u wont find better tech support anywhere. and for 30$ unlimited is a good deal. the only catch is that u better hope u have a good connection and aren't far from a CO.

i suggest u give them a call and see how far u are from a CO by giving them ur address. they'll be able to find out if you might have a good or bad connection.

heard lots of good things about these guys.. anyone know if they throttle?

no. but again, their service can only be as good as the quality of your line. so if you're far away from the CO, there's really not much they can do. although i have read before that if there is a stinger or a remote close by, they might be able to move u there, if bell actually does it.

Anyway, you really can get those speeds from Rogers, just not on Torrents. But torrents are always slow because half of your bandwidth is getting munched by the protocol itself.

its all about usenet.

I you that years ago. I used to love how my 'highspeed internet connection' gave me 0.5 kb/s on torrents. 100 seeds, 20 peers and blazing speeds of 0.5 kb!

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/ is a good resource in finding out which isp is best for u. As far as bandwith throttling...news to me, i've been with cogeco and they recently suspended my account,, when i called i thought for sure they were going to warn me about my bandwith usage but it turned out to be spam warning. I don't have any spam on my computer and I regularly re-install my os every 4-5 months. I don't understand why they did this to me. Suposidly you get 3 warning for going over your bandwith limit , then ur banned indefinately. I would say it might be a good thing to go back and fourth between dsl & cable to confuse the isp's and make urself un-noticeable. Has anyone used bitTorrent seeding from their isp'svpn??, i heard that u can do that and it increases ur up speed.

Fuckin sympatico's retention rates sucked! Now they don't even have ANY support for usenet. It's a dying beast in Canada.

rogers i think is about 5mbps

aurora cable only works in aurora/king city area, it's basically a little square of land that they provide connection to
here is the coverage area

Yup... I use ACI and live in Aurora, and at 9MBps. Sometimes it's screamin fast, others meh.

My torrents go in the mid-high hundreds SOMETIMES, and only if I disconnect my router and turn off firewalls (spent too much time trying to tweak it so I said f-it). It's great to see xbox games flow in in a few hours, but not consistant.

I pay the price though... $60 with tax and rental (bc I don't have cable TV to get another 10 buck discount)

You must have a dial-up connection if that's the biggest one you could download. The average broadband e-penis is 32 km.

Rogers Light.

Bell and resellers of Bell facilities get access to the remotes... AFAIK companies who run their own SLAM out of the CO do not (Rogers doesn't for sure).

anyone considering dsl should call into their telco and drum up a story to get them to run a test on the phone loop... it will report back the length +/- 200 or so metres... will also isolate some nasty line conditions like ground/battery/high resistance opens that will screw dsl signal but often not affect voice service (and as such doesn't get noticed)

Ah...maybe we are thinking of different things? I was talking about retention for usenet...as they only kept messages for a day or so. Now they don't support it for free.
