im sure you had a touch senstive screen, an internet borwser that shows you the way the World wide web ACTUALLY looks whne you are on a computer... 8 gigs of storage, etc....

you people cannot stand the fact that this device has gone beyond everyones expectations.

Why are all phone companies scrambling to mimic this phone???

Stop hating guys.. this phone is really unbelievable

i have 2 gigs of storage on my phone, touch sensitive screen, no and i dont want it, because like i said before its too sensitive, you drop your phone and it will crack. Yes i have world wide web as well, blackberries had access to that years before iphone came out. What else is so good about it? the way it looks?

Posted by Moral Hazard on Nov-08-2007 19:27:

^^^^ What you're failing to grasp is that Apple invented none of the technologies contained within the iPhone. At best it's an innovation, and even that is questionable.

*** edit... this was in response to CK's post

I had a blackberry... and the way the internet is shown is not the way the apple shows it.

Plus,.... many phones dont have WIfi like the iphone.. and the touch sensitive intelligence doesnt compare.

WHEN I MEAN TOUCH SENSITIVE.. not touch sensitive as in "oh .. theres an icon.. ill touch it and it will take me to my application"

you guys are in denial

I dont care if apple didnt invent things.. the fact is.. the level of innovation in this phone made it so cool to use. Even most digital cameras dont have the option to scroll and zoom in and out with your fingers the pictures you have taken.. or even email those pics with such speed.

I think what youre saying, and I agree, is that apple did not INVENT the mp3 player, the operating system or the phone. What they do (very well) is take existing and emerging technologies, blend them together with remarkably intuitive interfaces, sleek design and forward thinking (not to mention a kickass marketing department).

Someone once invented the wheel...then someone put a car on it...then another person made it into a time traveling deLorian...Each and every step is important. The iPhone has done for cell phones what the Ford Model T did for cars.

exactly!!!

I dont buy things from a compnay based on the fact of whether they invented it...or base my assumptions on a product on irrelevant factors such as them "copying" ideas from other companies.

If the product is impressive to me.. i Buy the product becuase of what it has to offer.

Another fanboy who is behind the times.

I have been playing NES, SNES, Sega, Genisis, Gamboy Advanced, and Quake on my pocket pc (or any smart phone with WM2003+) for the last 2 years.

If you actually find a feature that is not on other portable deviecs, come back, but please learn whats out there.

Again any PPC using Windows Mobile, can run Opera, which is just as good as iPhone's (stripped down)Safari browser. Opera even allows you to change your settings to fool webpages into thinking it's a desktop, so you can get at more content.

As for wifi, again, please do your research. Most smart phones now come with built in wifi (ex. Toshiba g900).

All of these smart phones, have a fully senstive touch screen. The entire surface area, entire resolution is availble for use by the finger. It is up to software coders to develop apps which take advantage of the extra input interface.

I have been using Resco software, which allows you to do anything with your picture. Crop, zoom, brighten, contrast...omg, all with your finger! Just use the touch screen!

Storage? How about actually putting an SD card slot in your iPhone, rather than being limited by the built in memory. If you want to give somebody else a picture, you need to hook up to a computer, or 'conveniently' email, or send a picture message ($$$).

If you want to make a point about how intuitive the interface is, please do so. If you want to compare features, then stop because we have seen everything before (yes even google maps). They created an INTERFACE, not a phone, or a set of bundled features.

Your touch screen sucks, 2 gigs vs 8 (soon to be more). Your web browser is embarrassing, and last but not least, the OS on the phone isn't even comparable.

Sorry, it's a great device, it may not have every stat imaginable compared to other devices, it wins with the touch screen (which no other phone can compare to) when tied together with the OS on the phone. It's not the winner because it has a camera and has some applications on it.

there a differece between disputing that the iPhone is a great, innovative product and disputing that it is THE INVENTION OF THE YEAR.

if that's the "invention of the year" it's been a fucking sad year!!!

Posted by Cosmic Fur on Nov-08-2007 21:06:

Sigh. Even more hype for the iPhone. w00t.

Yeah, honestly, if iPhone is best invention this year, then the second best invention must be along the lines of a redesigned Coca-Cola can.

I dun agree with the fact that iphone is the best innovation of the year...but I love my iphone

Posted by plaxx on Nov-08-2007 21:25:

Nokia e70? Are you kidding me?

I wouldn't use this brick of shit if you paid for the phone, and the bills.

You lose

Also, have you seen browsing the web on an iPhone? It's nothing like shitberry, or any other phone for that matter. Website are also making iPhone versions of thier sites, and they look just as amazing on the computer, as the iPhone (iphone.foodnetwork.com).

And yes, to top it all of, the iPhone looks fucking good, and it will only get better. You can hate Apple all you want, but when it comes down to it, their stuff looks fucking good, and people want to show it off.

yeah but it could have been soooooo much better.

i mean it is amazing. but the fact that it's locked into AT&T. plus the slower network. i mean there is lots of room for improvement and i bet the improvements will come so fast we won't even know what hit us.

You missed the point. The E70 has had almost all of the "inventions" of the iPhone a year earlier. The fact that it looks a lot worse (I agree it looks like shit) is irrelevant while we're discussing inventions. "Good Design and better marketing" is not invention, nor even innovation. It's just improving on what's already out there. Imagine if you were Edison, and you invented the lightbulb, then a few years later Steve Jobs comes along, paints your invention in "brilliant white", and wins "invention of the year", and everybody goes nuts over it. I imagine you'd be pretty pissed. People who have actually been following the cellphone technologies know that there's nothing groundbreaking (besides design) that the iPhone brings to the table over all other cellphones released previously. But people who got their cellphone for $0 through Rogers are the ones who are going apeshit over the iPhone. Apple basically cashed in on the average NA cellphone user's ignorance about what else is out there.

And if you understood anything about software standards, you'd know that "iPhone" versions of websites are actually a step backwards, not forwards. It's just another stupid web coding standard that will divide the web when we should be uniting it. We had WAP for a reason; it's fucking called Wireless Application Protocol, and it was open so that EVERYBODY had a standard by which to code their mobile websites. Now mobile web developers have to write separate code exclusively for the people who use iPhones. This is just stupid - the iPhone web standard is the equivalent of that pain-in-the-ass kid on the playground who insists that everybody should play on HIS terms, without regard for anyone else.

Time, however, has been far from on top of things for quite a while now.

Fine, the E70 may have most of the 'inventions' in the iPhone, but saying that good design (especially of a product that you will use everyday) is irrelevant is completely absurd. The fact of the matter is, Nokia have done it first, but Apple did it better. Start with the actualy physical appearance the phones, and we can both agree that E70 looks terrible, and the iPhone doesn't, right down to the actual GUI.

"Improving on whats out there". So you agree then, that Apple has done it better? Design wise, marketing wise, and actually making people want it?

In that case, Edison made a light bulb, broke it to pieces, and said "here, put it together".

Hate on the iPhone all you want, as a new G is rolled out it will be improved even to meet the most anal demands.

Honestly, tell me that you would use that piece of shit (E70) over an iPhone. If they're both sub-par with the technology, which one would you choose?

The screens are cracking from the air pressure during flights & etc.

The NES Emulator, it's on every PDA phone. No biggie

I hate the fact the iPhone's apps must be first party ... meaning only Apple can make the software for it and you have to buy it. Your paying so much already, the iPhone should have GPS. Google maps, everyone has google maps on their comp and phones.

Yes indeed it is, but it's not by TomTom. TomTom has the powerful GPS apps & maps.

Plus they might charge you per month, like Telenav.
