-- What do you think of the minimal trend?
Pages (4): « 1 [2] 3 4 »
I cant make up my mind on minimal, some techno (minimal) sets are good and some bore the shit out of me...
One set that i absolutly love is florian_meindl@becool_BARCELONA_nov2007
Some if it may not be minimal but the minmal parts are amazing.
House / Prog sets that have minimal elements in them.... Im sort of ok with it but id rather not... but I mean I can live with it.
I'm loving the minimal elements that many house and progressive producers are including in their tunes. Minimal may, to some, seem very boring and uninspired but IMHO it's quite difficult to create a melody that is very simple yet very catchy. Later on this year when I start in on my own creative processes I plan to experiment with minimalist sounds.

I don't go to many events so whoever thinks i'm wrong can correct me. Most events (90%) are house in toronto with occasional trance, dnb, techno, psy event. So far i've heard only a few sets with majority of minimal, audiofly, richie hawtin, nathan barato occasionally, manzone and strong occasionally, johnny white, kenny glasgow, lee burridge (sometimes) a few more.. |
I've always thought minimal is sexy, as long as its not too much of a good thing like everyone jumps on the bandwagon and we have no variety. Each Dj brings their own unique sound and style to the table witch makes the scene so diverse and interesting so I hope not everyone follows this trend or were going to be very bored.

The Minimal trend is garbage, plain and simple. I like to dance when I go to a club, not sleep!!!

| Originally posted by Jem_hadar agreed. but i still think minimal sounds way sicker in the zone's environment than house. |

Much has been said about minimal.

| Originally posted by Jeff Button I enjoy productions with minimal qualities, not so much 'pure' minimal per say. But with any genre, I need variety. DJ's that stick to hammering out one specific sound bore me to death.... but a sprinkle of minimal in a set I thoroughly enjoy. |

I'm definitely not feeling the tech-house/minimal beats that seem to dominate a lot of main-stay DJs sets in toronto these days... Nathan Barato, Carlo Lio, VJs, are all (from what I've heard) characterizing their sets with this new influx of minimal tech-house influence. Admittedly, it sounds really good and I enjoy it...but it's just not what I drive to Toronto to dance to. Doesn't get me going like tribal or even (yikes) electro.
And agreed, zone is blessed with low ceilings, and good surprisingly acoustics that just ramp up any tune played down there. All done on a shoe-string budget of audio equipment too, I'm told.
Personally, I can't wait for the minimal-influence fad to end... but that's the way these trends work themselves out.

i agree that minimal owns cz.. as does the the dark techy sound overall. i heard chromophobia and doppelwhipper my first time there in the summer and was amazed
and i think a lot of people don't realize that pretty much all local dj's put at LEAST a couple tracks that could be labelled minimal into their sets these days, they just think it's house
