| yeah hanh out with us..we live about 30miles south of leeds..keep posting on here..and your bound to meet up with us when out clubbing etc! |
whatever else??
England's not an expensive place, for some things.
We're a total rip off for petrol, computers, cars, and a lot of expensive things. As for clubbing, we're like most countries. Some cities (eg London) will rob you of all your money before you're drunk. Other areas like the North East have several all-you-can-drink nightclubs, and one nightclub near me (it's on a boat with a revolving dancefloor, but plays cheesy music) does 20p a pint on Monday. That's cheaper than water! So it all depends where you go. And I guess, like any country, the big clubs with the big DJs will charge you more - they have to.
Leeds definitely has a good nightlife (excluding trance) from what I've heard. They have Sundissential, which is a big hard house club with world class DJs every week. It is also well located, since it's fairly close (within 100 miles) of all the major clubbing areas of Britain I would say. Newcastle, Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield, they all have good scenes outside of trance.
Technically, pills are cheaper than getting drunk, at least at first they are. I have been offered pills as low as 2, but usually get offered them around 5. I was once offered (yes I get offered them a lot for some reason, but rarely ask) for 15 for one! I told him where to go. Obviously, if you take them regularly, they'll have less effect on you, and your tolerance levels will increase. That's bad news on the wallet unfortunately. I'm not too into pills, only if I'm skint (I prefer to get drunk), so you're probably best off speaking to someone like DuMonde Trancer, he seems to know his cakes!
As for how much someone spends on a night out, it's a difficult question. Do you mean drinking? Do you mean a night out where you go to about 15 bars, get slaughtered, then go to a club, or a night out where you spend the whole night in a good trance club listening to big name DJs? Do you mean with pills or with beer? It's a hard one to answer. The all-you-can-drink nights for example are usually at cheesy clubs, and are a midweek night. They fill up ebcause they're cheap (they get packed) but the city doesn't. The one on the boat in Newcastle is on a thursday night for example.
Call me a cheapskate, but I always ask what the prices are before I buy if I'm in a city centre. Saves you getting royally ripped off.
If you want an example of club admission, I'll give you a couple of examples.
Let's assume you're going to Crasher in Sheffield. One of the best weekly trance nights in the world. It will go monthly in June, which is sad, but they claim it'll be much better too. It will probably become the best regular trance night in the world, although I've never been (the other'll fill you in on it).
If it's your first time taking cakes, 1 should be enough (many people just bite it in half and have half their first time). Let's assume you get a pill for 5.
Crasher is on from 9 till 6 every week, so unless you're really fussed about an afterparty and you're on cakes not beer, the only other price to add is entrance.
It costs 12.50 before 10:30 p.m on an average night. That's not really a rip-off considering that this Friday for that price you get: DUMONDE (4HR SET) / MATT HARDWICK / EDDIE HALLIWELL. The week after they have: FERRY CORSTEN (3HR SET) / MIKE (PUSH) (3HR SET) / DANIEL BAILEY / NICK RILEY And after that they have: PAUL OAKENFOLD / MARCO V / MATT HARDWICK / NICK RILEY.
12.50 for that is a good deal IMO. I just wish I lived closer to Crasher!
So altogether you're talking under 20 quid for a night at Crasher. Travelling costs are another matter. The train will probably be a rip-off but Crasher do coaches which take you from Leeds to Crasher, include your entrance fee, and take you back for under 30.
That's one of the most expensive weekly nights in the country, so regular events won't cost much more.
As for big events, they're another story. 30 entrance fee is what we all paid for Godskitchen in Newcastle, and I think the NEC was about 40 entrance. A hefty price, but you're paying to see some of the best lineups in the world, so it's expected I suppose.
If you keep your wits about you and plan you journies, you shouldn't get ripped off too badly.
Shit I just realised how much I typed. Spose I've got nowt else to do on a Thursday morning

If I'm buying for a lass it's: "got any specials on?"
Yeah the 15 was at the Dome. Some tosser shook my hand, as thousands of people were on midnight (better than listening to Mr Pearce) and then asked if I wanted any pills. He was like "15" with a serious face. I didn't know whether to laugh or punch him, but then again it's probably the London prices.
There's a few hours of that night I can't account for I was well hammered. The people I went with (friends of a friend, cos I couldn't find anyone else to go with) were Southerners, from Kent and London. They left at half past fucking six. I was left on my own, completely lashed, in London at a 50,000 man rave, so I just stayed near the front in the main crowd. I ended up talking to some South African lass, who I spent the rest of the morning with getting royally lashed on Scotch.
inside a club u will almost certainly be paying 5er for a pill, unless you are at a big event thats got highish security, in which case they can be upwards of 8 quid, or if the dealers eeds to get rid of a last few or if u know sum1 whose knows sum1 sorta then u may get discount, average prices around 3 quid in that situation. n pills r still cheaper than getting drunk for me, even if i pay fiver a timne, coz i used to spend like 25-30 on drink on a night out back in the day!
n yeh on ur first time half is good, or u will have a bad comedown/go mental for a day like gibbo did
i had a full one first time n didnt ave any bad effects for me but i think i was just lucky!
as for crasher nights, i on avarage spend about 50, that is, normally 28.50 for the coach to get there (i live far away!) and the ticket price. then 15 quid for 3 pills, i dont think ive ever had them cheap in a club!
then of course a couple of quid for water and lollys pops or whatever (to quell the gurning!
)!
of coruse the chesterfieldians probs spend less coz its the travel costs that usually make it expensive. other than that for 9-6 with top lineups its defo's worth it! even it 50 quid for the whole night in my opinion!
I went down with a few mates ALEX!!
Got on the NATIONAL EXPRESS from BORO BUS STATION (the bus had already been to geordie land) sat on the coach, fuck all people on it, read ministry mag and a few mix mags, had a few cans (wernt allowed, but who gives a shit) and before i knew it we were in GRENWICH cos we were having a laugh and spreading out on the coach so it seemed to take no time.
Stayed above this very big pub in GRENWICH, went out into the town which was fuckin shite cos it seemed like all the southerners had forgotten it was New Years Eve!!! For fuck SAKE!!!!
The walked to the dome, waited a bit to get in, got in and my eyes almost fell out when i realised the size of the place, got my telescope out
and found the MAIN STAGE where i found DAVE PENISplaying, so i went for some bottles, found out the bar was like a fuckin RUGBY SCRUM, so i got 10, shoved em in me pockets and supped them sharpish.
You saud u talked to some SOITH AFRICAN lass, was it me, or was there more people from everywhere else rather than from LONDON????
Totally!
First person I asked for direction from was deaf! The second was Russian! The third was German! I shit you not. The Russian barely spoke any English (he sounded Russian) and the German didn't know where the fuck to direct me.
When I got to the guy's house and got the train back up to Charing Cross from south east London, everyone on the train was black except me. I sort of know how they feel in all-white areas like here now!
This South African lass was hot, but it may have just been me beer goggles. I lost her in the end. I think I ruined it cost I just go mashed on Scotch I was all over the place! I had loads of drinks tokens cos the lads that left gave me theirs! I was fucking rolling in drinks tokens!
When the others left I said my good-byes and head straight back to a random spot in the crowd, next to the fittest lass I could find. She asked me who was playing I said Tiesto. Before I knew it we were at the champagne bar wasting those tokens. Of course, for every one she had I had about 3, and I'd already been drinking like a fish all the day before, all night and all morning.
Has to be one of the best nights I ever had. It was class the way the sun just shone right through the Dome. This lass in front of me had a hypothermia blanket and there's me in a t-shirt.
I agree someone should have reminded them it was new years eve. A few cockneys on the train were a bit mashed at about 4 in the afternoon, but not too badly. This lass we were with left at 12:30! After paying 50 for her ticket! She gave us her drinks tokens she'd queued for (she felt ill) so we divvied them up between us.

That'll be the BEER JACKET you were wearing aswell then acompanied by the BEER GOGGLES. I got home on my BEER SCOOTER (cos i idin't have clue where i was staying) using my BEER COMPASS.
Yeah beer goggles, beer jacket, beer compass. I was well prepared
I hope they have it again this year. Apparently the reason the sound system wasn't thumping was because of strict laws on the Thames for noise levels. Being in an awkward location, they got affected.
If it's on this year I'm definitely going. I just wish someone better than Ministry would organise it.
Yeah, i've recruited some more troops (me mates) to come this year if it goes ahead. There's no reason why it shouldn't of they said they made millions!!
I'll be there!!! Same method of travell aswell. Me brother who can with me was going to drive down but it's worth it with parking and cost. For me the NATIONAL EXPRESS was far better than the train, trains are hassle, and these days you don't know what your going to get with them!
I got the coach, on my feckin own as well both ways. Cheaper than the train, but bloody long.
I might fly this time
Go airways fly to London for 15, and the same back, if you get one of those shitty early morning middle of the week flights. The coach cost me 35 return, so flying woulda been better. I think they go from Tesside as well as Newcastle.
Only problem is, Stansted is a long way out of London aparently, so you need a long bus ride into London.

Hmmmm...I'm pleased that it doesn't sound too expensive..if you're careful. I think I'll have to risk looking like a cheapskate sometimes by asking prices. I'm not a big pill popper so I won't have to worry about it. 2 pounds for a pill is fucking cheap! But 8 pounds woiuld be the same as here in canada since we'd pay about 20 dollars which is about 8 pounds. I suppose cheap pints is where it's at...and I suppose all the best deals on beer will be on the domestic stuff, which is why I'm there...like, why the fuck would I go to England to pay 3 pounds for a bottle of Budwiser!?!? I remember seeing all these people in England paying enormous prices for that shitty american beer...when you have such a selection of other great beers!
Another thing I'm pleased about is the public transit in England. IN Canada and America you cannot go anywhere if you don't have a car. #1 our countries are huge and #2 our infrastructure is inferior and #3 gas and cars are so much cheaper so even the biggest welfare bum can still afford a car.
I need to make it to London Stansted airport on the 9th of May. ANybody know the cheapest route via plane, train or coach??
Thanks
I'm coming from Leeds
