-- Who hasn't been to a Rave???

it really depends on how you define a rave..
a line-up of DJs on an all-night party of 2000+ people? not in a club but outside or in a warehouse? illegal?
anyhow.. I remember a party in Europe, on a secluded beach, set-up sound and light system, 7 DJs, 3500 people, 1am-8am.. it was techno and hard house all night.. but it was pure madness, we went swimming around 6ish.. awesome experience.
But I haven't been to any real raves in Toronto 'cause they banned them when I started going (well, when I moved out of home and was allowed to stay out all night
)
Ive been to some pretty good raves and a few no so well organized ones. They are pretty good, but the scene in calgary is ruled by a bylaw, therefore, prices for tix are way up than before. Ive never been to a club though, however i have heard that there are more drugs and not enough women there. The raves here play a lot of hard house, which im pretty sick of, but do enjoy it once in a while when im in the mood. Otherwise, calgary is a pretty housy city.
DjShockwave: are you talking about defstar, honey productions, eternal, or katalyst?? what was the name of the party?
i was talking about boodang
a friend spins for them... DEcks
he wants me to finish my demo so he can give a copy to his bosses
No offense but wayyyy to many younguns. I cant just go and drink and chill and listen to music I gotta have 16 year olds who can barely drive poppin drugs and F in it up for the rest of the people who are really there to just let the music roll over them and be tranced out with friends. Too much people goin for a little action instead of reactin to the music. I get pissed when a rave gets shut down at 2 am because of too much drug use. If you are gonna be messed up outta your mind go sit in your room with a black light and a radio. People now think oh you listen to techno? Do you do drugs? The music is the drug. You shouldnt need anything else to trip your mind out on a journey. [/rant] *eyes come back into focus* sorry I go a little crazy some times. ![]()
Man when you think of a rave dont think about a stinky warehouse party. Our raves in vancouver are head al convention centers with thousands and thousands of people. If your image of a rave comes from the TV then you got to check out a real massive.
So much more fun partying untill 9am instead of the music ending at 2am.
Oh and the mainstage always has Trance and Hard House headliners
I've also never been to a rave
But im gonna go to several for sure this summer w00t w00t
So i have a questin then having never been to a rave (went and saw PVD and BT last december but it was commercial and not really what i would consider a rave) or experimented with drugs. What is the deal with the pacifiers?
No offense but I think a lot of people don't even know what a rave is. Large organised parties are not raves, if it's legal it's not a rave.
I've only been to one party I'd class as a rave. One night after Slinky we were told to go to a Little Chef resteraunt just off a motorway leading out of Dorset. When we got there we found it backed into a forest and was right in the middle of nowhere. Some guys had set up a soundsystem in the kiddies playground
. By the time we started clearing up at 6am about 70 people (a small crowd for a rave but still
) had turned up, needless to say the manager of the Little Chef wasn't best pleased when he turned up and he called the police, but by the time they got there we'd all had a tidy up and cleared off. That was a quality night
The funny thing was, there was also a petrol station attached to the site and it was 24hr, the guy working in it was sound as fuck and kept filling up buckets of water for everybody to fill their bottles from.
Ah how I wish I did the rave scene when it was at it's peak in the UK. But I was too young then and into Nirvana
Jimykik: it varies. For some they're just part of the cyberkid or candykid (not the same thing) outfit, others use them to stop themselves biting their mouth to shreds when on pills/speed/other stimulents. It works better than chewing gum because gum may help with the mouth-biting but always gives me one ****** of a sore jaw in the morning. I think for most, it's a combination of both.

) get shut down becaue of drugs... I see a definite trend here in the Old US of A to stop allowing what they consider to be raves because from their view point its a drug convention, and they arent that far wrong. Cept pot of course "man you in here for some marijuana!? thats not a drug!" "yeah I used to suck dick for coke, you ever sucked dick for marijuana?"

Hmmm, the raves I've been to down here haven't involved TOO many wasted kiddies. The fact that most parties here are strictly over-18s helps. Of course, you're gonna get those that decide to swallow a whole pharmacy at once, and then they're one with the pavement, but that's their prerogative. Most people, it seems, use substances to enhance their nite, not so they forget it.
The pacifier is used to focus the jaw clenching onto something other than one's tongue. Gum is good, but I dislocated my jaw last time
Chewing too much. Magnesium, I've heard, is better.

Wish I was doing the rave scene then
Thanks for the info Spad. Very helpful . And i agree with you on the whole classification of a rave. The live sets like ultra or NEC are not really raves.

makes me wonder if you know how big Europe is? I'd like to know where that party was
One guy was so fucked he walked straight thru the fire
Nuttin happened tho...
why do ppl think that big parties = raves..?
its not true!
i myself have never been to a rave, mainly because by the time i was old enough to get into it there was hardly any raves left... all the ones that happen now are usually in the south of the country and i unfortunatly live in the north...
as spad said, the rave scene is virtually dead in the UK now... the main reason being that we can do the same as what they did at raves in a nice warm club, with a 200% better sound system
now gatcerasher is going monthly, i think we may need to revive the old ways... gatecrasher started off as a rave back in the days when you had to be 18 to buy house music

I haven't got a chance to read the entire post but it seems like a lot of you here are mixing up a club party with raves.
A remember going to my very first rave a long time ago. We had to call this number and we didn't know where the venue was until the day of the event in fear that it will be busted by the cops. When we got there, it was at some old abandoned warehouse in the middle of some industrial area. There was only one washroom which only fit 2 people and the lineup went on for miles. The place was dirty, and the party was obviously illegal.
But one thing I noticed was that everyone was incredibly friendly. LOL. Some friends took me there and I had no idea what to expect. Some random guy came up to me and asked me if I wanted to go into the washroom with him
To this day I'm still not quite sure what that meant by that.
But yeah, I think true raves died out a while ago. I wish I could go back in time because at that time I didn't know how to truly enjoy the event and soak up the atmosphere. These girls tried to get me to try out some E, but at that time I was so vehemently against drugs. Now, it's laughable when I think about it.
Over here in Finland, there are plenty of illegal parties. In the summer, the hippies have their forest parties (with extremely weird finnish psychedelic trance..) on just about any weekend, but you have to know people to find them
There are also a couple of illegal allnight indoor parties in Helsinki, these are usually entry with a flyer only (because then the organizers can say its not a public happening and if no alcohol is sold, the police usually just tell people to turn the volume down).
The drug use is a bit higher than in legal club events, but the fact that these go on all night might have something to do with it too.. I dont consider it all that extreme, I dont think most people do generally more than 3-4 pills a weekend..
I'm surprised how many havent gone to one, but I guess it's different all over the world.
I've been to about 6 since 1999, and they rule!
Or at least the ones in South Africa did.
Top notch line-ups, incredible venues and no less than 12 hours of Trance House/Hard House/Funky House bliss.
Whatever your flavour, they could cater
