fuck, what a bunch of whining fags some of you are.

and you jules, you don't even like uplifting trance so why would you give a fuck about the ASOT list(s)? you don't see me wading into a prog radio show poll and complaining about the lack of good trance.

the sunlight and big sky are two great fucking tunes, certainly not cheesy by uplifting trance standards.

try filling a weekly 2 hour set with new, and great songs... not everything he plays can be a hit- some of it has to be filler: it's the peoples fault if shit gets popular--

I'd worry less about playing new tracks and stick to just playing good ones even if they are a few weeks old

lol, yeah, good idea: a good way to improve the scene is just play the same set every week

yeah, you are much better off to play shit horrible tracks just because they are brand new. i lost all respect for armin when he played anthem several times on his show

who do you respect if that's all it takes to lose it? i've seen PVD play it out... who cares? the truth is, anthem is a song i don't like (as are many songs on the list), but some some people clearly like them: at the end of the day armin gets booked to please a crowd (as all djs do). it's not like every song he plays is shit, so i think he can be let off for playing 1 or 2 crowd-pleasers;
plus, he's playing to a large audience thru asot, this list is voted for: you can't argue with taste.

concur.

i quite enjoyed it to be honest, i listen to ASOT once every 5-10 shows.

I do tend to find he does tend to do alot of songs repetitively when they first come out, and by that stage, a few new releases are being replayed :P

I would have to agree with Pkc and Chubbs. Tho I not sure I would put state it in the way pkc did :-)

A couple of things.
- For anyone here who is against Armin so much, can you explain why specifically? Just interested to see why.
- I see ASOT as a means of pushing out the new sounds, new artists (eg Mike Nichol and other Aussie's who's names escape me), that fits into Armin's style/taste and his audience which he has built through his own hard work and career passion. Sure he doesnt play all of the tunes or genre's, probably just what gets sent to him that fits the 'his bill' so to speak. But it gives some people a shot, an open door, most of the time thats all you need! Sure mad tunes will get knocked back to be huge somewhere else? Thats the nature of the business isnt it? ASOT is not the be all to end all of which all trance music is judged, there is so much quality trance out there that Armin wouldnt go near because it doesnt suit his sound/show. His audiences get to listen to new music on his show regularly. They listen, like/love it, buy it, mix it, vote for it, and armin plays the tunes people vote for on both radio shows, compilations, DJ sets. Keeps the crowds and fans happy, he can't go wrong really, simple business sense isnt it, make a product/products that is in demand. Are we honestly saying we want to spend all of our life, days, nights and hardwork, producing and playing music without making ANY income from it. Subsequently living from the gutter? I am sure we would all like to say that we would do it all for free because of the love of the music, but something has to put bread on your table and tunes in your decks. Armin is a musical businessman just like everyone else in the music scene whether it be dance or pop/classical/whatever. Good on them for making money and fans doing what they love. Wish I could!
- Also need to remember its human nature, things change as we grow older. 'We play with things and we get bored'. Our tastes change. Not just with music but with anything. Are we all still playing with stuffed toys, He-mans and lego? Are we wearing the same clothes like 10yrs ago? I used to listen to death metal, rap/hip hop, then moved to techno, hard house, hard trance then flip sided to uplifting, Prog. Hell I like just about any style if it sounds good, even Coldplay. Although I wont listen to Scot project, ASYS or Hennes and Cold sets anymore, doesnt mean they are crap, its just not my cup of tea, people still love it. I guess maybe I've learnt that if you get a little too one eyed you may end up eating your words. Same thing has happened to Armin, he has played his 12hr marathon sets in small clubs with stuff all people, produced some tunes, got some big gigs. Whats next, a radio show maybe. I am bored, whats nexts? Artist albums, concerts with live acts (eg. Armin Only - The Next Level). Whats next? Who knows. Everyone is different, human nature that we will be looking for something different in some way.
- I would say that personally I dont love all of the tunes in the top20. Some are great, others dont really do it for me. But they are not crap by any means. Bucketloads of people voted for them, so how can they be crap? Or is the whole thing rigged? I would hope not. Who knows, who cares? We still enjoy the tunes dont we? If you dont like, dont listen. Simple.
- Must also keep in mind that majority of the votes for ASOT would come from Europe (I think). Where the dance/trance scene over there is COMPLETELY different to here and subsequently has a huge impact on any votes (whether it be Djmag or ASOT, whatever). I cant emphasize COMPLETELY enough. I travelled parts of Europe in 2006. Amsterdam (sensation white), Ibiza, Italy, London, Greek Islands. Unfortunately this style of trance in Melbourne is basically toast (most would agree?). Over there it is the other way round. Someone like Guiseppe or Baker could fill a stadium with thousands of people. Where we had a small club with a few hundred at the most.

Anyways. I have waffled far too much now so I will shut up.
