Errr....nope

If you're looking for a good fantasy novel, I can highly recommend 'The Wizard's First Rule.'

He ended up making it an 11 book series, all but one of which I own.

You should look him up. Terry Goodkind is actually a pretty decent author... he can become a little preachy sometimes, but I think you would appreciate it.

Do you own "Debt of Bones". Not a lot of people have that one.

Yeah, Zedd's early story, before the boundaries went up.

Not really part of the series exactly, but interesting for the background I thought.

i like nerding it up.

Now why doesn't this surprise me from a 'man' who claims to like 'mayonnaise.'

Having Jamaica as a first-name = win.

This thread reminds me that while I try to keep myself relatively informed and consider myself to have a good amount of general knowledge, I never got into reading books after since I was 15 or so. Articles, magazines, all sorts of shit online, yes, just not taking a book and reading it. Maybe I could be less dumb by doing so.

Having the CORe picking a book for me to read seems like the ideal start.

my vote goes for Speaker For the Dead

though its a sequel so its a tough one to push

Another suggestion, this one much shorter (roughly 140 pages):

The author was only 21, and as far as I know the book was the product of his senior Creative Writing project while at Harvard. His advisor was Jamaica Kincaid, and it was listed as one of Salman Rushdie's favorite books. The book itself is a narrative from the perspective of a child soldier, so it ought to foster some strong reactions.

This sounds like a good choice to me. Seems like it would generate lots of discussion.

I'm cool with it.

I'll pick it up tomorrow!

Posted by Silky Johnson on Dec-30-2007 00:32:

Oh, and if that's the book we choose, be sure to edit the first post.
