it aint that popular there as far as i know.house is their preffered genre as far as EDM goes
AGORIA
we don't even have cheesy trance here, and as Marco.V said, the most 'trancy' part of France, is around Strasbourg, closed to the Germany... else the only chance you've got to hear about trance is internet..
we have Agoria yeah... but it isn't really trance.
PsyTrance is quite popular in France, esp in Paris. & everytime you talk about trance, that's what people immediately think of, psy.
as far as i know Noemi = 1 singer + 2 german producers, that are also behind 666
Hope we'll have some new talent coming, new djs too, to promote trance here... radios & cd stores totally ignore trance here..
Laurent Veronnez (Airwave) is originally from France isn't he?

I kind of agree with you, but whenever I play a music video of Kate Ryan, I get this warm fuzzy feeling inside.....
Trance is not an important genre in France, but France does have great electronic music. In fact, I would say that France is competitive with Germany in being the most significant country for electronic music (not dance) history. What made France not very compatible with trance is that it has historically preferred the more 'organic' forms of electronic music, with roots on musique concrete, where all the sounds had to be taken from the 'real world'. The opposite happened in Germany, where the synthesis of new unique sounds was essential for the development of their brand of electronic music. That is why Germany gave birth to Kraftwerk and then was the birthplace to the evolution of European techno and trance, while France had great house, tons of amazing experimental music, idm and the genius of Thomas Bangalter!
This was the legacy of some of the most important pioneers of electronic music history: Edgar Varese, Pierre Schaeffer, Iannis Xenakis and Pierre Boulez, the founder of Ensemble InterContemporain (IRCAM), arguably the most important electronic music center in the world.
I'd rather listen to some good refreshing and funky French house a la Daft Punk/Thomas Bangalter than most of the generic fluff that's coming out from trancedom.

just my 2 cents, talking here about producers only.
Phillippe van Mullem is FRENCH, he lives over there.
There are several producers in northern france who have done a great job, like emannuel top, bruno sanchioni, bruno quartier (the guy who made the original version of nalin and kane "open your eyes" in 1996, a track that Nalin and kane then BOUGHT from its original producer). Then there are people like total eclipse of course. Let's not forget about all the others. PhiPhi, Greg D, etc... who have done a great job in the early years!!
Lo
