i dont mind ribcage. cool song. Roadkill not so much.

He's not bad or anything, but there's just better tech house out there

Certainly much credit to his attempts at putting further distance between him and "Dubfire of Deep Dish." But as others have more or less pointed out, his sound just further popularizes an already done-to-death style. His productions are by no means terrible, but I haven't found much that was particularly ingenious about them (though I admittedly haven't listened to as much of his stuff as I probably should have). He's not traveling down a road that a number of his peers haven't already been through, but it's probably just due to his status as "Dubfire" that welcomes him and his tracks into the popular fold. Aside from this, the way I feel about him is essentially the same as I felt about his GU: Generally flat, occasionally enjoyable, but not really warranting a second listen.

Also, this comment has really, really driven me nuts since I read it...

So, producers, I really like . . . Dubfire, one half of Deep Dish, is suddenly making really cool underground music. Deep Dish was very commercial for a while, but at the moment Dubfire is cool.

Why, Lee? Why?

So he likes Dubfire, at least at the moment: no problem with that. He's simply saying that he thinks Dubfire is pretty cool right now, which stands in contrast to the sentiment that Syknonee outlined about him being the "newest, most MAXIMAL minimal producer on the planet right now." I actually rather like Lee's comments: "he's cool." Sounds okay to me.

I don't like it when I see some of my favorite DJ's "really like" shit producers and shit tracks.

This thread has as much value as a "What's-up-with-Britney?" discussion.

Now Dubfire is nothing special, but honestly have you ever actually listened to any of the sets you do? You drop more nuggets than any other TA dj I know and tracks that are loliliscious. AT leeast Burridge can make a decent transition.

*wait for rjt to write an essay about how much better his tastes are than everyone when he should really be spending that time learning to beatmatch.*

No essay m8. I don't make it a habit to worry too much when the alt's start crawling out of the woodwork

You take care.

what happened to the self proclaimed "im the biggest asshole on ta" ?

well since you are being so nice here:

http://www.atomixmp3.com/

it couldnt get worse either way at least it will fuck up transitions for you and you can have an excuse.

That's all fine and well for me, but what excuse will you have for creating alt after alt to do nothing better than try to rile someone up on the internet?

Posted by nsamadi on Nov-14-2007 04:35:

I like RibCage..whenever I listen to it, it's sounds like a Boeing 747 trying to take off..the buildup is crazy...and then the track finally explodes...Love it.

One of the "Roadkill" (but REALLY dislike the original) remixes was also good...besides that...yeah...I think his productions aren't that great..and not a huge fan of him as a DJ.

maybe...if you only listened to it in your bedroom

when played right live on a tight sound system though, this track and the remix of transit time f*cking killed it this summer, almost nothing else made the crowd explode as much...no other remix of roadkill has the same effect, in my experience

and to play devil's advocate some more, while it's arguable that dubfire's just copying the style that's popular now, blah blah blah, the experiences i've had this past summer associated with these tracks make them 2 of my favorites of the year

What's next? "You can't comment unless you make something better" or "it works really well as a DJ tool"?

Sensory overload and good music are not the same thing.
