Once in-line, I then bring the track in while listening to the monitor in one ear and having the headphones set to the incoming track in the other ear. When I was asking if people mixed using headphones only, I meant for mainly beatmatching.

Tiesto style man

see what i mean

I use whatever I need to get the job done and hear what I need to hear.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I do too. It seems like you can stay focused on the mix more if you use both phones and monitors.

they work very well, at least the better models, on low and constant noises. On planes for example, they work great for the engine noise, but for music, with irregular noise, and more than just low rumbles, I doubt they'd work anywhere near as well.

still would be good if they did, to be able to have the headphone levels lower instead of cranked to overcome outside noise would save a lot of people's hearing

I mean really...what the fuck is it with all these retards and their "mixing modes"

Be versatile, adapt to conditions at hand because lord knows they're never the same, even in your own bedroom...

Maybe some have preference between those mixing mode and this is what this thread is about. Don't just post some cool, well written answer that doesn't even add shit to the thread.

Yeah but you cant possibly just stick to the same fucking thing in every situation, that doesn't make any sense. My reply made sense and it addressed the point of the thread...The truth is, theres no right answer to this thread, as you said, everyone has their own preference and those preferences probably change given the myriad different conditions any DJ will inevitably end up playing in.

i mix on the edge. no headphones and no monitors.

Posted by trance-ecj on Nov-14-2007 02:48:

i refuse to mix using monitors. when i get into the booth, the very first thing i do is turn the volume of the booth monitors all the way down.

the only way im positive nothing is off is monitoring in my headphones.

Iv learned to trust what i hear in the phones and not what i "think" is happening on the dance floor.

so many times people tell me stories about how they think they're on with beat matching only to find out it sounded terrible on the floor.

iv been mixing for years using only the headphones and not once had a situation where i thought something sounded good in the headphones and not on the dance floor, but before i started doing that, there were plenty of times where i thought everything was fine in the booth (using monitors) and it wasn't on the floor.

I just pop in my fav dj's latest essential mix mp3 and then pretend I'm doing all the work. Even to the point of lip synching pete tong's commentaries.

er.. the setup in my bedroom doesn't exactly change much on a daily basis and i can't recall an occasion where i've not been able to headphone mix with it for whatever reason

somehow the sound coming from the speakers is realy different from what u are listening in the headphones.
