Gettin pwned by the space cakes and gettin lost was a adventure on its own. We got lost for 2hrs walking in circles. lol

Most of the pictures that we took has some kind of interesting side story behind it.

Actually i loved lisa bristow's itinerary when she did Amsterdam a few months back...looking at their albums, i just marvel at all the things they did!! They took the tram all over Amsterdam, did all the museums, parks etc., walked every neighborhood, and then trained it to parts of Holland! i kinda wanted to do that cuz im always intrigued about learning the history/culture behind a country...like Volendam and Edam for their quaint lil houses/towns and cheesemaking and traditional garb if ur into that sort of thing, I really wanted to hit up Rotterdam for the modern architecture within the city (im def a city/landscape and architectural photography enthusiast), and Utretcht -- well besides that being the site where TE is regularly held, well its an university town in itself and supposedly has its own unique structure of canals etc. And ack to have had the TIME to do a self BIKE tour in any of those lil regions omg well maybe next time -- itll probably be better too as we will be much more fit to ride by then, my endurance still needs improvement.

btw have you gotten a camera of ur own yet? i know u were saying u might get one

im so excited for u guys...theres nothing like the FIRST time travelling and discovering a region.

The shopping is ridiculous in A-Dam. I remember seeing like 300 pair of shoes I wanted and none of them ever made it to the US. Def didn't have enough money for shopping but next time I go I'll be sure to set some aside. Also make sure you hit up the red light district for the sex shows and hookers.

Posted by sheila-neil on Dec-21-2007 17:59:

^^ Kelly, If you like art I highly recommend the Rijks Museum for the Vermeers alone. Once you've gone all "Girl with a Pearl Earring" then check out the VanGough Museum. Once you've gone all "Dude with no ear" then check out the amazing weekly fleamarket. You'll find some amazing stuff. Time Out makes a really good Amsterdam guide. For all of those non-coffee shop moments, but be sure to have plenty of those!

omg TELL me about it...it took awhile for us to navigate and walk thru those districts we thought it would never end!!! from small boutiques on the sidestreets to the dept stores like H&M on the main streets. and each shopping area/neighborhood definitely had its own vibe too. Not to mention the flea markets here and there, and the floating flower market (ive never seen so many types of tulips all in one place!).

No matter what tiny little room I was staying in...I always bought a killer bunch of flowers for it!!

If your adventurous enough, make sure you hit up a herring stand for a herring sammich since it is the only thing that is prolly original in amsterdam

lol c'mon, this is me you are talking to.....this red light is a given hehe

sheila: we are def hitting up van gough thanks for the other tips I <3 fle markets, we are def going there!

Lyssa: haha I would love to do what cale and lisa did, but they were there for a couple months lol ahhhh I wish I had the time and money!! I only get 6 weeks off from work a year, so I wouldnt be able to do that even if I never took a sick day OR a holiday!! lol Anyways, I MAY be getting a camera for x-mas. My parents have essentially let me know that they are buying me one or getting me a big gift certificate to like...say...best buy or whatever, because they know thats what I want. I wont be getting anything big like yours, but I will be getting a more than decent camera at some point I cant wait!!

For the million times I feel I have gone to Amsterdam, I have always found something new to do each time.

Dance Valley is July 12th this year Kel. I just got an email the other day about it and I know you will be hitting that

Other ideas:

- Van Gogh Museum
- Heineken Experience
- Canal Tour
- Panama Nightclub (it really is a great venue)
- Nemo (this is their science & technology centre, but on the rooftop there is a bar that you can just lounge on and see the city view.. you can access this without going to Nemo if you walk behind it )
- Cineac (yes, Tiesto's restaurant.. it was amazing service and excellent food. worth every penny)
- RLD (is obviously a given .. anything you can imagine there)
- Amsterdam Ajax if you are a soccer fan at all. (I got to see them while I was there in 2006)
- Absinthe Bar (the good shots are expensive, but it was my nightly stop for a week.)
- Dampkring (coffee shop, you can purchase their menu to bring home if you want something for keepsake)
- Leidseplein (it is gonna be most expensive here, but lots to see)
- Artis Zoo
- Vondelpark (absolutely beautiful to chill in especially after the shrooms.. lol)
- SHOPPING!!!! Nieuwedijk-Kalverstraat is about 1km of just shops on the street. There is also Damrak. Those are just 2 streets right in the city ring.
- Utrecht (its about 30 min train ride, but the city is great)

Depending on how long you will be there, I have visited many other cities while I have been there and it was awesome. The tourist stuff is going to be expensive, but definitely worth seeing. Also you can always just ride on the Trams and see where they take you. It is impossible to get lost while on them, you just need to always make your way back to CS and it is a great way to see different parts of the city if the weather happens to be blah.

I don't think I will be making it over this summer (will be the first time in 4 years ) so I will have to live through you Kelly. You had better make your trip a good one.

Posted by phoenixBEBE on Dec-22-2007 19:21:

actaully when we went, it was SinterKlaas so that was interesting to learn about...Also, Digweed had been playing at the Panama the Friday we were there (and the pics of the venue looked great) along with some other event that Cor Finjeman/Phynn was throwing down at somewhere in Holland. gave it serious consideration but ultimately decided not to. We ended up walking thru almost every major neighborhood around the City Centre for hours on end and def learned the areas. By trips end we had figured out several ways of getting back to CS/The Dam from various areas haha.

our daily agendas were based upon various walking tour recommendations and points of interest that I had printed off the internet prior to our trip; we followed them very loosely as we would deviate a lot when we spotted something interesting so we def had VERY full days altho we ended up with aching feet and got very tired at days end. we barely took out our map out as we didnt want to appear TOO touristy (we barely saw anyone with cameras since it was off-season) -- altho carrying a big camera around definitely did not help in that regard, lol.

This trip was definitely worthwhile Would definitely stop by NL as part of a multi-country hop via EURail and check out some of the outer regions we missed this time around.

Wow, I just finally had a chance to look through the pics. What awesome photos, you guys are both getting really good at photography. All the time you've put into learning about it has certainly paid off. Beautiful photos Looks like you guys had a great trip (haha trip ) I'd love to go to Amsterdam one day

just wondering if that date for dance valley is completely correct..it seems strange that dance valley and sensation white/black would be so close together....since sensation white is usually always the first sat of july...i thought dance valley was always an august event...i could be wrong though

Posted by gimmebeatz on Dec-23-2007 04:11:

guess dance valley is in july...just checked last yrs website and it was july 14th..might have to make a week out of this trip and do both sensation and dance valley

yes, it is correct. And yes DV used to be an August event, but for the last couple years I have gone it has been in July. Usually the weekend right after Sensation and now the weekend before Extrema.

Re: Our Trip to Amsterdam

Great pics! Wish I could've swung by Amsterdam last month after Brussels before I ran out of money lol .. and time. Looking through all the pics I may have to modify my summer trip to include more time in Amsterdam. The food looks kinda good compared to what I had to choose from in Germany.. not that their food wasn't good. Just didn't look all that great.

^^^ What's this?? Looks like pizza but what's the topping? .. Hmm, I should go get some breakfast lol

this is a **MeatLovers** Pizza from a 24/7 local/non-franchise pizza place near the hotel that we ordered at 130am one night cuz we were hungry (it only took us TWO hours for the delivery guy to get to the hotel. But it was raining really hard at the time so we didn't mind).

Pizza was warm when we got it, not even CUT into slices -- it was about 15 inches i think. (we stared at it incredulously for a minute or two before searching for utensils in the room. We had none whatsoever. So Drew had to MACGUYVER it using a bottle opener that they had in the room). The toppings were basically something called paraham (it looked and tasted like prosciutto), salami, pepperoni -- which were all SALTY as hell -- a smidgen of marinara and we could NOT find any sign of mozarella ANYWHERE!! it was basically, "would you like some cheese with your MEAT topped "pizza"?" (i was LOOKING forward to the mozzarella too!!!) LOL we were hungry so we ate it but omg soo salty i almost couldn't TAKE it. When we met up with my friend Friday night, she told us, oh some of the pizzareras here do not use mozarella cheese on their pizzas (which left us ) haha.

yeah the train station next to us (RAI Station) had machines selling tickets to Brussels and Berlin. Didn't look at the prices, but it def made ME go hmmm...

yes Amsterdam is DEF worth a few days for sure, its definitely a walking city with sights that will reward you...after awhile all the streets/canals look all the same, so u might want to consider doing a canal tour, besides allowing us to see the whole city from a different point of view, it also helped us to pinpoint specific places of interest that we later tried to find via walking.

Foodwise they've got all kinds. "REAL" Dutch food is actually this series of small Indonesian tapas they serve at various restaurants (we didnt get to try it). Other than that its herring either eaten fresh or fresh on a roll with pickles -- which we didnt get up the nerve to try, and basically anything you can find here. We were on a budget so we only ate out twice...The shopping districts and town squares are soo bustling and vivacious at all times, it was awesome

Jenners I love you more and more everyday!!! I def wanan check out nemo lol mere will unerstand why.........

Thanks soo much for the DV date!!! I have been waiting for the dates to come out.... Time to start booking!!

We want to go to Extrema as well, so if/when thats confirmed for the next weekend (hopefully) we will book our flights. We are looking to go for 11 days (thursday til the following sunday).

Not really interested in Sensation as much because
a. it seems a bit like Bal en Blanc (can do that here) and
b. I heard last year was pretty "meh".

I went to Amsterdam a few years back and had a great time. I did, however, spend the better part of an entire day by myself in a hostel bathroom while shrooming for the first time.

ah, good times.

I'm trying to picture this.. did you have the long hair back then?
