kind of like a measure of how much moisture is in the air

Posted by _Nut_ on Dec-16-2007 02:11:

Easy thing to think about.

Dew point is 55
Outside temp is 60

If the air cools down to 55 (assuming the dew point stays the same) condensation will occur from the water vapor in the air.

Think of Fog. Temps are at or within a degree of the dewpoint when fog happens.

In a cloud the temperature is the same as the dew point. Outside of the cloud the temperature is higher than the dew point.

I bleeve it's the temperature at which water vapor condenses into water.

Posted by Omega_M on Dec-16-2007 02:16:

k...but things get a bit foggy when it's raining outside AND they mention a dew point which is different from the ambient temperature.

Edit: The data that I posted does have a dew point = ambient temperature. But I think it's just coincidence. The dew point was 39.0 even when the temperature was like 45 F.

you previously stated that temp/dewpoint were both 39F. and you were at 100% humidity. so....

Only 2.3? Up in Dekalb all the snow is stacking on top of 2 previous snow showers we had. I would say theres easily 5 in. on the ground here. shows how lake michigan differentiates the weather throughout IL.

It was 2.3 @ 715. I am going out at 1115 for the next observation.

But as for lake michigan playing with this weather system.. it didnt. It all has to deal with the track of the low and a deformation zone where snow was prevalent as the low pressure system tracks. Yes LM does mess with some weather, it did nothing with this one. I am sure we are at 4ish now... perhaps more. I could go out an measure but I feel like enjoying some beer and NIN for the time being.
