Oh, so that is off beat bassline. Thanks

Posted by Taz on Jun-11-2002 03:31:

Actually that's upside down - it's supposed to be kick-Bass-kick-Bass, not the other way round. Mind you, Bud The Spud by Stompin' Tom Connors has bass-Kick-bass-Kick. (If you don't know who that is, just ask a Canadian.)

it's all about the hoover. *stomp*

It is always good to know some basic bass-lines

Posted by Tom_cowan on Aug-18-2002 12:00:

A "bubling" bass, like the once already sugested(the ones with notes on the 1/16th) are sweet for an uplifting trance tune but the kick-bass-kick-bass type still has its place. U wont hear a bubling bass on a dirty scot project tune! You just gota make the bass that suits the tune.

Lange - Drifting Away sequence

I havn't used an offbeat bass pattern for ages now - it just sounds cheap to me.
However, it can sound good if layered with other different bass patterns

Posted by Massive84 on Mar-14-2004 17:53:

good baseline is almost half of your track imo, i really love baselines if they have good drive..

Posted by DJ-Fuq on Mar-14-2004 18:06:

Blue notes = kick, green = bassline
Make sure amp velocity is at max in ur synth, and some on the filter is needed too. This is the bassline from the original mix of pressure and sounds great.

So there have been a few examples of Ferry and AvB style "bubbly" basslines. How do you do a thick G&D style of rolling bassline, something more for the proggy sound?

Posted by djkoso on Mar-14-2004 19:43:

great basslines !!

Posted by MrCowski on Mar-14-2004 21:04:

My personal favorite "rolling" bass is:

k---k---k---k---
-xXx-Xxx-xXx-xxX
Capital is one octive higher

for a harder sound, use the following notes:

x - C (or any note)
Y - C# (or any note one higher)

-xXx-Xxx-xXx-yyY

Keep em comming

Posted by Bruchpilot on Mar-14-2004 21:35:

my favorit at the moment is:
k---k---k---k---
-yxx-yxx-yxx-yxx

x=normal bassline-octave
y=one octave deeper

sound example:

Be Cool!

Great topic

Personally i use the kick - bass method the most.
Although im still trying to get a better bass pattern

Posted by brian on Mar-16-2004 23:44:

What a delightfully useful thread!! Thanks to those posting bassline patterns...very helpful.

Posted by MrCowski on Mar-17-2004 05:14:

few random more:

The tripple oompa, as I call it:
k---k---k---k---
-x-x--x--x-x--x-

or, octaved:
k---k---k---k---
-xyx-yxy-xyx-yxy
y is one octave lower

Also:
k---k---k---k---
-yxx-yxx-yxx-yxx

or
k---k---k---k---
yyxxyyxxyyxxyyxx
though that can be muddy
