Complete Domination isn't even strong enough to describe how badly out matched Hughes was.

I can't wait for the fight in February.....Frank Mir vs. Brock Lesner...poor Frank will never be the same after that match.

Posted by Inertia on Jan-01-2008 01:00:

Frank Mir has never been the same since his motorcycle accident... but still, what makes you think Lesnar is good enough to beat him? i'd expect Mir to be training his heart out for this one.

Mir has beaten Tank Abbot, Tim Sylvia (26-3), among other great fighters, and is 10-3.

Lesnar's a wrestler. not the way Couture is a wrestler, but the lay-n-pray style. he has been training, but he didn't show much skill in his last fight. it was just a smother and pound approach. he's cocky. i wouldn't be surprised to see Mir pwn him. actually, that's what SHOULD happen. Lesnar beat up Min Soo Kim, but that is not a big deal at all. i'm pretty sure Choi Hong-Man, which was scheduled to be his original opponent would have given him a hard ass time.

fuck, i haven't seen any of the fights.

Machida is a mystery man, i mean, he's still undefeated, and he's gone through some very big names, like BJ Penn for instance.

BJ Penn is also around 155 lbs, with Machida at 205.

quote:
i demand a Machida vs. KARO PARISYAN, give judo players in MMA some hope!

Not as big a difference in weight as Penn/Machida, but still a huge weight class difference.

And Karo Parisyan can F off:

quote:
I dont want to wait for that long, so Ill get a fight in between for a more guaranteed win. Jon Fitch? I still think I can beat Jon Fitch. I think I have more tools to beat Jon Fitch. I have tremendous respect for him, but I still think I can beat him but I need an easier fight than Jon Fitch so I can basically have a high percentage of beating (the opponent) and getting a title shot.

i'm aware of the weight differences, i'm just mouthing off.

and well, that does change my opinion of Karo a bit...

I'm guessing Liddell and Machida will fight for #1 contendership on the winner of Rampage/Griffin?

The thing that "wowed" me the most about the Liddell/Silva match was the beating that Silva took but just kept coming back. He took some punches that would take most people's heads off and he just kept fighting. I was pissed as hell at the ending though. It was 2 1/2 great rounds, then a round of Chuck watching the clock and avoiding Silva because he knew he'd get the decision. Oh well, you know that Wanderlei will fight again, and I'd love to see 5 rounds with someone (for a title). I still can't believe the hits Silva took.

(I was also hoping Silva would break out the glow sticks when he got to the octagon and they started playing Darude for the second time. )

ok i hate to say it but im convinced the pride guys were on juice or somthing. look at how RIPPED wandi was back in pride. look at his physique when he fought cro cop or jackson or hunt for instance and dont tell me thats the same guy that fought chuck. look at shogun too, i was really surprised at how much he had toned down from pride.

either that or the fix was in cz wandi just didnt even look like the same old crazy ass attacking machine that everyones come to know from pride. dana knows that he'll make a killing off a rematch thats whay he had to give it to chuck

Posted by Inertia on Jan-01-2008 14:38:

oh... yeah. steroids were of legal use in Pride FC. it's the big turning point for us old Pride fans, a lot of us are coming to think perhaps the fighters weren't really that much better, rather the steroids were playing a big role.

on another note, doesn't Hendo get another crack at the belt(s)? shouldn't Chuck have to fight him first?

well wandy beefed up to 215 - 220 for the crocop fight, so yea he looked huge. also he was tentative for that fight, and the dan henderson fight. and i think he is just being a more cautious fighter as he gets more experience. he should have tried to get inside on chuck more and then work a take down, or take advantage of chuck's 'i can't knock him out so Ill take em down to secure a decision' take down

he still has hope, Im waiting for shogun to come back and whoop ass though.

I have nothing wrong with people not liking MMA, but I gotta ask; if watching two guys punch, kick, choke and bloody each other up doesn't excite you, what does?

Speaking of Wanderlei...I thought he looked nervous. You could tell it in his body language before the fight begun. Once things got started, I expected him to settle down, which he did, but his offense was just about non-existent. He's relatively young though (especially when compared to Chuck, I didn't realize there was such an age gap) and I think his next UFC fight will be much better for him. I'm not saying PRIDE is small time, but I do think some people seem to have "octagon shock" during their first UFC fight. He took some big shots before he got comfortable in the ring and I think that was his undoing; he was hurt before he really got into the fight.

i agree, same happened to rampage, but he was able to finish off his guy after the first round. Wandy looked more comfortable after a round, but couldn't finish chuck off. I still think he should have pounced after that second knock down...or slip, whichever.

Yeah, that was weird. The only thing I could think of was that Silva realized Chuck slipped and was being a "gentleman" and let Liddell back up. Kind of stupid though, I thought...it wasn't the first time someone had slipped on one of those damn advertisement decals and that's just part of the game.
