-- For Those That Party In D.C. Your Thoughts On The 2008 Club Scene(Fur vs Glow)
Pages (2): « 1 [2]
Thanks for the heads-up on Fur. I saw that James Zabiela was coming there at the end of February (it's listed on his site, but for some reason not on Fur's... is this still going on?) and considered going but I was hesitant due to how they were when Glow was there. I'll definitely give it a shot though if they've changed.
Another one that impressed me for smaller clubs is Lima on fridays. Kreamdip has a residency there and spins deep house sets that are quite good. Not to mention the staff there are quite the opposite of the "iron-fist" Glow @ Fur days, and the crowd seems pretty decent too. Well, just my 2 cents.
ok lil confusion. fur is the club. buzz is at fur on fridays. global is at fur on saturdays. buzz as many know brings many different genre of edm, mostly house, tribal, etc. zabiela AND deadmous is there on february, so is robbie rivera, sanchesz & laidback luke, donald glaude, etc. on saturdays is almost all progressive & trance. so that's the difference. lima is cool too but that's a restoraunt converted to a club afterhours, small.

Yea I didn't make it to that shampoo event. I think there was something else going on in NY. I remember planning on going but I didn't. Anyways, you can see my picture in the sidebar...i'm actually gonna change it cuz that pic makes me look weird. But if you notice me, grab my attention! I'll probably be all alone
lol.

hahahhahahahahahahah, u guys just can't back down on another, hahahahaha, way to go advertising discreetly
yea i'm amused. ahah
in all truth we r both good friends
Oi! I think the DC scene is skim enough as it is and FUR's obvious strike back at Glow by directly competing with the same crowd is simply going to hurt both of them and is just fucking childish!!

What is childish about bringing a the Progressive/Trance genre back to DC ??

i have love for house, too. but nothing moves me like trance. i can't connect to any other music on that level. or anything at all for that matter. it's a whole other state of consciousness, it really is.

Armin van Buuren (All night set) --- Thursday 03/27/08 --- Glow/Ibiza (DC)
Oh and we just had Steve Smooth & JJ Flores, and John O' Callaghan this weekend!
We didn't do too shabby this last year either.
Since I moved to DC in Sept. (6 months ago) I have seen Gabriel & Dresden, Tiesto, Moby & Sander van Doorn, Benni Benassi, Deepsky & Jes, Scumfrog, Sander Kleinenberg, Paul van Dyk, Carl Cox, Lee Burrige, Kyau & Albert, Armin van Buuren, DJ Dan, Oakenfold Sanda Collins and Kenneth Thomas, Steve Porter & Luke Fair, Kristina Sky, and Jennifer Rene in the fall and winter of '07.
All that and I still missed MSTRKRFT, Sharam & Dubfire on seperate occasions, M.A.N.D.Y., Blank & Jones, Eric Prydz, Infected Mushroom, Victor Calderone, Starkillers, Serge Devant, Martin Roth, Gareth Emery, Andy Moor, Thrillseekers, Matt Dearey & Jan Johnson, Ferry Corsten, George Acosta, Dirty South, Eddie Halwell, Cedric Garvais, and The Crystal Method. And that was all in DC, not NYC, LA, or Miami, this city is getting back in action!
luckily i'm kind of between nyc and dc so either one is a viable option.

| Originally posted by DCgirly I don't get it. Why can't there be more than 1 EDM club in DC??? It's very positive for the city. |
my opinion is that fur will have to weather about a six month "new clubbing experience" that the new glow has(all new clubs have that ability even if they are bad), all the while constantly putting out fliers, hitting the club boards and all around promoting.
after that people(particuarly non clubbers)will then start to look at other clubs and places to party which reopens the door for fur.
now currently fur is doing two things right...they are not shying away from bringing in great djs and they are remodeling the main dance floor and other areas, which always gives you the ability to have a "grand reopening"event with a well known dj.
so the cards in in the right place so far.and fur isnt competing with glow because glow walked away from the trance scene on saturdays a looong time ago(other then the big names)so there is more then enough room for two clubs in dc.its all up to the people to decide if they want it that way or not.
I have no problem with the dj's that FUR is bringing in.. I actually like the lineup. It is just obvious that the lineup came after glow left as a retaliation against glow.... there are more factors to prove my thoughts but I'm sure everyone knows that already and I simply think its childish...of course those of you who are bitching at me obviously work for or are helping to promote FUR so fuck off.. I've been around a lot longer than you and have watched the growing pains of a lot of clubs... I'm not dissing the talent of FUR's lineup, just pointing out the obvious childish behavior thats been going around DC

It's all good...
Caroline brought this topic to my attention (her and other interns post under this name sometimes). So everyone knows I am perfectly cool with whatever Fur (and any other promoter/venue for the matter) wants to do. It's business. All I can do is try my best and worry about what WE do. It's a free country and everyone can throw parties/book djs. In fact, we sponsor the U.S. Work Visa for a lot of the talent that Fur brings (Andy Moor, Thrillseekers, almost all the Armada, Flashover and Blackhole guys and most of the DJs represented by Connected DJs). Make no mistake, if I felt that it was a threat having them play at Fur I would have let their management know. But, I think it is great that these guys are playing in DC. There are sooo many DJs but sooo few Saturdays for Glow to bring all of them. Diego and Amit at Fur are my boys!
Keep booking my guys ;-)
