tho I don't remember last time I shoped in .99 store. too ghetto for my suburbanite white elitist taste. Besides, last time I was ejected from .99 store for walking in with my Starbucks Caramel Venti Latte and Panera Bread sandwich. They sooo totally hate it when you're showing off!

You guys bitch and complain on a normal weekend so I can imagine why you are upset @ Black Friday.

I love shopping. Nothing really pisses me off because I know this time of the year is crazy.

I love the thrill of going shopping for close friends and family. If I wasn't getting paid this coming Monday, you bet your ass I'll be up early going shopping! Or sometimes I just wait till after X-mas because things go waaaay down in price.

Either way.. you got internet anger issues lol.

You sooooooo totally missed the point. I'm not mad at people who do it. I fell bad for them, really. Dunno, maybe you're right. Maybe some people don't even care that much about the deals, as it is an event for them - some kind of an emotional "out" that needs to be experienced once a year, a certain feel of challenge and subsequent victory... Something that gives pleasure at the thought that "Yeah, not only i got a deal on it but I also beat 9000 other suckers who were clamoring for it! The irony is that many people who do camp out in front of the store, find out about the specials online, yet have no time to research the true value of the items they have earmarked for purchase. Of course, you can't expect everyone to be an on-line shopper, that's where retailers like BB come in. However, what's to stop them from offering similar deals all year long? Sure, they won't make 50% profit... but you figure they'd most likely make up for it in volume if they offered NON-BLACK-FRIDAY deals. No?

HAHA! No, I think you missed the point. Read your posts over again, you're getting angry and not in the "I feel bad for people" way. You're angry, for no reason. Maybe you're upset because that item you bought last week, will now be 60% less, who knows. It's not an "event" or some "emotional out" it's fuckin' shopping for the holidays( more ro less). I'd much rather shop on a day like that for cheaper deals when I have a lot of people to shop for rather than wait on a normal week-end and spend grands more. What makes you think people are going to prance around with their items and rub it in peoples faces that they spent omgsomuchless?

Gee I never thought about it that way. We build about 20,000 washers/day based on demand. So yeah, I'm going to guess that there are probably one or two people who will need a washer & dryer and would like that deal.

Buying online is always great but you have to know exactly what to get that person in order to buy online.

Sometimes I need to do a little shopping (even through out all the madness) and then be like "hey that would be perfect for [insert name here]" Then you find out it's on sale.. It's great!! Saving any money is better then not saving! Especially for ppl like me who have a tough time saving

Wouldn't it make more sense to call it Red Friday instead of White Friday? Since the reason they call it Black Friday is because this is traditionally the day that shopping season begins and retailers move from red (loss) to black (profit).

That was not the point of my statement. I didn't say there was no demand for product. We were discussing deals and their significance. No need to draw conclusions which aren't there.

Americans have long associated "red" with "communist" - it would be a major PR disaster. There's no way the Evil Corp. is willing to risk profits on some silly logic.

If you want a deal then you should go to Best Buy on Friday! They've also got a top-load pair for $499. I would have to agree with OP here. People that go out of their way to get those "door buster" deals are suckers. I saw a couple of things that I wanted on circuit city black friday ad and noticed some really kick ass prices. Then I realized that the items were made by some shitty off brand.

Black Friday works on the basis of stores luring in customers with highly discounted items in hopes that the customer will buy other products aka early christmas shopping etc.

Have not followed the trend in the last couple years ( not in the US anymore ) but I know for a fact that a fair sum of products that are highly advertised are sold at a loss.

the Apex DVD/CD Player : $29.87 that caused plenty of fights in Walmart stores was sold with a 10 dollar loss for the store.

yep. it's even more exaggerated, though. example from the store I'm at now:

this past saturday, we made about $60k in profit.

black friday last year, we lost $981 for the day.
