Hell, I work with the competition, but even i can acknowledge that they've had some great names come through there.

Guy Gerber

Guy Gerber was unbelievable. It was my only time at the club, and I was very impressed by the space though I didn't venture out of the Skyy Vodka Bar (not sure if that's the proper name of the room).

REMEMBER PLS!!!!

Dont bash on Circa until you understand whats going on ...

They are on a 90 day probations for their Liquored License. They got to take it easy until that has finally passed. With any reasons and facts, the city and the condo board will revoke their license. Did you guys notice about that shooting awhile ago that was kinda near Circa? *Which has nothing to do with Circa at all, their lawyers were down there with the cops non stop and with every step of the investigation to prove that has nothing to do with them* I admire that a lot, trust me on this, they are PROs!

Once the probation is over, the bookings will come and trust me on this they will bring out all the best acts. They got some serious booking agents as well.

I predict I won't make my first CiRCA visit until Summer time.

I don't know if it's that I'm reluctant to give it a chance or if I'm just extremely loyal to Guvy.

Thanks for bringing us the facts dude. Makes sense!

Pretty lame that the AGCO are trying to cripple them like this. Obviously it isn't working due to some investors with deep pockets and patience.

Well, I was at Circa for Guy Gerber as well. It was a fun night, even though it wasn't exactly my musical preference, but the vibe was really nice. The actual design of the club was great, but the crowd was kinda trashy. Most likely I will come back, but it's not like I am going to spend my every weekend there. And, yes, I agree, they need to bring more DJs in there...and the ones that I like..But, I think it's a club more on a commercial level, and most likely they won't bring any DJs that are not known to the public much, but only to people who are in the scene.

Can't wait for that...

This is going to be his third time here this year, compared to 2006 when he did not come at all!

The probation is really handcuffing things...can't wait until it's over...

I dunno, maybe he was having an off night - but last time he played at Sonic I thought he was fucking awful. He was also hyped up being belief from a few friends of mine, so that might have had something to do with it as well.

Well, he is an amazing producer and an amazing DJ. I don't think he played that well either, I do agree with you there. My friends and I thought he was really flat that night, and I think the next day he was playing a big party in New York, so he was saving his energy for that event.

He's really monotone in the booth tho. And you really, really, really have to be able to deal with all the gay men. But if you can overlook those two issues, you can enjoy him as much as I do...he ripped it up at the Gay Pride closing party...

I might be spinning there For one night though, and it's a maybe right now trainwrecking ftw

Rauhoffer was also amazing at Bal en Blanc 2006.

What does probation have to do with the talent?

If they cannot throw a big party now, what will change in the future?

Are you guys saying that brining in big talent, will bring in different people, bigger party animals, who are more likely to cause trouble?

I think that's bullshit. Supposing that it is more draining on you to play well versus playing mediocre, which is arguable in the first place. It's not like he's moving bricks around - to professional DJs, putting on a set should be pretty much second nature; and should not be excused anyway - there are other professions that require you to put in 100% every time. Mainly though, I think it's reflects badly on his character if he willfully didn't try to put on a good set because he was saving himself for New York. If he wanted to save his energy for New York, he shouldn't have booked the Toronto gig in the first place. There's no reason the people in Toronto should get less for their money than the people in New York when they paid to go see him. Leaves a bad impression on him if he's willing to disappoint his fans in order to get more moolah. Finally, it looks bad on you if you're making up "valid" excuses on his behalf - he's not a god, why do you feel you need to make up excuses for his poor performance?

/general rant, not directly aimed at you, as this is not the first time I've come across people excusing the DJs they paid good money for, for one reason or another.

Seriously, who cares if they don't bring in the headliners!

Why can't some of you people just go out for a good time and experience something new for once?
Why does it have to be a big time DJ that pulls you off your judgemental armchair?

What if your idea of a good time doesn't include listening to House music while being surrounded by "fashionable" try-hards? Not that bringing in a headliner will necessarily get rid of the scenesters, but at least then I'd have the music to focus on so I could ignore them.

I agree 100%...that being said...all I've heard about Circa is that its just another house music club that caters to a crowd I don't like.....I admit I haven't been to the club but I could care less if the club is built out of gold or built out of soggy sponges....its the music that will bring me back and not what the club looks like. Hopefully I will get a chance to go sometime...but probably not until summer when work is a little less crazy.

I admit I haven't been but the fact I haven't been there means nothing on the fact that it will get closed down......the city doesn't want it there and the city will find a way to get rid of it....the better it does and the more people it brings into the area just creates a better chance the city will find a reason to close the doors.

I can only speak for myself, but for me it's not all that different. The musical talent is what makes a night for me, and well, I'm tired of hear the same locals, week in and week out.

The club decor won't change why I go out, to listen to music. No matter where I go, it's the same people, same music, same formula.

Some of us are just looking/waiting for a reason to go to Circa, as they were supposed to have brought in different/new talent with their new decor and design. All we are asking is for Circa to give us a reason to go, which is a positive imo, as we are more than open to the idea.

The only places that have really stuck out in my mind over the years are Footwork and the old Boa. Guv gets an honorable mention with its big room, big party, multi-room events.

+1, not to mention that music has the capability to be drastically different, while the club decor does not. It seems somewhat silly to want go to Circa just for its decor/experience, and not the music itself - its decor will be the same on any given weekend, but the music aspect is what has the potential to be different, so it's perfetly natural to want to wait for GOOD music in order to check out the decor.
