LOL, you know it! I don't know many people that do! And I know a lot of movie freaks!

For real? Anything from the Zucker/Abrahams trio is gold - I'm surprised that people who liked Airplane, Naked Gun, etc. wouldn't know that one.

P.S. Found it.

Superbad, Smiley Face, and Grandma's Boy are three recent movies that are absolutely hilarious.

Posted by FunkyCrew on Nov-12-2007 02:50:

any movies with Rowan Atkinson are still solid, including all Mr. Bean series, Blackadder too

Posted by kotsy on Nov-12-2007 02:50:

I disagree. I really enjoyed the comedies mentioned (Superbad, Knocked Up) along with other recent favourites (Old School, Wedding Crashers etc).

My all time favourite is still National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation though. Honorable mention goes out to Breakfast Club, Ace Ventura, Office Space, Happy Gilmore, Billy Madison, Clerks & Mallrats.

i didnt like knocked up, highschool humour.

but i have to say i fucking loved pink panther with steve martin (at least any scene without beyonce)

Every generation has its comedies and style of comedies due to whoever at the time is creating the funniest, edgiest, clever humour. Judd Apatow is the new humour guy in Hollywood, much like The Farrelly Brothers or Sandler productions back in the mid 90's, John Hughes who has been doing stuff since the 80's, Mel Brooks or the Monty Python series back before that in the 70's. When I hear people complain about recent comedies compared to the old days, it reminds me of my parents who complain about the music I listen...who dont understand it or just perfer what they watched/listened to in their young haydays.

I mean, yeah Dumb and Dumber was great, but look at what the Farrelly Brothers have made since...and tell me theyre still making better comedies than Superbad or Knocked Up, or even 40 Year Old Virgin (all of which are Judd Apatow productions).

Posted by Cosmic Fur on Nov-12-2007 04:01:

From personal experience, I've learned that any comedy advertised with red, bold lettering on a white background showing a character with a kooky face expression is utter garbage.

P.S. Anyone know why they do that? Why do ALL the comedy movie posters look like clones of each other? At least change the font color to blue or something.

Posted by Dj Smitty20 on Nov-12-2007 07:25:

the quality of *most* (keyword here) Hollywood movies has been declining since the 1990s. So called "blockbusters" are usually crap and comedies that are supposed to be funny are usually just raunchy.

Superbad was funny in parts, but essentially it was the next generation of American Pie, which was the next generation of Fast Times at Ridgemont High, etc, etc.

Most of the movies I own are from the 70s and 80s so I guess that says a lot about my tastes. I can't remember the last DVD I purchased actually.

Posted by Chris Allen on Nov-12-2007 07:29:

I'm quite disappointed with the quality of comedy movies these days too.

Just watched Good Luck Chuck, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, and Superbad, and all 3 were terrible in my opinion.

Over-hyped and turn out as shit movies.

Posted by SasH21 on Nov-12-2007 15:22:

I thought Knocked up was funny

Posted by kaniz on Nov-12-2007 15:33:

Superbad was pretty funny
Knocked Up was ok, but felt like a "Chick-Flick" version of that type of humor.

But, allot of the comedy's coming out make me cringe just watching the trailers for them.

And gah, how can anyone like The Wedding Crashers? I avoided that movie for so long, then kept having people tell me "its not as bad as you'd think", so I gave it a shot when it came to DVD

I got about 30 mins into it, and was "No, this is horrible for every reason I thought it was going to be horrible", and watched March of the Penguins instead

Posted by Silky Johnson on Nov-12-2007 15:41:

The only good "chick flick" comedy is The Sweetest Thing. Glory hole scene for the motherfucking win! Lolololol!

lol i watched it for owen wilson. love that man. he makes me laugh by just being around in a scene, much like will ferrel.

i love his persistent "aloof, absolutely carefree surfer" character.

i dont care that he always plays the same type of character in every movie he does. i love it.

did some one say 'glory hole' ??

tell me its selma blaire whos 'involved' in that scene?!

Posted by DaRoZa on Nov-12-2007 16:25:

IMO the knocked up, superbad etc. generation are pretty well done... it's the crap adam sandler, ben stiller, will farrel etc. are a part of that's just terrible compared to before

Posted by infinity HiGH on Nov-12-2007 18:26:

These stupid comedies have their some entertainment value but I'll never watch them again.

Funniest movie I've seen in a while: Thank You For Smoking

Posted by Silky Johnson on Nov-12-2007 18:28:

How could I forget Tommy Boy? And Black Sheep??

R.I.P. Chris Farley

Great comedy.

Posted by Zentac_75 on Nov-12-2007 19:37:

I find that most of the comedies that were mentioned are not funny because of the writing. It is the actors that you either find funny or not. I think Vince Vaughn/Owen Wilson/Will Ferrell have excellent delivery (that's why they play the same characters in every movie)and as such I enjoy almost every comedy they are in.

Adam Sandler I don't find so funny. Meh.

Comedies that stand out in my mind as really well written are
Fish called Wanda
Gods must be crazy
Dumb and Dumber
Anything by Monty Python
The Big Lebowski
Office Space
Shrek
Incredibles

i can't think of any really recent comedies i liked either..i always liked weed movies though hahhaa ..."harold and kumar", "half-baked", the very first "friday" movie..i thought ice cube and chris tucker were hilarious in that one...also, definitely love the old school national lampoon movies...and i do find adam sandler and ben stiller type of humour funny...first time i watched big daddy i thought it was hilarious
