His newer stuff is alright, but I think I prefer his older style which didn't include so much electro and tech house (if it's tech house?)... Just pure techno.

The atmosphere is hilarous indeed, but I'm struggling to find any similar tracks .

Well, I'm into his new style for a while, so I like his new stuff a lot. However, I saw him few months ago at his Oldies Goldies session, and he was spinning pure techno like he was spinning few years ago...
I'm still big fan of "Torture Chamber vol.2 mix". Plenty of good stuff there.

Posted by Yohan on Nov-21-2007 18:54:

Just some I really groove to

Cave - Skolopender
Cave - Speleon (Ben Sims remix)
Bryant Baker - Red Bull
Hertz - Big Bang (Bryan Cox remix)
Killian - Overwhelming (Valentino Kanzyani remix)
Mauro Picotto - Pandora
Max Walder - Orbit
Preach - Amnesia
Glider & Wave - Coffee
Boriqua Tribez - Stella

Hard banging techno FTW

Posted by Omega_M on Nov-21-2007 18:59:

I know many people still like hard banging techno (including myself). But I don't see many live sets out there with people playing this kind of stuff. Why is that ? Most of the techno sets that I hear are minimal and I don't like them at all.

Cos it's easier to stand in the bar and chill to/do social networking to/it's more "sophisticated" and "cool" than stupid banging rave music etc. etc.

Of course, another reason is that banging perc loop-techno a la Marco Bailey and Umek in 2002-3 was starting to grow very stale.

Posted by nicokick_89 on Nov-21-2007 19:16:

Some favs:

Cave - Street Carnival
Mauro Picotto - Awesome
Mauro Picotto - Verdi
Westwood Bros. - Pulse Imperium
Adam Beyer & Henrik B - Kushido
Adam Beyer - Active
Thomas Krome - Bitches from hell

It's true. Most of the Djs that used to spin that kind of techno, today spin minimal... Well, as I read, they have that same feeling they have years ago when whole techno movement started to grow. Also, they say that there are plenty of ways of improving their "minimal" sound, new horizonts or something like that. I don't like that trend at all, but there are some guys who spins that "old" techno like Ortin Cam, Cave, Dave the Drummer, Reaky, Axel Karakasis, Mike Humphries, Ben Sims... So it's not dead yet. But guys like Beyer, Mull, Kanzyani, Umek, Bailey, Picotto, Carola went minimal

Posted by Yohan on Nov-21-2007 19:39:

Dave the Drummer also does tech house ish electro ish techno, though under different alias.

I'm very disappointed that Preach went the way of fluffy trance for most part.

Ok, but that doesn't mean that people have stopped listening to hard banging techno. Psy trance probably doesn't sound cool in a bar nor is it appropriate to do social networking unless you are a druggie . But that doesn't mean that people have stopped producing it. I don't think the sounds of 2002-03 are stale. Subjective opinion ofcourse, but I totally think the current minimal sound is pure shite. And I'm sure there are a lot of people who think like this. Also, many people go through phases of listening to different types of musics. Maybe people who appreciate the minimal stuff have listened to a lot of EDM over a number of years and want something new. But there are people who are fairly new to this whole scene and still find the 2002 sounds fresh. Or people who still love the 2002 sounds over whatever is being played now. My 2 cents.

Yep, he said that he's playing two different styles now: techno/acid techno and electro house/minimal... He uses "Henry Cullen" alias while playing minimal/electro house, as he said: "THAT IS THE NAME I AM NOW GOING UNDER FOR MUTATE TO SURVIVE". All of "Dave the Drummer" sets I have are pretty banging
