people are complaining that people should not be posting the video. I for one like to have as much knowledge as I can so I know that if I am ever in a club that this occurs in to get the heck out of there before the real panic ensues. Notice the other body not near the other 3 towards the end. Was it a trampled or shot person. Either way, not good.

My question is this though, even with slack security surely someone should have been able to find an automatic weapon capable of firing that many rounds that fast. Doesnt seem like that would be a small concealable gun.

I'm not offended if that is what you are implying. I just find it ignorant how you went about defending your stance against Jason's as if you know better then him. I'd think anyone to talk like that would have had to have been there, not to mention you seem to be basing everything off of heresay.

Well, shit happens everywhere in the world. I remember a shooting at AD (Giant)about 3 yrs ago and nowbody said anything about it after words. There is violence everywhere in the world. The point being is that I dont think is fair to bash an entire continent for something that happened in one country. It's like saying : "Oh, I won't go to Canada because someone got killed in the USA"

There are 12 countries in Southamerica of which I've been to most of them and I've experienced nothing but good times. Nice and friendly people (not to mention the hotties ).

In fact, I personnaly feel safer walking at night in downtown Santiago, Buenos Aires, or even Rio than LA, or NYC.

well, when four of the top 10 most violent countries are in south america (venezuela, colombia, brazil, & ecuador), some people may have reservations about going there. i don't necessarily agree, i can't wait to go to south america. it's definitely on the top of my to do list.

Shit is fucked up regardless if its a knife, gun, or even bare fists. Theres no reason to go out to parties like this and start shit. Another reason why the world is becoming more and more screwed up everyday.

Youre gonna like this one Walid...I got stabbed with a broken bottle three times in a club in Brixton,,London...Once in the face,,once in the back and once in the head...I was in the hospital waiting to get stitched up for so long that i just cleaned myself up,,borrowed a shirt and went back to the club....I had a wicked evening and got stitched up the following day....

Posted by SebG on Nov-05-2007 21:16:

It is really unfortunate that weapons enter the grounds of entertainment and fun. It really unbelievable how you can have fun one second and the other you could be dead. I don't understand how clubs do not check people for weapons. I just hope this never happens to one of us.

HOLY SHIT! I'm buying you a bear and a shot for that Steven because that is what I call a true Clubber and a trooper Hats off to you sir

Posted by Serial Killer on Nov-05-2007 21:33:

that is some messed up shit and should ever happen at a party or

anywhere else.

But its weird that the security at the clubs are mainly concerned

with not letting any drugs into the place then weapons. for

example, when i went to PVD at Roseland Ballroom, the woman that was

supposed to do the search just looked at my costume, found it funny

smiled, and just signalled for me to go right in. She didn't know

whether i had weapons (which I DID NOT), drugs, or any other

dangerous and illegal shit. I mean i thought about it for a second

but then i heard Jason throwing down the beats so i completely

forgot about it. But think about it. Drugs, i unterstand they were

there before and they will be there in the future. Plus people who

are on them usually are the ones having fun.

But weapons, just for having the actual idea of coming in to a party

place and fucking it up for everybody, they should be shot just for

that

It wasn't actually a big deal...I had to go back to the club to get my coat and my car keys...I was buzzing my tits off and J00f was playing so I just stayed...The funniest thing was that at the end of the night the promoter got on the Mic apologising to the clubbers for what had happened and to say that he was going to the hospital to check on how I was doing....He didn't realised I was mashed in the corner....

It's not heresay if I've been there, my whole family's there, and we know these things... Let's make things simple: there's clubs that book DJs like Jason and have beautiful crowds that love the music, and then there's the other 70% of EDM-related venues that no1 from here would ever want to go to because of the shadiness factor... The US has its meth problem as you go inland, and they have their big drug problem too, which just happens to go very hand-in-hand with EDM in the past decade... Imagine if Made Event was the only legit promoter in New York, and all the People NYC's, Massive's, Basic's, Melting Pot's, Giant Step's were all run by big-$ drug dealers... Not saying Jason's wrong, he's completely correct to a certain extent, but there's a whole facet of "the scene" there people don't understand, and as booking agents get more acquainted with the promoters they're involved with, it may be a reason as to why (like I said earlier) many gigs have been cancelled over the past year....

Ask yourself, WHY are we talking about this? Because Carl Cox is involved... Otherwise, it would have been just another shooting in the local news in some parts of South America... I know because I've been there, and away from the resorts and tourist areas, much of it is third world. Having family there and having been there many times doesn't make me the 100% know-it-all of course, but Jason playing there often doesn't make him either... That's what an intelligent conversation is, it's not "ignorant" like you say, it's just exposing other points of view. Ignorant would be if I said "all those Mexicans should stay out of the EDM scene."... dig?

Yeah, did you know in RIO, out of every 100,000 inhabitants, 78 meet a violent death. In BOGOTA, 80 in every 100,000.... Compare that to less than 8 in New York. I'm sorry dude, but not one time that I've been in Ecuador, Panama (not SA, but just mentioning it), or Colombia, did I not have an experience that involved gunfire less than a block from me, first-hand experience of being pickpocketed, or seeing a car-theft... With the exception of the tourist areas of the capital cities, the locals know very well that you can't walk the street at night, it's sad but true. Every night, when you go to sleep, you hear gunfire, it's just a natural thing.... I've seen poverty that almost compares to shit you see on Feed The Children commercials from India or African countries... And then a mile away, you have the rich section of town with its two or three BEAUTIFUL nightclubs filled with beautiful (whiter) people... Luckily, my family is pretty middle-class/upper over there, but that's not to say they don't have a 20 foot wall around their house, which would be consider a middle-class-sized house in the states... I hate to jack the thread, and I hate to be seen as the bad-guy in this thread, but some stuff that people are saying just has to be corrected...

It's like going to another country where someone tells you he had an amazing time in Camden, NJ, but he was really in a small and very nice neighborhood in Princeton... like night and day. I'm done with the thread lol I really don't wanna be seen as a bad guy for disagreeing with people so much...

If remember I think it was 2 years ago that Steve Lawler>? (not sure)was playing at some club in Mexico and finsihed his set and then was forced by the owners (Mexico Mafia connections)to play encore. He treated and played and got the hell out of there.

+1 Marcello.....I follow you the whole way.....and after reading your posts I decided to do a little research of my own and found out real quickly that you're right......there is some shady ass shit going on down there and it very well could be the reason DJ's are canceling gigs. I read a story about a fire that broke out at a night club and killed 40 some people.....they said all the fire exits were blocked from the outside so people couldn't get out once the fire was started.
